I'm writing a book and the main character walks into her brother's room to find him playing. I'm a '90s baby, so I wouldn't know what types of toys kids played with in the '60s. I was thinking Star Wars, but I did research and it said Star Wars first aired around 1977.

Since I was a 6 YO boy in 1966, I can tell you that my favorite toys were my Tonka Trucks, especially the big fire engine, and my Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs. It was great fun to build stuff then knock it all down with the trucks.

I don't know how to describe it but they are real dinosaurs, but are really little and these kids keep them. I know it was made in the early nineties cause I remember watching it as a child.

I'm trying to write a lesson plan where I'll have kids score short clips from movies/tv shows. I'm trying to choose things that they'll identify with- either things that are popular now, or things that they will consider "classics" the way that I consider the movie Clueless or Mean Girls or the TV show Hey! Arnold classics. Any suggestions that will speak to kids ages 13-18 today would be great!

Sort of, we did play a lot of video games back then (from Super Nintendo). But it seems like more kids today are not playing outside, and prefer to play computer or video games. I rarely saw toy/sport commercials that did not require a console in the 2000s, but there were many in the 90s. Oh 90's kids did not have cellphones, and rarely used the internet. We also lived in times of peace and good economy, no cold war and no 9/11 terror alerts or war with Iraq. 2000s kids probably grew up in a conservative post 9/11 America, with declining a economy. It will probably affect their decision later in life.

No, not the spirograph one.
I remember having this toy in the early-mid '90s.
It was this thing where you would have this series of disk with lines cut into them like stencils, that in the end when you traced all the lines you would end up with a picture.
I remember there was a Casper The Friendly Ghost one.

My roommate and I are talking about this show and we absolutely cannot remember the name... kids would race through toy stores and grab as much stuff as they could before the time ran out. Also they would sometimes feature parents in grocery stores? Thanks!

I don't remember an actual show like this on Nickelodeon, but they had something similar. Could it have been a contest? They used to have a sweepstakes called Super Toy Run, where the winner would get five minutes to run through a Toys R Us and grab as much as they could, and every year they televised it. They ran commercials for it constantly. I wanted to win SO BAD. Haha :)
