â¢When dealing with children, praise more, criticize less.

â¢Never say no to a gift from a child.

â¢Your children get only one childhood; think of this when you âdonât have timeâ to play, hug, kiss, and express your love for them. Make time for Iâm sorry, Iâm listening, I love you.

â¢You is smart, you is kind, you is important. [Kathryn Stockett in The Help]

â¢Children need models rather than critics. [Joseph Joubert (1754-1824)]

â¢You teach people how to treat you. It starts when your children are born. If you tolerate poor behavior, your kids will expect to get away with deplorable actions.

â¢There are two things you can and should give your child: roots and wings.

â¢Eliminate toy clutter. Children of all ages will play more creatively and independently with five toys than they will with 50.... Fewer toys allow a child to focus more effectively.... [John Rosemond in âLiving With Childrenâ 2011]

â¢Dealing with kids: It takes a thousand âattaboysâ to erase a single âyou're not good enough.â [Dr. Phil 2/12]

â¢A parentâs time is the coin of childhood. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Children are our future: raise them with love and discipline; teach them respect and kindness.

â¢Children are natural mimics who act like their parents despite every effort to teach them good manners.

â¢Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word-for-word what you shouldn't have said.

â¢A child who learns to manage a little courtesy, even under pressure, is a child who is operating well in the world, a child with a positive prognosis.

â¢Thereâs nothing that can help you understand your beliefs more than trying to explain them to an inquisitive child. [Frank A. Clark]

â¢Treat the Earth well: it was not given to you by your parents; it was lent to you by your children. [Kenyan proverb]

â¢Manners (otherwise known as âsocial skillsâ) are at the heart of the whole parental enterprise. Every infant is born adorable but selfish and the center of the universe. Itâs a parentâs job to teach children that there are other people, and that others have feelings that can be hurt.

â¢We are all children sometimes, in our heart of hearts. [Jude Morgan in Charlotte and Emily]

â¢Little child, little problems; big child, big problems. [Anna Quindlen in Every Last One]

â¢We don't get most of our fears as adults; we bring them from childhood. [David Wiltse in Close to the Bone]

â¢Itâs easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. [Frederick Douglas]

â¢Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, you should cherish every moment and realize that the wonderment growing inside you is the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle. [Erma Bombeck (1927-1996)] (baby, childbirth, life)

â¢In the same way that you cannot choose your parents, neither can you choose your children. [idea from âThe Talented Mr. Ripleyâ]

â¢Fill a childâs bucket of self-esteem so full that the rest of the world canât poke enough holes in it to drain it dry.

â¢The only role models who have an actual impact are the ones at home at your dinner table.

â¢God should double your patience when you marry and triple it when you have children. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Spare the rod and spoil the child is a warning, not a commandment.

â¢Even children have good ideas sometimes, probably because they have not yet learned prejudice and obfuscation, and do not screen their possibilities. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢If you truly love your children, give them more time than anything else. Your time is really all you have that is genuinely yours to give. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Remember: What you do, what you say, how you listen, what you allow to happen in your family and household is the attitude and behavior you are modeling for your children that they will absorb and apply to their own lives in the future. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Pay attentionâreal attentionâto a small child. The adults who did that when you were a kid are probably your role models.

â¢Parental Commandments: Be consistent. Actions have consequences. Say what you mean and mean it. Parents work together as a team. Don't make promises you can't keep. Listen to your children. Establish a routine. Respect is a two-way street. Positive reinforcement works much better than negative reinforcement. Manners are universal. Define your role as parents.
