Toddler toys?

What is a good thing to buy for a 21m old? I'm always looking for something that will hold her attention because she's at home all day (except when I take her to the park) and she gets bored. She already has legos, trains, a kitchen, books, the usual. I'm thinking either a play tent or a little people playset. Any ideas?

My daugher is 21 months old (and I have a 3-year-old daughter as well). My older daughter LOVED her Little People at that age and still does. My older daughter has/had a much greater attention span than my younger daughter, so she tends to play with things for longer periods and always has.

Some other things that my daughters like(d) to play at that age...

- Wooden puzzles
- Reading books
- Dancing to music
- Toy kitchen
- Musical instruments (harmonica, drum, tambourine, bells, xylophone, flutophone, etc.)
- Dolls
- Play-doh
- Crayons
- Paint with water
- Bubbles
- Helping with easy housework -- mopping floor, dusting
- Pretending to be a dog/cat/elephant/etc.
- Drawing with chalk on the sidewalk
- Chasing me or her sister around the house
- Pulling a toy for the cats to chase

I'm sure there's more, but that's what I can think of off-hand. Hope it gives you a few more ideas!

Toddler toys for Christmas?

Honestly, at that age they are more excited about opening and tearing the wrapping paper than anything else. What I did was saved things he needed anyway like new clothes, socks, pull ups, bubble bath, etc. and wrapped it. I also bought him things like art supplies, a kids apron, and good things that occupy his time. I also got kind of lucky that my sons birthday is in November, we stash away some of the toys from his birthday and re-wrap them for Christmas. I am pretty sure this is the last year we can do this. But honestly, there are very few toys out there that are truly good for a 2 year olds development.

How are you keeping your little ones away from the Christmas decorations?

I am on partial bed rest so it is hard to get up and down to keep my toddler away from pulling on the stockings and the tree decorations. I was wondering what everyone else is doing, or if you just didn't put decorations on the bottom half of the tree.

We have a gate around the tree in the living room, but it can easily be pushed over. We keep my 21 month old out of the glass and fancy decorations but allowing her to have her own. We put up a tree in her playroom and we decorated it with plastic ornaments that can't be broken or swallowed and we stacked fun Christmas themed boxes under the tree that have some of her toys like her little people or toy cell phones. THis gives her the feeling that she can enjoy playing "decorate the tree" and wrap gifts without constantly hearing "no-no". She loves to take the ornaments on and off her tree and hide toys in the boxes too.

My oldest was actually pretty well behaved and rarely ever had one. Maybe a small meltdown once a week-which I certainly wasn't complaining about ;) When my second son came along, he had a few more. He's three right now and he'll have off days sometimes and he'll throw 3 in one day,then sometimes he'll go a week without any. It just depends.

My three year old had a pretty bad one in a Target a few months back..it wasn't pretty! He got it into his head that mommy would buy him every toy he wanted, and when I didn't, he got upset. Really upset. My 5 year old was with me as well and he tried to help calm him down, but he was so fired up. He threw himself on the ground and refused to get up. I got some funny stares,but oh well ;) I finally just told him it's time to get up and go or else we wouldn't be going for ice cream later. He was still upset, but we pulled himself together and we left the store. It was pretty embarrassing, but...stuff happens-I got through it! lol

I am a single mother with a two yr old and if some were to help me out i would enjoy clothes or pull ups you know the necessity's for my baby and even maybe a little help with planning the birthday party and i don't know your financial situation but if you could maybe help with funding a nice party for the tot toys are nice to but needs come first well i hope this helps and you are very nice to help her out however these are my thoughts but maybe she would rather something else maybe just be upfront and talk to her about it let her know you could start off with you were thinking of helping a less fortunate family out this year for the holidays and see how she respond to that
