How do you safely disinfect kid toys?

vgibson81

I have 3 babies that I take care of and 4 older kids as well, How do I safely disinfect the toys and how often should I do it?

Answer
Definitely use bleach water. One of my teaching classes was about communicable disease and they said we had to use bleach water. You only need about a capful or two for a whole gallon. Don't make it too strong or it will bleach your clothes or carpets.

Go to the dollar store and get some of the mesh laundry bags, preferably white. These bags have the holes in them so the bleach water gets in, but it makes you get more toys done quicker. Also have a plastic bin for the bleach water.

Lay the toys out on towels to dry. We would put down a couple of shower curtains and then would put some towels on top. They'd be dry the next day.

How should I put toys inside a balloon?

c

I'm going to my mom's work tomorrow. There are bunches of kids there and I wanted to put a few toys and stuff into a normal latex balloon. Then I plan on blowing it up (with my own breath, not helium). How should I put the toys inside the balloon? Toys first, or breath first?
The toys are just little things like lip gloss tubes and snakes and little things like that.
How DO you put toys in a balloon?

Answer
The toys should not have any sharp edges or points on them, of coarse. I suggest you cut off the top of a water bottle to make a funnel, stretch the mouthpiece of the balloon over the bottle opening, and drop the toy in that way. Then inflate the balloon preferably with an electric inflator instead of using your breath so bacteria won't come in contact with the toy. If the bottle opening is too small, put the toy in the toe of discarded panty hose and stuff it through the neck of the balloon. (The panty hose should be a tunnel or tube instead of a sack). Once the toy is in the balloon, slip the hosiery out and inflate. Reason is to avoid damaging the balloon so it wouldn't burst upon inflation.
