There is a little shopping centre in Amstelveen (where loads of Japanese expats live in and around). It is just off the Beneluxbaan, tram 5 and 51 stop "Zonnestein" and called "Kostverlorenhof" and it is rapidly turning into a Japanese corner!
In there (only a small centre), there is a Japanese restaurant, a Japanese hairdresser, a shop selling Japanese food & drink, a Korean/East Asian shop also with food, Thai restaurant and then a Japanese shop on the corner selling books, kids toys & other things (it's fairly new so I didn't really look in there). http://images.google.nl/imgres?imgurl=http://www.stichtingcbw.nl/blobs/images/Winkelcentra/Noord%2520Holland/Amstelveen/WC%2520Kostverlorenhof/Kostverlorenhof%2520044.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.stichtingcbw.nl/index.srf%3Flang_id%3D360%26pkn%3Dfile_id%26pkv%3D1609&h=245&w=326&sz=36&hl=nl&start=1&um=1&tbnid=xDADWVvAkdsMcM:&tbnh=89&tbnw=118&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dkostverlorenhof%26um%3D1%26hl%3Dnl%26sa%3DN
Otherwise there is also a food based shop at Gelderlaanplein (Buitenveldert).

Japanese doll for kids?
vicazbalce
Hi, im currently in Tokyo, Japan and i want to take my niece a doll as a gift, but so far the only dolls i find when i ask for them are the wooden dolls (so kawaii but not what im looking for). Im looking for a doll a little girl would play with, almost something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/DOLL-CLOTHES-FITS-AMERICAN-GIRL-RED-JAPANESE-KIMONO-/120607579375?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0
I would love for her to look japanese or possibly have a kimono. My question is, does anyone know where in tokyo (shinjuku to be exact) i could find something similar to a doll like this, where is there a major kid store or toy store? Thank you :)

If you'd like a teenage doll, there's Licca-chan. She's a bit like the Japanese Barbie. She sometimes comes with a kimono or yukata. I've sent my niece a few over the years.
I'm afraid I don't know many of the other dolls...I think another famous doll is Popo-chan. You could try asking at a toy store for a Doll in Japanese clothing.
Sorry, I don't live in Tokyo, but many department stores will have a toy department.
