What do you/your kids take in your carry on bag on an airplane/car ride? Do they pack their own bag or in yours? Do you help them or is it all up to them?
What about suit cases? Who packs those? If they do, do you give them a checklist? Do you go over it to see if they have everything or if they forget something, it's their problem?
Also, how old are they?
Answer
My 10 and 11 year old boys fly twice a year to Florida and Oregon to visit their grandparents and they share a book bag with snacks, a pack of gum for takeoff, two books each, their DS ( but they usually don't use these at all) writing paper and a pencil/pen (I ask them to write every day and to write a paragraph on the plane about what they are experiencing right at that moment) and I always get them a mad libs, or crossword puzzles/word finds. They can entertain themselves for the entire flight with a book of mad libs. My 6 year old takes all of the above and a couple small toys, he loves his cars to play with in his lap. My twin 4 year olds have not flown, but if we did take them with us, I would pack snacks, books, and a portable DVD player, or my laptop with movies in them, suckers for takeoff, coloring books with pencil that has all the colors in one pencil. That way you don't have to keep track of crayons. We found them at Micheals. My oldest daughter loves to listen to music, so I would also bring a child's pair of earphones to listen to kids music. Lots of patience for the parents.
