I am opening a daycare in my home in about 6-8 weeks and I've already got lots of toys for toddlers. I am already thinking about letting them paint/color but what else can I do with them? Any ideas? They are in the toddler age group. Thanks!!! I will have only about 3-4 tots.

I once did a summer job at a daycare centre with that age group, they're lovely to work with!

Storytime - Little kids LOVE books :)

Hamabeads - Little beads that you iron to make shapes. I think they're designed for an older agegroup but I did them when I was 3-4 :D

Animals - Kiddies love pets so try buying or hiring a small pet like a fish or hamster

Playdough (I don't know if you have that in the US, it's a bit like plasticine and easy to make) is always popular. Buy or make a couple of batches in different colours :)

Jigsaws - A few easy jigsaws are fun. Note that piece often go missing!

Dress-ups - Every little girl's dream!

How can you make a trip enjoyable for 3 kids under the age of 8?

Hi all :-)
My sister is on her way from PA to TX and she took her girls (3, 6 & 8) a DVD player, coloring books & their baby dolls to play with.
They aren't even half way there and the girls are really bored...what are some things they can do to make the trip fun?
She doesn't have the money or the time to stop and be buying toys and such.
Help!

Answer
Travelling for that long with young children is hard. There's not much she can do other than what's she's doing already.

The only options are games, videos, and drawing/crafts. She could try "I spy" or sing-a-longs (which don't usually last long on our road trips), Those games where you have to think of a colour, country, food, etc. that starts with the letter that the previous person's food ends with (eg. bacoN, NachoS, SpinacH, HamburgeR, Rigatoni, etc.), she could find a Michaels and get some colouring posters (those velvet ones that come with markers are always a hit with our kids) or bead kits (but be prepared to hear a lot of whining about falling beads), or find a TRU close to the highway and get some travel games like connect 4, trouble, battleship, etc. We take our Leapsters (or Nintendo DSi or whatever) on long trips, which is good for an hour at a time, but that's not going to help your sister right now as they are pricey.

Travelling with small children is always hard. Much luck to her, and may she win the lottery so she can fly next time. ;-)
