Top Attractions in California? 10 points?

EgyptianTr

I am Thinking to Travelling to CA on a vacation , Is Los Angeles the best Part of California?

and what's the top tourist attractions there?

Thanks very much.

Any answers would be appreciated.

Answer
There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of âmust seesâ for families with kids. Visit as many as you have time for.:

Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors canât be wrong. #1 Destination.
Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination.
Even if you donât visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And theyâre free to visit. If youâre adventurous, try the indoor skydiving (www.iflyhollywood.com). Itâs a blast!

Hollywood: Hollywood Boulevard is ready for its close-up, thanks to years of urban renewal and renovation. Most kids wonât really like the Walk of Fame or Chinese Theater, but they might enjoy the people dressed in costume who stand in front of the Chinese Theater. They will pose with you or the kids, and expect tip money. Right across the street is the El Capitan theater, which was restored to its former glory, is owned by Disney and shows Disney movies.

Other theme parks include Knottâs Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain, which are both more geared towards the fast-ride teen crowd.

Olvera Street/Union Station: Olvera Street is the birthplace of LA, and it emphasizes our Mexican heritage. In addition to the Avila Adobe (oldest building in LA), you can eat at some pretty good Mexican Restaurants, do a little shopping, and taste a churro. If you donât want to go to Tijuana, this is as close as it gets without going there. Union Station has great architecture from a bygone age. Also, you are 2 blocks from Phillippeâs (see below).

Santa Monica Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. (The Sting and "Three's Company" come immediately to mind).Bubba Gump Shrimp Company right on the pier. Kids love the rides on the pier, and the games. Or just playing in the sand.

Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, Pony Rides and Griffith Park Railroad, Merry-Go-Round, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage. While the zoo is not as good as San Diego Zoo, it is still good, and enough to entertain most kids. The Pony Rides and railroad are for the younger kids. Travel Town is a rail museum where youâre not SUPPOSED to climb on the engines, but kids have been ignoring those signs for 40 years. The recently renovated Observatory is a lot of fun. Or you can just play in one of the picnic areas in the park. There are plenty of toys to play on.

Los Angeles Science Center: A favorite museum for kids for over 40 years. Exposition Park, by the Coliseum.

Discovery Science Center, Santa Ana: The big cube right next to I-5, exit Main St.

Los Angeles Childrenâs Museum: Located in the Hansen Dam Recreation Area, currently under construction. Original location near the music Center is closed.

La Brea Tar Pits/Paige Museum: What kid doesnât like dinosaur exhibits?

Aquarium of the Pacific, Long Beach: Lots of fun marine exhibits for kids to explore. And the mac and cheese at Bubba Gumpâs across the street is good, too.

Legoland, Carlsbad: This is more of a San Diego attraction, but kids 10 and under generally love it.

Places to Stay:
Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Holiday Inn Walk of Fame, all near Hollywood and Highland. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.

Places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pinkâs Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.
Tommyâs Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly & Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canterâs Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly & Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.
Phillippeâs: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, itâs hot.
Titoâs Tacoâs: Voted best tacos in LA, even though itâs in Culver City. King Taco is a good alternate if you can deal with East LA.
The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.
Medieval Times and/or Pirateâs Dinner Adventure: Dinner and an adventure show, both are on Beach Blvd in Buena Park, you get to eat with your hands.

ideas for kid play area under section of stairs?

S Z

I have an understairs toilet. It covers from the top of under the stairs to about half way. I also have a cupboard that runs the other length of under the stairs from middle to downstairs. It's big enough to crawl in. My 2 yr son likes to hide his toys in here and I would like to know any ideas of converting it to a secret place for him. Like a little kiddy hide away. A cosy place for reading or playing. It must be safe aswell. If u have any website links to pictures aswell that would b great. Iv seen only ideas for the full length of the understairs.

Answer
Floor: Make the floor soft with a fuzzy bath mat, lambskin rug, or other soft rug.
Walls: Paint the walls a unique color that he really loves. Consider deep purple, pale spring green, or ocean-y deep teal. Avoid overly-bright primary colors, as they can be overwhelming in a small space.
You might consider making one wall a magnetic or chalkboard wall.

Lighting: Hang battery operated twinkle lights, or put a child safe lamp in the corner, such as one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Twilight-Constellation-Night-Turtle/dp/B000BNQC58/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1401221941&sr=8-5&keywords=turtle+lamp

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-69116-55-Rechargeable-Multi-color/dp/B0045Y1G6E/ref=pd_sim_hg_19?ie=UTF8&refRID=0J3YYDZRH036JYAMJSHA

Surprises: Place a little, wooden treasure chest in there with special surprises. It could be anything you think he'll love - a chunky, cool seashell; a geode or other special rock/crystal; an unbreakable snow globe; a favorite book, a little flashlight . Here are some other options:
http://www.amazon.com/Small-Ooze-Tube-Assorted-Colors/dp/B0030CHCQ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401222431&sr=8-1&keywords=ooze+tube

http://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Ball-Fiber-Optic-Wand/dp/B0027HT5AU/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_24?ie=UTF8&refRID=1DWHN70AQVDAEMNJ8XRW

http://www.amazon.com/Toysmith-Liquid-Motion-Bubbler-Assorted/dp/B004B3BVW8/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1401222525&sr=1-2&keywords=sensory

http://www.amazon.com/Light-UP-Liquid-Kaleidoscope-Toy/dp/B0057SMG3E/ref=sr_1_20?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1401222643&sr=1-20&keywords=kaleidoscope+light

Safety: For now, leave it open or hang a sheer mesh curtain that will allow him to feel "hidden" while you can still check on him easily. When he is older, you can add a door, with or without a window.
Use clear packing tape or color-matched duct tape to secure any cords so that there is no strangulation risk. Check for splinters, protruding nails, and other hazards. For now, stay near while he plays, and don't allow small objects, food or drink in the hideaway.

Have fun!

At what age do kids stop using booster seats?

karly

Answer
When the seatbelt fits them correctly:

BOOSTER SEATS & the "5 STEP TEST"

Safety belts are designed to fit the average adult male. Women and children (especially in older vehicles) simply do not fit. While there is little that can be done for adults (weâre still working on boosters to fit grown-ups who might want them LOL) belt positioning boosters make that adult belt fit your child.

Keep children in booster seats until they pass the "5 Step Test" (usually around 10-12 years old and close to 5 feet tall) in every vehicle in which the child rides. If the child meets the 5 Step Test in one vehicle, but not another, the child will need a booster for every vehicle in which the 5 Step Test is not met.

Weight is a useless measurement of whether a child is ready for the adult seat belt or not. Age is only helpful when considering the child's ability to sit properly.

In order to work properly, a shoulder belt needs to be across the collarbone and the lap belt needs to be on the hipbones. However, children often slip the shoulder belt under their arm or behind their back, losing all upper-body protection. Or, they slide forward so their knees bend comfortably over the edge of the seat, making the lap belt ride up on the abdomen. In these cases, the seat belt CANNOT work properly! Children can slide down and out of the restraint, or the belt can be forced into the stomach, causing damage to internal organs. These types of injuries are known as "seat-belt syndrome."

However, some children should NOT be in boosters.
Children under 40 pounds and under the age of four should remain in a 5 point harness at all times.

A booster does not restrain the child the way the harness does, it simply "boosts" the child up in order to make the adult-sized belt safely fit a child-sized body. Children under age 4 do not possess the ability to sit perfectly at all times, and a child who leans forward to retrieve a cup or toy, or who twists around to see something or someone behind them, will not be protected in a crash and is at risk for serious injuries and possibly death. Also, children this age sometimes still fall asleep in the car. The slumping that occurs when this happens means they are not properly positioned and should be in a 5 point harness for that trip. Ideally all children should remain in an appropriate 5 point harness until age 5.

The 5 Step Test

If you answer "No" to any of these questions, your child must be in a booster seat:
1. Does the child sit all the way back against the auto seat?
2. Do the child's knees bend comfortably at the edge of the auto seat?
3. Is the lap belt touching the top of the thighs, not the tummy?
4. Is the shoulder belt centered on the shoulder and chest?
5. Can the child stay seated like this for the whole trip?
BELT-POSITIONING BOOSTERS CAN NOT be used with only a lap belt!
(See your car dealer for a lap/shoulder belt retrofit.)

Top 15 Disney songs????

C.O.

what are your top 15 Disney (not Pixar b/c it'd be too hard then) songs and why? here's my list:

15. "Son of Man" -Tarzan (Phil Collins is pretty awesome, and this song is catchy and up beat)

14. "Be Prepared" -The Lion King (one of the best Disney villain songs ever!)

13. "Cruella De Vil" -101 Dalmatians (Not very long, but pretty catchy)

12. "You Can Fly" -Peter Pan (Peter Pan just happened to be my favorite movie as a kid other than Toy Story)

11. "Kiss the Girl" -The Little Mermaid (easily the best song in the whole movie.... well "Under The Sea" is pretty good)

10. "Bella Notte" -Lady and the Tramp (i really wanted to put this higher, but i couldn't find a spot. so top ten will have to be good enough)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WxDdz-Anâ¦

9. "Bare Necessities" -The Jungle Book (just a song about doing almost absolutely nothing... like a Disney version of "The Lazy Song")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ogQ0uge0â¦

8. "Hakuna Matata" -The Lion King (sung by the funniest duo in Disney History)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejEVczA8Pâ¦

7. "Zero to Hero" -Hercules (upbeat and just freakin' awesome)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRCteeZTrâ¦

6. "A Whole New World -Aladdin (awwwwww... how magical :P)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kl4hJ4j4â¦

5. "Be Our Guest" -Beauty and the Beast (in my opinion, better than the song "Beauty and the Beast")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov4tE7XRTâ¦

4. "Friend Like Me" -Aladdin (it's hard to put this one above "A Whole New World" but it's just funnier)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd07uvkTeâ¦

3. "I Wanna be Like You" -The Jungle Book (Come on, who doesn't love when Baloo and Louie dance?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOcyYyxqNâ¦

2. "You'll Be in my Heart" -Tarzan (Phil Collins makes the list again, w/ a slower but more powerful song)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V35oRyAMmâ¦

1. "Why Should I Worry" - Oliver in Company (Billy Joel... enough said)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb7kJ-j_dâ¦

so what are yours? and remember, no Pixar songs (other wise "You've Got a Friend In Me" and "I Wouldn't Have Nothing If I Didn't Have You" would have been on my list)

also, I tried to have the links to all of the songs... but freakin' Yahoo! won't let me add more than 10!

Answer

Pinocchio - When You Wish Upon A Star
The Lion King - Hakuna Matata

How do you make Happy Meal Treats to take to school?

top kids toys under 5 image

gensler97

I have heard of moms sending these to school before. They are individually bagged for each kid, with a treat that resembles a hamburger, fries ( I think it is those string chips ), a drink, and a little toy.

Answer
Are you looking for a little treat that is shaped like a hamburger and fries? Or are you looking for fun lunch treats in general?

Here is a snack combo treat that resembles a burger and fries. The "burger" is a cookie and the fries are like a peanut butter fudge. They are from quickcooking.com There are pictures at the website.

Cookie Burger
http://recipes.tasteofhome.com/eRMS/recp.aspx?recid=7956
INGREDIENTS
1 package (17-1/2 ounces) sugar cookie mix
2 drops yellow food coloring, optional
1-1/2 cups peanut butter chips, chopped
TOPPING:
3/4 cup flaked coconut
5 to 6 drops green food coloring
FILLING:
1/2 cup butter, softened
2-2/3 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
Prepare cookie dough according to package directions; add yellow food coloring if desired. Stir in peanut butter chips. Shape into 1-1/4-in. balls; place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a glass. Bake at 375° for 9-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
Place coconut in a plastic bag; sprinkle 5 to 6 drops green food coloring into bag and shake until color is evenly distributed.
In a small mixing bowl, cream butter until smooth. Add the confectioners' sugar, cocoa, milk and vanilla; beat until smooth. Frost the bottoms of 22 cookies; sprinkle with coconut. Top with remaining cookies and gently squeeze together. Yield: 22 sandwich cookies.
"You may substitute your favorite sugar cookie recipe for the cookie mix; just add the yellow food coloring if desired and the peanut butter chips"

Peanutty Fries
http://recipes.tasteofhome.com/eRMS/recp.aspx?recid=7957
INGREDIENTS
1 package (10 ounces) peanut butter chips
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
Paper muffin cup liners (2-1/2-inch diameter)
Red icing, optional

In a microwave, melt peanut butter chips with milk; stir until smooth. Pour into a foil-lined and greased 9-in. baking pan. Cool completely at room temperature. Lift out of the pan and invert onto a cutting board.
Remove foil; cut into 3-in. x 1/4-in. strips. Fold muffin cup liners in half, pressing out creases; fold in half again. Fold point under; use as holder for fries. Use icing for ketchup if desired. Yield: about 3-1/2 dozen.

What are some costumes that are easy to make for Halloween?

Q. I am 13, and this is my first Halloween with two other friends. There are no good costume shops for kids around here, so I decided it'd be best to make my own. You can suggest ideas for all three of us, or one just for me.

What I have so far:
- Charlie Brown styled ghost (white sheet with two holes cut out for eyes)
- Fairy

Answer
I know!

1.evil/goth ragdoll
get a black dress and rip it up a bit and make sure its above the knee [kinda like a long shirt], get white shorts that go to your knee and get a white cloth and stain some "blood" on the white cloth, sew it on the black dress [like lob sided] and then get 2 buttons [or cut 2 red circles from a cloth] and sew it on the top corners of the white cloth, get red and white striped long sock or black and white striped long socks.make your hair in ponytails and then add some red yarn to make a ragdoll hair effect
basicly try to make it look like this

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41WcunAME5L._AA260_.jpg
as far as makeup just make your face a little pale and then add a chelsea smile [look it up its pretty cool] using red lipstick.n add heavy amount of black eye shadow

2.theres a fairy,
you just wear a cute dress and some yellow leggings and a pair of yellow wings :) get yellow, pink, and blue eyeshadow and so something cute

3.you can be a Vet,
go to a thrift store and i know that there has to be a doctor uniform somewere in there [in every thrift store ive been in there ALWAYS was atleast 1 doctor gown or uniform] get a pair of those things the doctor uses to listen to someones heart and put them around your neck like the doctors always do. then get a little toy dog or cat and get toilet paper and wrap it around one leg and stain "blood" on it, not to much just a little blood.

4.high school/middle school graduate
http://www.flickr.com/photos/daydreamconcepts/2959165744/
something like that, you can make your own hat
and just wear a purple dress and get a "diploma" by just getting paper and wrapping it around and tieing it with a rubber band

5.a cat
sooo easy, so do i have to explain?
black dress and buy or make some a tail and some ears

6.a crayola box [ i was this last year] just get some leggings [colorful leggings and wear them and wear a tank top as a shirt, those are under garments.
then somehow make a box using cardboard and color the box to make it look like this
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25264699@N06/2401773542/ [look at the box on the back]

have a happy halloween:)

how can i stop my kitten climbing the christmas tree?

I have a 8 weeks old kitten, very playful. She has been climbing the christmas tree all the way to the top and broken 4-5 ornaments already. I took her down, spanked her and told her but this doesn't work so far. And now, she sees this whole action as a "play" for her. She would run to the tree, climbed it and waited for me or my kids to yell at her and took her down.

Answer
My cat used to do the dame thing. We got a spray bottle and I would dowse her everytime she got near the tree. Now that she has kittens, they like to play with the bulbs. I did the same thing with them. Cats can't stand the pray bottle, so when they see it, they run. Now when they go near it, they only lay under it.

You can't spank cats, like you can a dog. A dog sees it as punishment, especially when the "pack leader" does it. But when you do it to a cat, she sees the "petter" playing. Cats are so stubborn, that's why people think they're stupid. Cats CHOOSE what they want to learn. And the way you have to reach into the tree looks more like play time, then punishment.

So get the spray bottle and squirt her, at least, until she's out of the tree. And when she gets near it, squirt her again. She won't like the water, so she'll eventually get the hint. You could also take a toy that could hang and tie it onto something on the opposite side of the room. That way, she'll be distracted by the new dangling toy, and not worry about the tree.

Caging your cat will only tell her that when she wants to play, she's going to be caged. Animals can't comprehend ''you can play with this, but not that''. If they want to play with something, and they get caged, they'll stop playing.

I have a long journey planned on my next vacation with my 1.5 year old. A fourteen hour flight followed by layover and then a 6-7 hour. We did not opt for an exclusive seat for him either. Any tips?

Answer
Here are a couple of tips from our own experience:

1. most importantly: call the airline and try to get a bassinette, and at least one seat next to it(that's the crib that attaches to the wall in front of the bulk head seats). the bassinette itself will probably be too small for your child to actually sleep in, but will hold all the extra stuff that comes along with a toddler. moreover, the extra leg room will give your toddler more space to play that is NOT your lap or the aisle...
note: bulk head seats are usually booked first because there's more leg room there, but parents with infants on-lap (younger than 2 years) have priority to these seats on most airlines. if you can't book the seat in advance, don't dispair - you can still get it upon check in: come in early and insist on it!
2. try to keep the child's routine as close to normal as possible. keep meal times and nap times as close as you can to your "home time". bring small packs of favorite foods and snacks with you, as plane food is not likely to top your kids list... you can heat up baby food by putting the container in a small cup filled with a half-inch to an inch of boiling water and stirring the contents. "Gerber" containers fit perfectly, or you could use the small, round, 4-oz disposable plastic containers (like "Glad" or such) which also fit in the coffee cups provided on airplanes.
3. of course, if your child has a favorite toy, stuffed animal, blankie etc., have it with you on board.
4. get a bunch of new, real-cheap little toys that you wouldn't mind losing / throwing away by the end of the trip. introduce a new one every hour or so -- it'll buy you precious time! i'd put under this category also some little arts & crafts items, like stickers and crayons.
5. have at least two full changes of baby clothes and lots of extra diapers with you, as well as a small "baby-bath travel kit", just in case your layover gets extended, your suitecases go astray, and so on... i'd also take an extra shirt for mom and dad, for any unfortunate accidents.
6. on the plane, don't be shy - let baby run up and down the isles. fighting it won't help anyway, and the excersize is good for you both ;-) plus, the more energy they spend, the more likely they are to fall asleep at some point...
7. talk to your pediatritian about baby-safe antihistamines - a small dosage may be all the help baby needs to get drowsy and sleep better when they're already over-tired, but the strange environment won't let them fall asleep...
8. take a deep breath, and remind yourself that, as hard as this one day may be, it's only one day of travel, and it, too, shall pass!

good luck! :)

how can i stop my kitten climbing the christmas tree?

nfang74

How do you make Happy Meal Treats to take to school?
