So.....what did you learn from that?

Glinda

I learned never ever ever to co-join money with anyone unless I am married.

I learned that certain people will always be so, so, sorry they did it and they promise never to do it again. They almost always do it again. *sigh*

You?

Answer
I learned that when you're a kid and ask your parents to buy you a toy at the store, and they say," well, we'll see about it" that it means you ain't getting that toy.
I learned that sometimes at the dollar store, things cost more than a dollar.
I learned that you don't always get a second chance if you make a mistake driving a motorcycle.

where can I find a little kids learning toy that has buckles, zippers, snaps, buttons or something similar?

Ann Marie

Answer
Mothercare sells an elephant that has various fasteners on it.. laces on one shoe.. that cannot come out.. other shoe has a button.. velcro on the pockets of its jacket and a zipper on the jacket . the jacket is stitched on and cannot be removed...... Boots sell safari sam who is a soft bodied doll with many clothes with all the zips and buttons. Try looking in toysrus and Early learning centre too. I remeber my daughter had the elephant and safari sam. they really did help her a lot with her motor skills.

Trying to find an inexpensive way with a device to communicate with my sister while she is on a ventilator. She trys to write but hard to read what she is writing. She is still medicated too. But I was thinking of something like a touch an tell kids learning toy that showed the alphabet and she could touch the letter to spell what she is trying to say. any inexpensive advice would help on a electronic item if you have any ideas. thanks

Answer
Do you have a laptop computer? Maybe just typing in a Word document would work. Sorry I can't be more helpful, maybe some doctors or specialists will have experience with this? Best of luck x

What are some of the best learning toys for a 18 month old?

jay

Needing ideas for my baby girls Christmas presents :) we don't do many gifts since it's not the reason for the holiday. So I'm trying to make sure I get the best learning toys and something she will actually use :)

Answer
Picture Books (I suggest ones that are made with pretty durable material). As far as the content in the books. Numbers,ABC's,colors, shapes, starter learning books like that.

Building blocks or large legos

musical Instruments are nice. My kids always had fun with those. I used to buy these at Toys R Us. Usually you can find a few at a reasonable price but I mainly like them there because they are really durable. I mean my kids would toss them across the room and they'd still work! lol

Im just curious about when you kids learned to pick up after themselves. Ive tried teaching my 14 month old to put her toys away, but she's not quite getting it. If I put something in the box she just runs over and pulls it out again.
When do you think she'll grasp the concept of tidying up?
Did you do anything different to get your child interested..like a game or a song or something?

Thanks!

Answer
Getting my 5 year old to clean up after herself is like pulling teeth. But my 20 month old will put stuff away when i ask her. i think it has a lot to do with personalities. But a great song is the Clean up song.
Clean up, Clean up
Everybody everywhere
Clean up Clean up
Everybody do your share
started singing that with my first when she was 18 months, and she still sings it sometimes. now my second is started to hum a little with it.

I'm writing a paper on encouraging education on the subject to begin at an early age, through toys, etc both home and in the classroom and was wondering when most kids begin learning even the fundamentals of climate change at school? Is it different in the US than in other countries? Is there already a movement towards encouraging this? Any information would be helpful, thanks.

Answer
I think that's a disgusting idea ,instead kids should be taught solid science, basic physics, chemistry and biology, not unproven heavily politicised ,one sided propaganda.Schools should free minds, not close and brainwash them.

How many toys does your toddler have? Or how much of your house does your baby occupy?

Jenny

I'm wondering how many toys other people give their toddlers. You can estimate.
Each stuffed animal counts as one toy.
A fisher price barn with all the animals I would count as one.
Each hotwheels is one toy.

You can figure your own system. I'm wondering if we're nuts or if most people have this many toys. We have a pretty big house and we've turned the dining room into a play room for books, letters and numbers with some stuffed animals and cars. It's also where my piano is and we have a sofa where I play guitar. The entry area has his play village with his play houses and tunnels. The village spills over into my office but it makes a nice door and he doesn't go past that line.

The kitchen, living and breakfast area are relatively toy free. Maybe a toy or two that he's playing with and his rocking horse stays in the living room.

Upstairs, his room is another play room which is nice in winter as it is much colder downstairs. We have more books, letter and learning toys, oodles of stuffed animals, Fisher Price garage and Farm and a variety of other toys.

Just curious to see the toy situation in your home. My mom says she's never seen a child with more toys.

Answer
My 2 year old doesn't have a lot, but she has enough.
Our house is a little different. Our main living space (3 bedrooms, 2 bath, kitchen/living/dining) is only 900 square feet all together - high ceilings in our A-frame make it feel bigger, though. We've got a basement that adds another 900ish square feet, but we only really use that when it's warm. it's only heat is a wood stove. So we don't have a lot of room for lots of toys.
In the kitchen area, I've got a cooking stand with a shelf that has 2 tubs of art supplies/playdoh, which she shares with her 5 year old brother
In the living room, she's got a large dollhouse (we fixed up my old one, for her, for Christmas) and in a corner I have a medium sized bookcase (3 ft x 5 ft) of puzzles, games and toys, 2 kid recliners with a little end table that has a few books. there's also a basket of books by the couch (not that anyone usually notices) We also have a large rubbermaid of blocks. Not necessarily fancy, expensive blocks - some were melissa and doug, but the vast majority are old decking cut up that a neighbor brought over. They love those the most.
In her room, which is pretty small, she's got a laundry basket of stuffed animals and dolls. She has a small play kitchen and a little bin of play food/dishes. She's got a small bookshelf with her books and a few random toys. She's got a few dress up clothes in there as well. And that's about it for her. We don't have oodles of anything.

What are some appropriate toys for a 3 year old?

fmmerritt

Well hell be 3 jan 31st.I need help figuring out what to get my son for christmas..No learning toys..I already know what im getting when it comes to that..I am at a loss as to what to get him this year..Any suggestions..What does everyone's 3 yr old's play with? Thanks in advance..
He has a ton of play-doh and crafts stuff.Im looking for just toys right now.

Answer
If you haven't already, introduce him to T-Ball. Buy him a t-ball set with bases, ball and bat, the works. Boys love that. Then help him to learn to play and enroll him in the sport when he's a little older. Also a v-smile could work. Kids love video games, and they're made for children. You can buy diego games, spider-man, etc. Also things like, power wheels, roller blades, other sports things, etc. Hope this helps... Good luck!

Is there a free version of Turbo Tax? What are some things we can claim that aren't obvious?

I did our taxes last year with the free version of H&R block. It was okay, but I heard of ALL these things you can claim that they didn't give me the option of claiming with the H&R block one. I want to use Turbo Tax. Has anyone used that, the free version? Is it any good? We have 3 kids- is it really possible to claim learning toys we buy for them?

Answer
We use Tax Act. It's taxact.com. They found us a TON of deductions we didn't know we could take. They just ask very detailed questions about your life and money. Make sure you have a receipt for everything you're going to deduct, though!!!

What is the difference in the reading toys for kids?

Kckckc

I am thinking about getting some reading/learning toys for my 2 yr old daughter and my 7 yr old son. The problem is that there are so many different products I don't know which one to choose. Since my daughter is familar with scout and violet, I was looking into the read with me violet, but she already has two Junior tag books without the tag toy that is suposed to read them to her. I am not sure what the difference is between the two because they both come in violet. Any information about them would be helpful... As for my step son who is not interested in learning games I still feel I should get him something as well, so what might be best for a 7 yr old boy who cannot read and has ADHD?

Answer
Hooked on Phonics is the best! I learned how to read before I even started school, and by first grade I could read chapter books. By second grade, I won an award for reading the most books in school, I even beat the fifth grades! I read 512 books that entire school year. It's fun too! It comes with a computer game that has many different levels and it has games with reading in them. The books are really cute too! They're only a couple pages long but they've got lots of cute pictures and there are like fifty of them.
