How do you do Easter?

tenaciousd

With your kids/family?

Answer
I make my kids Easter baskets with candy and toys and leave it outside their bedrooms. My husband hides jelly beans all over the house for the kids to find. Then, everyone comes over for a big Easter dinner, with ham, deviled Easter eggs, hot cross buns with lemon curd, salad, angel food cake, and chocolate bunny truffles for dessert. I give all my guests some nice candy to take home.

Why do people buy kids toys on easter? I understand Christmas and birthdays, but not Easter toys?

Q. I used to get an Easter basket with toys and candy when I was little also. I just don't understand the significance.

Answer
Technically for Christmas and Easter you arent meant to get gifts, but everyone likes giving them and receiving them, so why not? plus people who dont care about the actual holidays historical meaning just use it as an excuse to buy things

Im asking to see if other parents get there kids a few toys for Easter also I already went Easter shopping I went tonight I got tons of candy, books, and and 3 toys a piece for my 3 kids.

Answer
This year we are not giving any gifts to each other instead our food ministry group is doing a sit down dinner for about 60 less fortunate people. We have Easter baskets for all there kids and we are going to be the ones waiting tables. We want to teach our children that its not always about getting stuff. Sometimes it needs to be about giving to. It seems like every holiday is becoming more and more about getting things for ourselves. Wish we could do more but if everyone does a little bit we can all make a difference.

Knowing that my son will be getting a kings ransom in candy from his grandparents and 12 aunts and uncles I only got him one small chocolate lamb (mainly because it was was so cute) and am filling the plastic eeaster eggs with raisens goldfish crackers and pretzals. What are you putting in the easter eggs? Coins? Toys? Candy? My son is only two a bit young for coins.

Answer
A few pretty pastel Jordan almonds and candy-coated sunflower seeds (we have a peanut-allergic kid). They're not getting much candy, just a token amount, because they always end up with too much.

I don't want to give them a ton of candy, and those little easter themed toys are such junk, what do you suggest?

Answer
Every year I get my kids a few small treats, and trinkets, but then give them something they can play with outside. This year I got them roller skates, Easter comes early this year but spring will be here soon.

As a new parent i need some idea's ^^
Their four years old and i already got a bag full of little toys for the dollar store and plan to get candy.Share you idea's?

Answer
When my kids were small, we skipped the baskets entirely, placing candies and the like in outside "container type" toys. You know, a plastic wheelbarrow lined with with Easter grass, some candy, and outdoor items such as a ball, sidewalk chalk, a jump rope, yoyo, etc...

Some years I used new sandbox buckets and filled them with sandbox toys.... Anything outdoorsy after a long winter spent inside was always a hit.

And yes, for the naysayers I do know that Easter is not Christmas... However, I was a single mom with three boys and an extremely tight budget. There was no money for just buying outside toys as they were needed... That just wasn't happening, so I used the money I might otherwise spend on a bunch of candy to buy them toys that would get them outside and moving....

So far as candy went, I'd buy bags of Reese eggs, jelly beans and the like, and then I would divide it between all the "baskets." Everyone got one special chocolate bunny.

Your kids are still little, they'll appreciate almost anything...

A very Happy Easter to you and yours. :)

I have an 11 month old son and I'm just curious about what other parents get their kids for Easter. I was thinking a bucket and shovel and some cheap toys for outside.
He'll not even be one yet. No candy for him!
Dang we already have chicks! They are 4 weeks old though. I should have waited for Easter! That would have been fun! Haha. :)

Answer
My daughter is 16 months. I made her a basket full of some fun stuff. I just bought an oversized basket and I put pink and purple Easter grass in the bottom. I did it in a Mickey Mouse/Tigger and Pooh theme since those are her favorite characters and tv shows. I filled it with:

A new toothbrush/toothpaste
Bubbles
Bubble bath
Tadoodles first crayons by Crayola (designed for kids at the age of 1 or so)
Some of the bathtub tadoodles that you can play with in the tub
A ball that is Easter themed that I found at the grocery store..lol
A Coloring book (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, her favorite)
A Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Dvd
A stuffed bunny
Mickey's Easter egg hunt book
Some Super Sleuth and Mickey Mouse Books
A Frisbee (she can't really play with it, but it had Mickey Mouse on it so I bought it)
A couple pieces of candy
Animal Crackers
A new sippy cup
Some Panties (she is starting to get interested in using the potty and they had Minnie Mouse on them..lol)

Really you can fill it with anything that your son interested in. I just concentrated on the things that I new my daughter loves, so I know she will enjoy it. I didn't spend a lot of money either..probably around 40$, the most I spent money on was the Crayola stuff, each being around 5-8$. Most of the rest came from the dollar store/grocery store. We bought her a water table also, which is the sand and water activity table combined.
