Q. My kids love making smoothies and milkshakes and we love making slushy drinks like Strawberry Daiquris for pool-time in the summer. I've gone through multiple blenders that don't seem to really do the trick but this "Ninja Mega Kitchen" sounds like it's much better than things I've seen in stores. What have people experienced?
A. Like this one..?

Both look like they will get the job done, for sure. The Ninja Mega-Kitchen is way stronger than the Ninja Pulse or the standard Ninja Pro. I don't have the Ninja professional blender or the Mega-Kitchen-version but that one especially looks like a sturdy and well designed blender/multi-use appliance. It's gorgeous. I love the additional gadgets and attachments. That will work for many things, not just juicing and blending smoothies. Very powerful and thick, sturdy glass bowl/top. The trick with smoothies and frozen drinks is to make sure you have an appliance that is manufactured to crush ice. (some blenders don't). The stronger the motor and the better-quality the blades, the longer it will last.
Any pro blender (like those awesome ones at Jamba juice, Robeks juice, Mrs. Gooch's, or Whole Foods Market) will be fine. A KitchenAid stand blender can do everything with the right attachment(s) and has a strong motor as well. It's nice when the appliance will also press fresh juices (like carrot and root vegetables, sweet potatoes, celery, etc.), as well as juice, blend, puree, and chop. I like to juice, also I use my KitchenAid but it's a hassle to clean. Believe it or not, I've had quite a bit of luck with the Magic Bullet. It's pretty powerful and I make a lot of home-made, fresh veggie-type juices, as well as blueberry/strawberry/banana-type smoothies with it.

What is like an iphone, but not a phone, that can download apps? Thinking of Kids Christmas Present?
Q. Anybody got any good gadget ideas for a 10 year old? I don't want to spend $500 on a phone, but maybe something like it????
A. Any ebook sized tablet running android or iOS (or even stretch to windows, but it has limited amounts of apps)
Or an iPod touch.
For app availability and style, go for iOS products. (iPod touch, ipad mini etc)
For price and flexibility, go for android. I bet after a quick google search you'll find a cheap android tablet (possibly below £100)
