My best friend is throwing my baby shower and she lives with her parents (she's 20) but they live in a super nice big house on the beach. The only thing is this is my 2nd baby shower and most of my friends have kids around the age of 2. I would feel terrible having all these kids running around getting into thing at her house (they don't have any kids). So when I invite the people to come should I put not to bring the kids with? I'm not sure what to do.
My first child was a girl in 08' , and now we are having a boy. Otherwise we wouldn't have another shower :)
* I didn't ask for a nother shower. My bff is offering.
Answer
Some people may not be able to come unless they bring the kids. Maybe you can see if you can help get a bedroom set up as a play area. Just help your friend set aside anything fragile and bring in some toys for the kids to play with. Make sure its near the main baby shower area so you all can still keep an eye on the kids. Another option is if a few husbands can take the kids to a zoo for a few hours. Its not uncommon to have kids at a baby shower if it comes down to it. And talk to your friends parents and get there permission too to make sure its ok to rsvp a bedroom for the kids to play in.
It's not selfish to have a 2nd shower for a different sex baby. Don't let people bring you down like that. It's not all about the gifts. Its to have joy over a new life!

Answer
When *I* was a kid:
Kids played outdoors the majority of the day.
There was 1 channel (maybe 2 if you were lucky and lived in the right area) dedicated to children. And it was the first channel dedicated to children.
There were only a few types of video game consoles, and very few families had them. You had to find the right families if you wanted to play any games without going to arcades. There were 60 houses in my neighborhood, and only 4 of them had a video game console.
If you wanted money, you found a way to earn it. Whether it was mowing lawns, washing cars, or selling lemonade. And, you were lucky if you got more than 50 cents a job. Once you got to be mature enough, you might get a job as a babysitter at a whopping 2-5 bucks an hour, depending on your experience level.
Making your own toys was the way to go. Whether it was making tables for your dolls out of strawberry baskets or musical instruments out of trash.
As a teen, I finally got to use the internet, which was new and dial-up. And we only used it when needed. And, you got kicked off the internet if someone was placing a call.
When I was an older teen, the first "color" cellphone came out. It had a green back light instead of a white one. That year I got my first phone but ONLY because I had events that went on in different counties, so my parents needed a way to contact me.
Text messages were charged by the letter and phones didnt have cameras. And, most people didn't have cellphones, instead they had beepers and needed to use payphones if they wanted to respond to a message sent to their beeper while they were out of the house.
