BABY TOYS for younger kids(0- 4 months)?

happygoluc

I can't figure out what to get my nephew for his first Christmas. He will be 4 months! I already got him enough clothes(seeing how he is the first grandchild for both families he has clothes he will NEVER wear haha) and No diapers/diaper products(we buy it from costco so no issue). I was going to buy a baby swing because he likes to be rocked but his daddy and mommy bought it. What toys can I get for him? He will be barely four months when it's Christmas...Oh he has ALL the teething supplies needed haha.

Answer
Check out Tiny Love's website. They make developmental toys for infants. You can see what skills/milestones baby is working on at a specific age and choose toys that have those developmental goals in mind. They make *great* products. I've pasted the link for 3-6 month toys.

Lamaze also makes exceptional developmental toys.

what is the best toy for bay 6 month age?

Answer
For a little one something textured and makes noise is always good.. Stuffed animals actually arent very good because everything goes in mouth and is hard to clean and keep germ free. Most little ones love those plastic keys. Also they are great when they start teething they will probably chew on them a lot. My kids had some that had a box with buttons like people with car alarms have and it made noise. Also any toy that plays music is going to be good and they like lights too.

Best/favourite toys from newborn - 6 months?

Bogan Mum

Im expecting my second in november. A girl. For some reason i can not find any of my sons toys! They must be somewhere but i cant find them. So i might just buy a few. So im just wondering what toys did you baby love and what ones do you think are the best?

Also with those activity mat things. Where you have the colourful mat and then the bars with hanging toys toys, are there any special things to look for that would make one better than another? My son never had one so i dont know what to look for in one and i know if i ask in the store they will talk me into the most expensive one, lol

Answer
I went through a lot of activity mats before I got a good one. I took back 3 of them because they held no interest and/or the music was so bad I couldn't stand it. Here is the one I kept http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2744546
It cost more than most but is worth the extra money because its so versatile. You can use it as a travel bed or nap mat and it will keep your infant contained until they are crawling. The important thing with the mat is to get a good musical light up toy on it. This one has a lady bug that is just mesmerizing to babies. We would attach it to the car, crib, stroller, and he never got sick of it.

Other than that my kid's favorite toys at 6 months were ones that had lights and music and were easy to activate and small rattles and other noisemakers. He also loved cloth books that crinkled and toys with mirrors.

6 month anniversary?

What do i buy my 25 year old boyfriend for our 6 month anniversary. Relationship is quite serious and my budget is open to suggestions. I have no idea what is appropriate but i dont want to give him anything too big as we'll be on holiday when it passes.

Answer
I never head of 6-month anniversary present issues. But, if this relationship is really as serious as you say, instead of presents, why don't and he sit down together, talk about something the two of you can do together as a couple of more than 6 months?

One of my favorite times when my husband and I were dating was when we both prepared one of those old-fashioned picnics, complete with picnic basket, small hibachi, and we each made our own favorite dish to bring along, plus one toy or game we remember doing as a kid during a picnic (my husband brought a kite - me, the geek, I brought an old Trivial Pursuit game). It's a wonderful way to find out something about the other person that perhaps we weren't aware of. And it's something that you'll never be too old to do.

If you'll be on holiday, have the local restaurant/delicatessan (sp)/bed-and-breakfast help you prepare a basket.

Enjoy and congratulations!

I have a 6 month old Dachshund and every time I leave the house she destroys all wiring to everything she can find. Its not only wires its shoes, my kids toys, if she finds trash she will destroy it and and shred it all over the house. Please someone help me any suggestions...

Answer
there are crates, depending on how long she is alone, and make sure she gets enough exercise, she is a puppy so nothing rigorous, but walks are very important

What are your absolute favorite toys for 6-12 month olds?

Emmy Jo (1

Our son will be turning 6 months old tomorrow, and we want to get him a few new toys as a half birthday gift. What are your favorite toys for your 6-12 month old, and what do you love about them?

Answer
My son is 10 mos.
-He particularly likes anything with large wheels that he can turn. He has a large plastic truck with no small parts and a little train with a few cars (also no small parts). I like these because he'll spend a lot of time just turning the wheels, but then he can also push it around the room.
-He also likes things that makes a sound if you press one specific area (he has a dragon that burps--I've no idea who came up with that but it still cracks us both up!).
-Here's something that I can't describe, but he loved it especially around 6-8 mos. http://www.thinkgeek.com/geek-kids/b0a3/
-Another favorite are bathtime squirt toys like these: http://www.amazon.com/Elegant-Baby-Piece-Squirties-Vinyl/dp/B000G7WYNI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1278662459&sr=1-4 They're fun in the bath but he also enjoys carrying them around and blowing air at himself.
-There's also the "Scout" dog (and similar products). These are more expensive (ours was a gift), though still very affordable at around $20, and they can be programmed to talk to your child and say his name, plus you can choose songs and music that it "sings" which also can be personalized. I noticed that once we got it (at 5 mos) he started responding to his name quite a bit more and I think that it will later help him build a rudimentary vocabulary. http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-19156-My-Pal-Scout/dp/B001W30D2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1278662573&sr=1-1
-Board books are also great. Our son doesn't care so much to be read to yet, but he likes turning the pages (and eating them). Later maybe we'll actually get him to pay attention to the words. :)

You didn't ask, but here are some "non-baby" baby toys that our son loves:
-a lightweight flashlight. It rolls, he can hold it and he's endlessly delighted with turning the light on and off
-a set of 'blank' keys. He used to play with our keys, but as soon as he became mobile we could never find them when we needed them. I went a hardware store and bought a few different keys (not carved to any specific design) and put them on a ring. He loves it and I know where my keys are now!
-a half-full bottle of water (tightly closed). It rolls, it reflects the light, makes sound. Our son learned to crawl chasing after a bottle of water.
-a small non-helium balloon (but of course only when supervised). My son loves this; he'll chase it around and he loves hitting himself (and others) with it.

Happy birthday to your son; if you haven't already, you should be starting to get more sleep soon. :)

My cat is spayed and brings in the kids small toys every night and she cries. She had a litter about 6 months ago and she started doing this about 2 weeks ago. Im guessing its because she is missing her babies.. Any ideas of what it could be or how to treat the problem?

Answer
i'm glad to see someone who's responsible enough to get their cat fixed! i'm assuming the kittens have been gone now for 3-4 months or so? she really probably isn't missing them much - cats have a very short memory when it comes to litters. more likely, she is showing you her catch of the day. just because she's spayed, her hunting instincts are still in place.

my neutered cats do this as well, both male and female. they act like a peacock when i see what they've brought me every night. it's usually one of their feathered cat toys, but sometimes it's my daughter's stuffed animals or a hair tie or paper. it varies by cat and day, but a quick ackowledgement usually quiets them down for a while.

What is something fun I could do with a 21 month and a 6 month?

Amber B

I am just trying to think of things to do with the two of them and nothing is coming to mind. I know that my 6 month old is still very young but there has to be something because my oldest is at the age where she just wants to do things. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
Is it warm where you are? Go to a park, the 21 month old will love it, and the 6 month old will enjoy being outside. Pack a picnic, bring a big blanket. Lay it out, bring a few toys for your 6 month old and play on there with them and let your 21 month old have a ball on the slide and other things. Then eat your picnic.
Make a habit out of it once a week.

At my library they have story time, where a women comes in and does a puppet show with books or other interesting things. And then afterwards you can let your 21 month old pick out a special book and you can as well. ITs targeted at young children. I used to take my son to this last summer and he was only 4-7 months old, he enjoyed being out and looking around at the kids. You could go each week on this day as well.
