Picky about your kids' toys?

Does anyone dislike the selection at Toys R Us? I am really picky about my son's playthings! I love stuff that not everybody else has. Not only that, but toys that allow for open-ended play that engage his imagination and thought. So many toys today do too much for the child. I am always looking for people to talk to about this, so if you are someone like me, please respond and let's discuss this!

Ever seen a kid spend more time playing with a cardboard box the toy came in?

Give your kids tons of balls... big, little, bouncy, lightened, fuzzy...
Some good books...
Plenty of cardboard boxes, paper towel tubes, paints... pots, pans... stackable spoons...

Depending on your child's interests: lego, erector sets, pretend play things...

That assuming your child does not mouth everything.

Buy at garage sales and thrift shops, they are a dime a ton, and you can donate those you don't like

When your child is at the imitation age, get them old cell phones and other imitation stuff...

Get different textures and shades... toy stores don't have them... I remember myself as a 6 month old and can tell that my perception of color at that age was much deeper than it is now. Just because basic colors are instant attention grabblers (i.e. best sellers) does not make them more stimulating.

Bikes, walkers... bath toys...

I have no idea how these are called in English, if at all; we call them "Swedish Walls". They've been clinically proven to accelerate 1-year-olds' mental development, along with physical, as at this age physical and mental development is highly correlated; and they can fit even in the smallest apartment.

I do a lot. I've already ordered a couple harder-to-find toys for Christmas on ebay. I've been an ebay buyer and seller for 10+ years. . .I buy lots of kids stuff on there:-)

I saw some crazy lady buying 20 of them today...no joke 20...she had two carts full of them. Some people are crazy. I understand wanting to get your kids the "in" toy for the holidays. But I think it's nuts to fight over a doll,truck, or whatever. Every year the day after thanksgiving I go shopping and get some stuff on sale...then I watch all the idiots punching each other cause spoiled little Billy at home has to have the Elmo doll...it's nuts. I would take punch after punch for my kids...but not for a doll LOL

It really ddepends on the kid. i know that alot of my younger cousins love princess dolls! but i mean little boys might like action figures or a ds. little girls like baby dolls and dress up clothes. hope this helps!

Do you remember them? My kids were in trouble a little while ago, and I made them both stand in the corner. My son tried to go to the same corner as my daughter when she yelled at him..."Wyatt!!! Go to your own corner!! This is my corner!" It was so funny.

at a yard sale my 4 yr old daughter asked the seller " How much is your woody"?. We both burst out laughing, because she was asking about a Woody doll from "Toy Story". He gave her the doll for free.

What products sell best in your grooming shop?

We are thinking about starting a small shop in our dog grooming shop and are wondering what products are the 'hot sellers' in other people's shops. We would definately sell the most commonly asked things: brushes of various kids to work with different coat and skin types, combs, and cologne.

We have tried to sell stuffed toys, tennis balls, rawhide bones and bandanna's with absolutely no success after two years. We are located in a very small town so we need to be able to accomidate the middle class rank. Nothing too frilly or expensive would ever sell. (costumes, custom photography, dog furniture, ect.)

Any recommendations?

Price-wise, you simply can't compete with the big box stores on most items. Therefore stick with the basics or the unique. Basic grooming supplies - brushes, combs, etc. do well because we recommend them. Same with dental care items and ear care products. Various flea & tick products did well because owners wanted to take care of the problem in one stop rather than go to a big box, too. We sold extra and holiday themed bows and bandanas, and fancy treats, too, mostly as impulse items. We tried to carry items that the big box stores didn't such as breed stationary and notepads, breed magnets, trivets and other gift items. Want to move those toys and rawhides you've had sitting around a while? Try repackaging! For the holidays we'd buy fancy boxes and put together an assortment of treats and toys and sell it as a gift box!

Linkin Logs
Legos
Monopoly
And of course the timeless old favorites of a stick, a ball, and a rock. I have to agree with the cardboard box listed above as well.
All of these have withstood the test of time and kids are still playing with them today.

Can I reuse a manufactures toy packaging to ship an item to someone?

I am shipping an odd shaped item and I found a box big enough to work, but the box is from a nascar race track my son got for Christmas.

Can I use this box and just tape my mailing label to it? USPS website says they do not recommend covering boxes with paper, so does it matter that it has a plastic window (to see the toy) and pictures of the race car set and kids playing???

I always cover my packages in paper if the box is see through or has labeling on the outside (and considering I an eBay seller, I do lots of packaging especially around christmas time. I have never had any problems with it before so I do not see why you would. Just use lots of packing tape.

With all the fake Bakugan turning up everywhere, shady sellers are always gonna be on ebay and trying to fool us. The trick is to out smart them… know your bakugan, if it’s sounds too good to be true, chances are it’s fake. These non-authentic bakugans are usually easy to spot, as the attributes are not correct, the packaging is cheap and even the colors are a little off.

For Success When buying Bakugan on ebay, it’s good idea to keep a few key points in mind.

1. If your going to buy Bakugan that’s not yet released in Your country, be careful and be aware that 99% of the time, the item is not being shipped from with-in Your country… remember Bakugan is also a game of rarity, and they are released in different countries at different times to increase the hype. Some sellers have taken advantage of this by offering early Bakugan, and can be trusted to deliver, but this is at a risk, because its hard to compare that to something official.

My 2 year old has a toy machine gun that he loves. You pull this lever on the side all the way back and when you pull the trigger it makes that machine gun noise. This one is my brothers from the late 80's and it finally broke. I have been looking for one, but they are impossible to find. I can't find any online that tell me if they make that noise or not. Hi, everything you said is fine but I would try taking those computer games to one of those places you can trade them in on different games 1st. Every thing and anything can be sold at a yard/garage sale. House hold (silverware, plates, glasses, pictures, nicknack's), clothes (kids clothes are a huge seller), shoe's, toys, bike's, bedding, crafts, collectibles, house paint, tires, tools, yard garb, appliances, book-magazines, cars, ATV's anything you want to get grid of. I've also sold hot dogs 2 for $1, just the cheapies and cold pop a $1 a can and made a hall and just that. Drop numerous packages of the cheap hot dogs in your crock pot with water, turn it on high and it's all good. If you want to get rid of the left over sale items when it's all said and done, call like the Good Will, Disabled Vet's, Lupus foundation, Salvation Army at least 1 week in advance to line them up and they will come take your donations and give you a receipt for your donation for filing as a tax write off. Make sure you have Big Bright signs all around your neighborhood to bring in the buyers. Good luck.
