best kids toys 3 year old image
Sundown
I'm babysitting 2 kids I have never met before next week, one is a 3 year old boy. I really don't have a lot of experience babysitting such a young kid other than my sister. I do know that he is potty trained, but will he need a reminder to go to the bathroom so he doesn't wet himself? Will he need naps? I have to watch him all day, any advice for me? I'm really nervous.
Answer
You will have to ask his parents if he will let you know when he has to use the restroom, but most three year olds will let you know. He also may not need naps, again, ask his parents. I have watched a 3 year old who took naps everyday and I currently watch a 3 year old who occaisonally takes naps when I watch her.
Make sure to play with him, feed him. Maybe plan a few arts and crafts or other activiites to do with him. Today while watching the three year old I watch we did two 4th of July crafts, played with bubbles and play-doh. Usually we just play with her toys, which can get boring after awhile. She had a lot of fun and it provided something different for her to do so that she wasn't just watching tv or playing with her toys.
If its nice outside, or warm, push him on the swing if he has one, play in the water (supervised of course) or let him ride around on a trike if he has one.

Would buying a sand table or a playhouse be a good gift for a 3 year old girl?
Rachel S
Or do you have recommendations on other outdoor toy purchases for a 3 year old? I'm looking to get something that she would play with for more than just one summer.
Answer
A sand box is ok if you don't mind her bringing all the sand in your house, or if you have a hose near by to clean her up before she comes back in the house. For my kids I made a large play house, but I made it with open walls so that I can see what goes on inside the house. Instead of walls I made kind of like a balcony fence all around it.
