There are a few organizations that give out free toys to need children, or children whose parents can't afford to give them Christmas gifts. Toys for tots gives toys to kids who need them; www.toysfortots.org. You can also go to Salvation Army and ask about their program that is similar to Toys for Tots, or go to some local churches because a lot of them donate toys to kids.You might also want to go to your child's school and ask about it, because a lot of schools have programs where they let kids pick certain toys if their parents can't afford it. If you live near a YMCA, they have a Women and children crisis center that sometimes helps women to give gifts to their children. Those are the few that I could think of. Most of my babys toys are from china! Her theme is Hello Kitty. So i've been collecting a bunch of hello kitty things such as stuff animals, hello kitty figures, lamps, tin boxes, those hello kitty mcdonalds toys. Its all made from china! should i be worried?!? Shes just one & puts everything in her mouth. Do i need to throw them out? One of fisher price toys on the recall list she got on christmas so would it still contain lead?

I would go find the fisher price web site and go through their recall list. I found a toy on there my kids have and reported it, they are suppose to be sending me a package to return the toy and then giving me a coupon for the toys worth to buy a different toy, not on the list. So go check it out, but try to keep her away from any toys you are concerned about until you can find out if they need to be returned. I also saw on the news there is a "Lead Test Kit" you can buy at most hardwear stores so you can test your childs toys with out having to try searching through all the recall lists. I am going to get the toys for my kids. since we are going to a roughttime we are going to get free from toys for tots. Can i go alone there *(they already have my info). or do i need to take my children. they are 12,9.7,11 years old. I don't want them to fell bad if they are getting free staff.

I don't think your kids need to go with you. They should have the information on all your children and have some things put aside for them already.

I don't see a reason for the kids to have to come. It might be better for them not to because like you said they may feel embarrassed, and it will ruin the surprise.

You shouldn't feel embarrassed lots of people are having a hard time this Christmas. I wish you the best for the new year and happy holidays.

Online! I have a bunch on nieces and nephews plus my own toddler. There is nothing worse than a crowed toy department. I'm beating them all by purchasing all those toys online. Amazon actually gives you free shipping and handling if you spend enough. It's certainly something to consider.

Hi I have a 4 year old and it has taken forever for myself and my wife to get his xmas presents. Yes the recalls were a factor. and small pieces.. to be honest though you have to let go of a lot of fears and go with what you feel is safe. The usual fisher price Little tykes.. etc. Basically any toy can be dangerous and can be part of a recall.. Basically ... you have to think you cannot protect your child from every single danger you basically have to minimise the dangers... Go with age appropriae toys... and then at least you get away from the too small swallow problem..
have a good xmas and ... bring your kids some joy nt worries.
BTW .... the young lady saying she is giving toys that have not been tested on animals .. basically how safe are they.. also .. it is well known hat all the chemicals in everything used by people has been tested on animals. Becasue a comany states they have not tested thier products on animals ony means they havnt doen tthe testing... in the past all the ingredients they use have been tested on aimals. They use already tested chemicals known to be safe.... and then they dont have to test thier final products to forfill sate and federal laws.. Think about it .. if they produced totally untested products.... and a reaction how eer small they would be sued for millions.. these comanies are not stupid but they believe the public are.. and in general unfortunately the public fall for this every day........ You only have to look at comanies like the Body shop... yep ..they were taken to task about this very same thing...

I want to know a place in Rhode Island. I am trying to get a grant. If you knew what it feels like not to get toys on christmas you'd want to do it too. Just please look for programs like adopt a family and toys for tots. I bet the children not getting toys will love it. Thank you!

First of all thank you for actually thinking of others this Christmas, you won't believe how selfish people can get around now. Ask your church, many times they will set up a program around Christmas. Or try sending them anonymously to a children's hospital or just a regular hospital and they will give them to the kids.

I am just wondering if you are planning on buying china made toys for your kids this christmas or if you are planning on avoiding them? And Why?
There are plenty of toys made in the US and we are not stuck buying China toys. The step 2 mail box is made in the US!!
I do believe china is trying to kill us off, don't you see they have to many people and not enough land, they will take all they can get.
Just think the job oppotunities for the Americans if we started making toys here in the US

So christmas is obviously coming up, and my little sister is 11 years old and i have no idea what to get her. Shes not really into stupid kid toys or board games or anything like that. shes really funny, outgoing, sweet and hangs out with me (who is 15) so shes kind of mature and doesn't want boring stuff. and i don't really want to get her a gift card or money because that's to original and she gets that from allot of people. i need something that's not to expensive, and is special. im very excited for this upcoming black friday already especially those $200 hp laptop and hdtv at bestbuy and target. but im kinda holding back on spending big for these week's sale because christmas sale might have better deals since stores are to clear out items every end of the year. but in your experience in the previous years, which sale has the better deals? especially for electronics, kids toys, and clothes? thanks!

I think the sales are better after Christmas. Items of choice should be in stock and less demand. I have found great sales on toys and other items I bought (ridiculously under priced) and I wish I had waited. I think the Thanksgiving sales are just a way to get you in the store and after Christmas is a need to get rid of merchandise.
