What are some inexpensive outdoor toys I can get for my toddler?

mstaffy82

My 2 year old daughter is very active for her age and loves being outside. I want to get her a few things, but don't want to break the bank. So what are some things I could get for under $15 that would keep her busy. She is pretty good with sports and the like. She has a water table, a ball and a trike. She loves them all. She doesn't like swings as she hates to sit and the climbers are just to pricey. Anyone have any other ideas?

Answer
Get a mini golf club set. My 2 year old son has one and he LOVES it. Teach her to hit the ball, or just let her run around with it.

Even one of those little plastic lawn mowers.

You can find all sorts of cheap little plastic toys. Just check wal mart. Or if your Canadian, check Fields.

yo

im very excited for this upcoming black friday already especially those $200 hp laptop and hdtv at bestbuy and target. but im kinda holding back on spending big for these week's sale because christmas sale might have better deals since stores are to clear out items every end of the year. but in your experience in the previous years, which sale has the better deals? especially for electronics, kids toys, and clothes? thanks!

Answer
I think the sales are better after Christmas. Items of choice should be in stock and less demand. I have found great sales on toys and other items I bought (ridiculously under priced) and I wish I had waited. I think the Thanksgiving sales are just a way to get you in the store and after Christmas is a need to get rid of merchandise.

Im looking for some websites for my toddler girl's clothing. I want to get family pictures taken and im looking for something in particular.. The only websites i can think of are Gymboree and Old navy... Any other suggestions? Im having a blah moment! lol I know I am going to have to browse stores also but I would like to look online also since its so much easier. Thanks for the suggestions!

Answer
Anywhere I find it on sale. :P Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Wal-mart, Target, Ross, Goodwill, ARC, garage sales, even grocery stores. Especially hand-me-downs, hand them over, I love them! I walk along the 'discount' areas of every store. My husband laughs at the fact I know where they stash the discounted things, or the fact that I bought a year's supply of little church clothes for the baby who's due in a month when they put the Christmas suits on sale.

I want to start Prk skills for my 2 and 3 year old girls?

Sarah Sue

What workbooks, vetch/leapfrog toys, or teaching items from Teacher Stores (We have a Mannings)are good. Also can anyone tell me if the Your baby can read program works and If the have Hooked on Phonics for this age group. Are there any free websites to get lesson plans off of?

Answer
Lesson plans? Workbooks?

They are toddlers. Read with them, encourage them to fingerpaint and draw and have fun.

Both my kids could read before they were 3, btw. They didn't encounter a lesson plan until they were school age.

What exactly would you do if you had to babysit 2 kids and eventually you found a razor beneath their toys?

buttshaker

This girl that used to annoy me in middle school, well I ran in to her at a carnival.. I am not sure how we came in to contact again, but somehow I ended up getting her phone call.. She wanted to know if I could go to her house and babysit two children while she was at work. I have been asked to babysit before. I was a Counselor in Training at a summer camp with a bunch of little 5 year olds and had to take them up mountains and swimming and stuff. I did not however baby sit two little babies one 2 and one 3. I was fine with them.. The kid actually stopped crying for me, and apparently he never stopped crying for anyone.. The things I found odd:

I came in to the house and it looked like a bomb hit it with things in odd places every where

Toys were all over the floor

The house smelled like boogers

The house also smelled like cigarettes

The hallway in the house smelled like an uncleaned chicken coupe

The person's neighbor or something came while I was babysitting, and actually started to pick up the toys while I was with the toddlers.. There was a rasor/razor underneath all of the toys that were right under the kids

Bathroom was uncleaned... filthy, bathtub never washed, no cleaner or nothing

Floor had stains all over it and was filthy there was no working vaccume clean

Bathroom and kitchen floor were very sticky and gross

After I offered to help my friend clean (after she asked me to clean)... I found more.. Old dirty clothing and what not. She said it wasn't always like that and I could believe her.. may be if I saw it actually.
I visited her for a complete month. She spilled an alcoholic drink all of the floor after I used hot soapy water with a beah bucket and rag to clean it up.. Every night she would fill up the bathtub that was never washed ever and lay in it, drunk. She drank every night.. MM I didn't. I drove her around everywhere for whatever new welfare papers she had to get taken care of..
I unfriended her on my facebook account because I thought it was getting a little too wierd... I was very uncomfortable and felt like a homeless wretched brat.. it was aweful. It was horrible. I couldn't see myself being her acquantance. I did however clean her house in side out.. finding dog turds wrapped up in clothing and what not. Nothing too wierd... Just wierd that the floors were so sticky ew.. and the shower was never clean. I remember cleaning the toilet with something because it had such a ring around it. I think I just got up in the early morning with just a long night shirt on being so disgusted that i just cleaned it in my shirt and underwear, how gross..

So with all of that what would you do? Just stop contacts right?

Answer
It actually sounds like an anonymous call to Child Welfare Services (or whatever the agency is called in your state) would be in order. It sounds like the children are suffering from neglect, and might be endangered.

What kind of outside toys does your toddler play with?

iceyblue19

As the weather gets warmer I would like to take my son outside, he's 2 years old. I realize I'm going to have to buy some things haha. He already has a sandbox but we do not have sand for it yet. What does your toddler enjoy doing/playing with outside?

Answer
Make sure you get a bunch of fun sand toys to go with the sand box. It keeps my 4 yr old and her friends entertained for hours. Other toys that are popular with all the little ones:

Sidewalk chalk
Bubbles
Pool
Waterslide
Scooter
electric ATV
Tricycle
Bicycle
Any type of sport...basketball, soccer ball, Tball, etc.
Flying kites
Jumprope
Hopscotch
Tent and tunnel sets
Playground equipment (slides, playhouse, etc)
See Saw
Swingset and tire swing
Trampoline

We have them all, and they regularly get used. Needless to say we spend the summer, spring, and fall mostly outdoors

I'm looking for a tote for all my kids pool/beach toys. I want the kind that looks like a basket, but is plastic and flexible and has handles. Sometimes they sell them prefilled with beach toys. I have only been able to find very small versions of this, but I want a big one. Any suggestions??

Can a girl lose her virginity by having sex with something else besides a penis? Like a pool toy or something?

Tori H

I don't really think that that's possible, but I heard a rumor about a girl in my school who stuck a squish pool toy up her vagina and got pregnant! And the pool toy was brand new. Could this be possible?

Answer
Are you 10 or something of course not. Kids like you shouldn't talk about things like this anyway

What non toxic paints are available in Australia?

Edward Bal

I have to build a toy train (mallard 4-6-2) for a high school Tech studies project and need to find a company that makes a non-toxic, kid-safe, blue paint that I can buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Try Spotlight. I was in there yesterday and they had a range of kid's paints in all colours of the rainbow. They had Disney characters on the tubes (sorry I can't remember the name of them) and I am sure they would be non-toxic if they have been made for kids. They hang by their caps on a rack.

What are some easy things a kid could build with common house hold items?

Bradon C

My son loves to build things but he dosent like help from anyone and he wants to build something easy that only uses common house hold items it dosent matter what it is if there are any internet sites plz post them for me to look at

Answer
Tell him to search the house first for unused/unwanted items and collect the all and make a list. Then go on the internet with him and enter the 'name of the item' and 'recycle' or 'craft'. Then when he finds something that interests him, print out the instructions (don't forget to turn that paper over and use the other side when you print out the next project, makes for a great lesson on not wasting) and let him go to town.

Also, get him a couple of boxes from the grocer. Have him decorate them. One for charity, one for items to use to make things and one for items he has made that he can give as gifts.

You will find that there are more crafts and toys to make than you have time. For example, you can make ornaments out of used light bulbs, ornaments out of old cd's or those free aol ones you get in the mail.

Having a place to put things he can use for future projects saves you a mess in his room. And saves on the environment. And as a bonus, he can not only make toys, he can make gifts for Christmas and have the joy of making someone happy.

Q. I want some material things but i also want my father to get a job aswell as my older brother who has been without a job for 8 months because of the bad economy. I also want to feed the homeless and give toys to kids who aren't as fortunate as I am to be getting presents for christmas!

So tell me what you want for Christmas!
Doesn't matter what it is!

Whoever's list is my favorite will get the ten points and a special surprise!

Answer
I want for everyone to be happy & enjoy their holidays. It's great that you want to give to others. I participated in the Angel Tree program myself & bought my child a book, couple of board games, outfit, & backpack. I also try to donate to the Salvation Army every time I approach a red bucket. It feels awesome knowing that it benefits to someone in need. :)

Of course, there's nothing wrong with wishing for materialistic things as well (unless it becomes an obsession). I already know nearly everything I'm receiving (three books, four DVDs, a DVD set, some Bath & Body Works stuff, 2010 calendar, etc.), but there is still $30 left in the budget my parents set for me. I think I'm going to ask for The Beatles Trivial Pursuit, which is $25 on Amazon. I'll just tell them to get me whatever with the leftover $5.

Happy holidays! =) Please forgive my long answer, haha.

Are there going to be any toys giveaways for christmas 2010 ?

lonnie

I will like to know of all the places to sign up to receive toy giveaways for my kids this christmas. because im out off work and tring to do the best i can with all the bill and rent

Answer
There are toy giveaways every year in our town. Check out organizations online like "Angel Tree" and "Toys for Tots" - I'm sure they will have information on how you can get on their lists. I always give to those organizations - I know what it felt like as a kid to not have anything for Christmas sometimes. I hope you can get in touch with them. Good luck and whatever happens, a Merry Christmas to you and your family. :)

Here is the Toys for Tots website - if you click on where it says "Request Toys" it will let you find a place to request in your area:
http://toysfortots.org/

And here is information for the Angel Tree organization - you may want to get in contact with your local Salvation Army to find out more:

What kind of car should I get?

top kids gadgets 2012
on The Best Kids Gadgets and Toys for 2012 -2013
top kids gadgets 2012 image

ScorpioChi

So, my parents are getting me a car. With that being said, I do work and I will be paying the car payments including for gas and car mechanical failures. I am 16 and this is NOT my first car. Yes, my parents don't mind spending money, etc. on me obviously and I was just wondering from your opinion - what kind of car I should get or what do you think is better.

*NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT HOW YOU SAY RICH KID AND PARENTS WHO WILL DO ANYTHING FOR THEIR KID, ETC. THAT'S VERY RUDE!* (Yes, I said it in all caps haha!)

I was looking at these cars:
2012 Chevy Volt
2012 Hyundai Tucson
2012 Hyundai Sonata
2012 Cadillac SRX
2012 BMW X6M
2012 Porsche Cayenne
2012 Porsche Panamera
2011 BMW M3
2012 Mercedes Benz CLS 63 AMG
2012 Lexus IS F

MY OPINION:
I have close enough in money to afford a Porsche Panamera & Porsche Cayenne because I have been modeling and acting and I have been saving up with that money since I was 10 when I started. I still do modeling and acting but, little of it now since booking have been slow so I got myself a job at a local restaurant and at a lawyers office. I am home schooled so I have enough time to work, etc.

HERE'S WHERE YOU COME IN:
For value and performance overall, especially for a car that I would like to keep for years from now, what car should I get?

I KNOW: You are going to say also, what is she doing driving a high performance, luxury or everyday car if she doesn't even know how to drive and she is just 16. In my state, the driving age is 14. I have never been involved in a car accident, never caused one and have never gotten any points taken off my license. I know how distracting it is to have friends in the car as my friend has died from that fatal accident but, I honestly don't drive with friends in the car. I only drive with family members in the car or on my own. No music. Just listening to that good old sound of car horns and the environment. (:

From your point of view, like I said, which is better? Please no negativity. Just answers. I know someone is going to put something negative on this post but, I did ask for an answer. I did not however ask for a mean one.

I hope you reply with what you think! Thanks! (:

*p.s. I know that I will have to go to driving school if I wanted to drive a high performance vehicle to know how to control the car, etc.* #JustSaying. (:
@mechanic_girl_C: Thanks for responding! (: I'll keep the Hyundai's in mind. ^_^
@iwastypingthat: Yes. No music seriously. (: Thanks for responding also! ^_^ I'll keep what you mentioned in mind about resale and safety with those cars.
@Raff: Thanks for responding! (: Ouch! That's off of my list for good. Haha yes, I do actually. ^_^
@apeweek: I've read through the information given on the volt and yes, it's reliable & very safe, etc. but I have come to the conclusion to just leave the volt off of my list. I did go down to test drive the Volt today and it's not really for me. It's safe, has the features but it also balls down to how much room is in the vehicle. It's great for someone who wants something small but I like to have a more space. (:
@GM Customer Svc: Thanks for the information on the SRX. (:

Answer
You should get a Chevy Volt. I'm sure this will make many readers scream, but hear me out. There is independent support for this position.
*
Consumers Reports has the Volt as one of their "recommended" cars. In fact the Volt is the ONLY recommended American car in the small car category. See link:
*
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/types/new-models-by-category.htm
*
The Volt in fact came in first place - beating every other car Consumer Reports tracks - in their Buyer Satisfaction survey. See link:
*
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-57334967-48/chevy-volt-scores-highest-satisfaction-rating-in-consumer-reports-survey/7
*
It also aced their first year reliability rankings. Note that Consumer Reports did not initially like the Volt - they trashed it in an article after the car first came out. But after testing it for a few months, they radically changed their opinion. This is the key - test drive one and see for yourself.
*
Volt got top 5-star scores in safety testing from both NHTSA and the Insurance Institute - see link (yes, recent "Volt fire" stories are sheer nonsense):
*
http://green.autoblog.com/2011/06/03/chevy-volt-earns-five-star-nhtsa-crash-rating-w-videos/
And
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/driveon/post/2011/04/chevy-voly-nissan-leaf-crash-test-iihs-top-safety-pick/1
*
The Volt's little secret is that this is a wickedly fun-to-drive car, great acceleration, full of technological gadgets, and it attracts a lot of attention. Driving past gas stations is fun, too.
*
Plus - it's not even as expensive as most people assume. Depending on your driving pattern - and taking into account that electricity is much cheaper than gasoline - the total cost of ownership could even be cheaper than a comparable car. Below is a spreadsheet where you can input your own driving needs and see what kind of car is cheapest to drive:
*
http://www.squidoo.com/a-free-calculator-for-economy-hybrid-and-electric-cars
*
Yes, I own one. It's the best car I have ever owned. If you go with a Volt, be prepared for arguments with everybody. Do your research so you can answer your critics. This is a great car, the car of the future.

What can I get my family for Xmas?

Q. Dad: Likes golf, can't golf due to medical conditions, "doesn't watch TV or movies anymore" when I recommended "Breaking Bad" though he mentioned John Wayne DVD set someone gave him for his birthday.

Mom: reads trashy generic novels she buys randomly at book store, tries to dress nicely

Wife: Doesn't do much, just wants to go home, but we just moved there and then back last summer because it was so awful, at least for me and our son. She has iPod, iPod Touch, Kindle Fire, and laptop

Under 10 Son: Only likes video games which we limit greatly and he's limited by the 2006 laptop he uses. No consoles or handhelds or phones!
A "hamper", where you put dirty laundry?

Answer
How about any of these to think about for any of your family members. You don't have to any get of them as a gift IF you don't want to, but it might give you ideas or something comes to mind.

I bought her a visible horse for her last Christmas. It was her FAVORITE present! I want to encourage her dream. Any parent, or grandparents, out there who have such a child, or similar yet with a different aim, Please advise us where to look on the web. Thank You!

Answer
I guess the best website would be animalplanet.com to look for presents. Also, look at the humane society and of course amazon.com.

I'm an avid animal lover. I have 2 dogs and 5 guinea pigs! I grew up on a farm and wanted to become a vet assistant after high school but couldn't find a school in rural PA.

Nick Forth

I really really want a rabbit and i am trying to convince my mom if i can get one. Shes not the fondest of any animal but i am. I love them. I just need some advice or tips to help me convince her.

Answer
I answer a lot of questions about 'How to convince my mom to let me get a rabbit' and I've done it three times so I'd say I have some good tips. Although I do have to say rabbits are a lot of work and require a lot of attention and do better in pairs. They are easier to care for that way because they don't require so much of your attention and they are happier. So since I've answered this question so many times I like to just copy and paste (MY OWN WRITING!) the same thing... Its just easier than typing it all out again, so here is a little segment I've written on convinceing your mom!

I have to say that no matter how much research you do before you get a rabbit, they are still very hard to care for and require a lot of attention and care. I have five cats and I think that rabbits are much harder to care for then my cats. I have a rabbit care channel on YouTube and I am going to post a link to my rabbit care videos part one and part two below. Please check them out. They have everything you need to know about rabbits. I will also suggest that you order Rabbits USA 2012 magazine. It has lots of information about rabbits that you can't get anywhere else. (I suppose you could find it on the internet but the money the magazine costs is worth it) I even would say that the magazine has better information that most rabbit informational care books have.

Now I have to say, these videos are from a while ago and are pretty bad quality but they still have all the right information.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Rabbits USA 2012:
http://www.amazon.com/Small-Animal-Channâ¦

As for convincing your mom I would say, tell her how much you want a rabbit (Or 2...) Whenever you and your mom are talking, spit out a fact about rabbits or rabbit care. Show her how much you know. Show her this post and how much you care. Bring her to the shelter just to look at the rabbits. Try and get her to like them. Make her hold him and pet them. Save up your money so you can help pay for everything (food, cage, bedding, toys, ect.)

I convinced my mom to let me get my first rabbit by keeping the house clean for a week, maybe do extra chores. But don't beg, that always makes parents mad.

Write a book about rabbit care or make a video or slide show. Use your talents to create something showing how much you care about rabbits. If you like to draw, make a comic strip ect.

All you can really do is keep telling her facts about rabbits. Talk to her about rabbits or if you have a specific rabbit in mind, keep telling your mom things and silly quirks or traits about that rabbit. Show her pictures of rabbits and tell her how sweet they are. Something that helped me was saying it would prepare me for having kids one day. But the thing I would suggest the most is... Make a booklet or something. Somewhere around ten pages but it should be very informative. Present it to her and say "I would like you to think about letting me get a pet rabbit. I have made this book to show you how much I have learned about rabbits and how much I care" Give her a few days to think about it and show her pictures of rabbits. Then ask her if you could just go look them in a shelter or at the breeder. Bring the bunnies a home made toy or something. Make your mom pet them and hold them. Go home without one no matter what and keep spitting out facts about rabbits. Soon enough she will either say no or yes. If she says no, I understand it is sad, but just except it and stop saying facts. I would maybe ask once more. "mom, I know you don't really want a rabbit, but I really love them. I would like to have one. I know you said no before, but I want you to think about it once more. If you really don't want one, then I respect your decision, but please think about it just once more." and if she says yes, then great! YaY!

Good luck, I hope she lets you.

I've got dirty dishes piled up in the kitchen, laundry to be folded on the couch, dirty laundry to be washed, kids toys (3 yr old and 18 month) scattered through out the house, floors need mopping... and i'm sitting here feeling like crying because i'm worrying about other things like money, moving country and my weight... I know I just need to just do it but I don't know where to start... how can I get motivated?

Answer
i feel your pain!!! im a mother of three ages 8,3, and 1. i work four days a week and my hubby is ALWAYS working. hes a neat freak and is usually making comments about the house and usually i dont care. i clean as much as i can when i have the time or energy during the day. then after the kids are asleep i sit and relax for about an hour then i do dishes or whatever needs to be done. fold the luandry as u sit on the couch. grab a "toy box" and load all the kids toys at once. you dont need to do it all at once!! once you see the results youll feel better i always do!! good luck and dont worry.....with kids your house will always be a mess

What are some gret toys for a almost 18 month old?

Amber j

what are some big toys for a almost 18 month old
She has ALOT small toys and she has a lot of musical toys. The only real big toy is a sit, and bounce turtle. Anything? Thanks!

Answer
She needs a push and ride toy.

That is really important and a huge hit for an 18 month old, and they can also keep riding it at age 2. Get one that makes sounds. We have a spiderman truck, but for girls there is a little mermaid one I see a lot. They can press and pull on a lot of things to make noise. There are other models, but that one is a really big hit with kids.

There are lots of other toys to get, simple puzzles, blocks, stacking rings, shape sorters (a really good one) a magnetic board and gears / letters and numbers, basic art supplies, cars, trucks, trains, dolls, stuffed animals.

Does your toddler have them daily?
Or are you one of those lucky parents were your toddler is very well behaved and rarely throws a fit?

If you have a tantrum story your toddler ever had in public I would like to hear it.

Answer
My oldest was actually pretty well behaved and rarely ever had one. Maybe a small meltdown once a week-which I certainly wasn't complaining about ;) When my second son came along, he had a few more. He's three right now and he'll have off days sometimes and he'll throw 3 in one day, then sometimes he'll go a week without any. It just depends.

My three year old had a pretty bad one in a Target a few months back..it wasn't pretty! He got it into his head that mommy would buy him every toy he wanted, and when I didn't, he got upset. Really upset. My 5 year old was with me as well and he tried to help calm him down, but he was so fired up. He threw himself on the ground and refused to get up. I got some funny stares, but oh well ;) I finally just told him it's time to get up and go or else we wouldn't be going for ice cream later. He was still upset, but we pulled himself together and we left the store. It was pretty embarrassing, but...stuff happens-I got through it! lol

I am looking for toys for my soon to be 2 year old twins. They don' t play with very many things and I was wondering if any mom's or dad's have any suggestions.
Sorry - they are b/g twins. I should have said that.

Answer
Well, I'll write this for both boys & girls...and assume they share. All of these are really fun and have occupied my kids or my friend's kids for a while.

Wheely Bugs - These are adorable soft ride on toys. They are a huge hit with kids 2+ years old. Gender neutral ones are the bee and cow.
http://www.babyearth.com/prince-lionheart-wheely-bug-small.html

Busy Go & Grow Giraffe - Another ride on toy that is a great option for toddlers.
http://www.babyearth.com/playskool-busy-go-grow-giraffe.html

Monte Carlo Car - One more ride on option. This is the ultra-sporty car for a boy and the same car for a girl but it's pink with flowers.

GIRLhttp://www.babyearth.com/lc-creations-ride-on-flower-car.html

Mega Maze - My kids love to play in this and they really use their imaginations. It's great if you have room for it. Toy says for ages 3+ but smaller kids can play with it too.
http://www.babyearth.com/active-edge-mega-maze.html

Monster Bowling! This is a great toy for twins because they can take turns and play with it together. It's plush so it's pretty safe too. Kids think these little monsters are very funny.

Best of luck!

How soon do you think it's cool to get new puppies with toddlers at home?

Scot G

We have 3 month old twin girls at home. Out last dog (incredible lab / golden mix) died about 8 months ago, and we're wondering how soon it would be safe to get a new puppy or two with our kiddies being as old as they are. We we're thinking to wait at least a year or so, but would certainly like to get a dog or two as soon as we can!

Answer
i myself would not get a puppy or 2 puppies with the kids at this young of an age to a puppy they would be cew toys puppies know no better i would wait tell they are older. i just had my son 23 days ago and a puppy in my home is far from comming been there did that with my daughter and it was hell when the baby started tocrawl the puppy was on her like flies on poo. this is your choice so take time and dont rush into it. also my thought is your have twins you have your hands full enough with them and should not add the stress of a puppy traing to your daily life.

Everything from the toys to the kind of carpet and paint. I also really need some good online sources for this.

Answer
Well, the sites below are a start...One of the fav Dr Offices for my Son had 3-4-5 foot size plywood cutouts in bright colors lining the walls, giraffe, pink elephant, zebra etc. In one large corner was a carpet covered wooden physical play area with large holes and ramps for the kids to crawl in and out of. The top platform was about 4 ft high by about 6 ft wide for a sitting area, when they reached the top. Easy enough for the parent to get their kid. Had wide stairs along the wall side for toddlers to climb to the top with a small railing a parent could reach over. In another corner was a child sized table with books and crayons to keep the minds and hands occupied. Toys were various for different ages in large containers and baskets. Seems like if we had to wait for an hour or longer for the Doctor to catch up on his appointments the time went by very quickly. AND big EYE signs posted that the parents were responsible to keep an eye on their children, several of these would be appropiate.....Commercial bright colored carpet with extra padding in the play area for sure, Primary colors in 6-8" stripes horizonal above the solid grey walls where the animal cut outs are and add some fun stuff in the ceiling, that is always forgotton and left boring.....Good Luck (How fun to do this)

how do you get your inspiration into writing when you take care of two kids during the day and work at night?

Jean Luc P

ive got enough creativity, inspiration and ambition, but i also dont want to neglect my kids to write. any tips you can give me maybe on time management or something?

also what can i do to get my name and my work out there?

Answer
I've been wondering that myself...All I can think about is writing my story - it keeps me up at night, wakes me up in the morning and keeps me going throughout the day. But by the time I get home from work and put the baby to bed...the day takes it's toll, I'm exhausted. Sometimes I just can't shut it off...I end up burning the midnight oil, writing until 2:00am then waking up at 6:00...When I was first laying down the outline of the story I would take my lap top to whichever room I was playing w/ the baby in. I would type until he got bored with his toys and started bugging me to play with him - then I would just shut it off and put it away for later. If an idea hit me I would jot it down in my notepad and write it in on the computer later after he went to sleep. I would also take my portable hard drive to which I saved the story and write during my lunch breaks. My husband was kind enough to give me some down time and I would use every minute of it to write - which is why the house looks like a tornado hit it and I have nothing to wear because shopping & cleaning just didn't seem that important...Something's got to give...you can't do everything. Use the time when you're not feeling too inspired or when you've hit a block to clean and take care of the every day stuff. And get your kids to enjoy some more independent activities, depending on their age, like drawing, reading, playing games by themselves...Good luck.

I am looking for some toys that will keep my kids entertained and will last a long time. For kids ages 5-8. I am tired of buying my kids toys only to have them broken or torn up the same day. I am looking for toys that can really last and are fun. Any suggestions welcome!

Answer
I bought my little brothers Snap Circuits and they loved it (it can also be for girls). I got this one because it's pretty stimulating and versatile. Their reviews on Amazon are just unbelievable too, I've never seen so many reviews and still have a 5/5 stars... The only thing though, is that you have to teach your kids to make sure to put things away properly, which can be a good exercise for them for their skills anyway.

Another game that is super popular is the Qwirkle Board Game. Since you have a couple of kids, it's a great board game for everyone to partake in. May be it gets a little challenging for the younger ones but it's a great stimulating game that will help your kids' critical thinking and analytical skills (just like the circuits game). On top of that, the parts of this game are pretty durable.

Another of the newer games out there that's pretty popular among people of all ages is the Angry Birds game. It's just like the one you play on your phone but you get to set it up so it's a lot more fun. This one also has amazing reviews.

My boyfriend gave my kids new toys and clothes today and he had to have paid alot considering all he gave them. My ex, who is their dad got mad about it and said he didn't like him buying things for his kids. I don't get what the big deal is or why he would get so mad about it. I don't see anything wrong with someone giving my kids nice presents so I don't see why he's acting like a baby over it. What's so wrong with it? Am I missing something here?

Answer
The first thing that comes to my mind is he is forming an attachement to them and they are forming an attachment to him.

While that is good and all what happens if this relationship doesn't work out? Not only you will be heart broken but so were they.

My aunt was married 8 time when I was a kid. I saw my cousin get attached to each of these men plus many others she dated. It broke her heart each time a man would leave her and her mom.

While you don't have 8 men coming in and out of your life you do have this one. You are bringing him into the lives of your children too. So I hope this is a very serious committed relationship.

Shes not really into stupid kid toys or board games or anything like that. shes really funny, outgoing, sweet and hangs out with me (who is 15) so shes kind of mature and doesn't want boring stuff. and i don't really want to get her a gift card or money because that's to original and she gets that from allot of people. i need something that's not to expensive, and is special. Please help.

Which sale has the better deals for this year 2009, the day after thanksgiving or day after christmas day?

yo

im very excited for this upcoming black friday already especially those $200 hp laptop and hdtv at bestbuy and target. but im kinda holding back on spending big for these week's sale because christmas sale might have better deals since stores are to clear out items every end of the year. but in your experience in the previous years, which sale has the better deals? especially for electronics, kids toys, and clothes? thanks!

What are some fun crazy things to put on a beach scavenger hunt list?

skyistheli

I want some things that are going to be fun and entertaining to do on the beach. I'm 16 by the way. There are also going to be kids there, so they have to be appropriate.

Answer
Buy some regular sacks of skittles (like 5) and bury them partly in the sand, with one of the corners sticking out of the sand.
(you can put sticky notes on the skittles bags and write down a clue. of that's what kind of scavenger hunt it is. )
You can also secretly get a kid to join in a secret thing with you, and you can bury most of him in the sand, but he can burst out of the sand- next to the first given item.
You can make up a sound que like a cough and whistle.
It scares the piss out of the victim and makes it more Fun.
try burying cheap pool toys/beach toys (still in the packaging-but bring scissors so they can use them after!) in the sand with another corner out, like the skittles.

Here are some more things to put in the sand/in places-

Beach ball
squirt gun ( fill it up for instant crossfires)
lollipops (individual packaged)
5 dollar bill wrapped around it self. ( remember to map them, you don't want to leave those there! D: )
gag peanut butter/candy jar( with the worms that shoot out )
5 dollar sandals.
a paper card with a coupon on it. (one free hug from any scavenger/ one hint/ activity choice/etc. )
cheap waterproof disposable cameras.(for whoever is out of state, or just loves to snippity snap funny things)
GRAND PRIZE OPTIONS :DDD
20 dollar bill wrapped around itself/in a fake chest
Sack of candy
A set of foam footballs/ whiffleball set/ bachii ball set / other game set for everyone.

How can i get my 5 and 7 year old to listen and not get in trouble?

best kids toys 7 years image

Mommy2BeOf

What is the most effective way to get a 5 and 7 year old to do what they are told to do the first time? I have to repeat myself at least 5 times before they get the hint while raising my voice. They seem to seek out trouble instead of avoid it because they know the discipline they receive will not be as harsh as it should be. What is the best way to get them to listen and what is the best punishment if they don't? They are both boys.

Answer
I am guessing these aren't your kids if they are not your kids than put them in time out for 5 min for the 5 year old and 7 min for the 7 year if they are your kids punish them by taking toys away, putting them in time out, or a good old fashioned spanking would work.

Which is the best age for a kid to start to learn music in a more formal way?

I want my kids to learn to play a musical instrument. I always have heard that the earliest the kid starts is the better; my kids are 3, 4 and 7 years old. I want to hear personal experiences too, thanks!!!
My 4 and 7 years old kids had been asking me for musical instruments, however, my 3 years old boy has not show yet any interest in music but I would like him to learn something. Should I push him a little or wait some more?

Answer
The recorder is usually an easy instrument for child to learn to play because it isnât difficult for small hands to handle. Many toy stores sell very inexpensive recorders but I would suggest you invest a little money because the sound is far superior. We got a very nice recorder from Courtly Music for less than $30.00. My daughter took private recorder lessons for 4 years starting when she was 7 years old. Originally the plan was she would only take recorder lessons for about 1 to 2 years and then switch to the flute but she liked her teacher and so she stayed with it a bit longer. She did eventually play the flute in the school band and for a time was playing 2 instruments.

I started taking piano lessons when I was 7 years old but I beleive children can start earlier; it just depends on their patience and interest level.

No matter what instrument your child decides to play the most important thing is finding a good teacher. A teacher who can develop good rapport which your child is paramount. If your child does not like and respect the teacher then you are wasteing your time and money.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
