when you go to shops for Christment decoration, you see those toy houses that lit up. they are so beautiful. They look like those houses are made out of wood, rather than cement. Those are like post office, police station, kids are riding skate, etc. Which century are they from? 19th ? 18th? Thanks.

Answer
"Hot cockles" was a popular game at Christmas in medieval times. It was a game in which the other players took turns striking the blindfolded player, who had to guess the name of the person delivering each blow. "Hot cockles" was still a Christmas pastime until the Victorian era.

"White Christmas" (1954), starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, was the first movie to be made in Vista Vision, a deep-focus process.

"The Nutcracker" is the name for the ballet performed around Christmas time each year. "The Nutcracker Suite" is the title of the music Tchaikovsky wrote.

"Wassail" comes from the Old Norse "ves heill"--to be of good health. This evolved into the tradition of visiting neighbors on Christmas Eve and drinking to their health.

A Christmas club, a savings account in which a person deposits a fixed amount of money regularly to be used at Christmas for shopping, came about around 1905.

I am looking for toys for my soon to be 2 year old twins. They don' t play with very many things and I was wondering if any mom's or dad's have any suggestions.
Sorry - they are b/g twins. I should have said that.

Well, I'll write this for both boys & girls...and assume they share. All of these are really fun and have occupied my kids or my friend's kids for a while.

Wheely Bugs - These are adorable soft ride on toys. They are a huge hit with kids 2+ years old. Gender neutral ones are the bee and cow.

Busy Go & Grow Giraffe - Another ride on toy that is a great option for toddlers.

Monte Carlo Car - One more ride on option. This is the ultra-sporty car for a boy and the same car for a girl but it's pink with flowers.

Mega Maze - My kids love to play in this and they really use their imaginations. It's great if you have room for it. Toy says for ages 3+ but smaller kids can play with it too.

Monster Bowling! This is a great toy for twins because they can take turns and play with it together. It's plush so it's pretty safe too. Kids think these little monsters are very funny.

Best of luck!
