Worried about my toddler development!!!!!?
ss
My son is 18mths old the only words that he says is uh-oh, ball, mama, cheese, and bye-bye @ times! He follow some directions like....Throw this in the garbage, Go get your shoes e.t.c I am really worried about him! He is a busy body so he rarely sit down when I'm trying to teach him a new task...Help
When you look @ all these milestones charts it says he should be saying @ least 50 words by now
I'm on baby center and all the other moms with kids the same age as my son says their kids are saying way more words than my son! :(
Answer
I don't want to sound mean, but I think that you may be looking at the charts wrong. I actually have a son who is developmentally behind because he has a brain condition. He does still have the capability to be a perfectly normal little boy, it is just going to take him longer to make the connections in his brain. I am looking at my chart right now, and this is the one directly from our neurologist. He gave this to us so we would know when to be worried. At 18 months, a normal child should:
* Walk, may run a bit
*Climbs up or down one step
*Likes pull toys
*Likes being read to
* Makes marks with crayon on paper or table
*Partially feeds self
*May say between 5 and 10 words (notice not 50)
Toddlers at this age are little scientists and inventors. They never want to sit still because of the fact that every thing to them is new, exciting, and there is something for them to learn around every corner. I think that you may be putting too much pressure on yourself as a mother to try and "teach" him. He can and will basically teach himself. When he is interested and willing he will come to you, and try to help you. That is when you try to teach a toddler because that is when they have opened their mind to learn that specific thing. To me, it sounds like your little boy is doing just fine. If you still think that your child is having some problems, you may want to take him to the doctor and get a little reassurance from them. I know that no matter what I say, I am still just some lady on yahoo. Hearing the same thing from your doctor, may make you feel a little better about the situation. Just have fun and enjoy your toddler. I hope that this helps. Good Luck!
