How many people die a year from crininals in indiana due to guns?

??
help add on to this please. Corrections and add ons. Please... I have this report due Tuesday and I have to present this. Im con for gun control.

Hello, my name is Kaleigh Ray and I am against the resolution. Which is, currently in Indiana firearms do not need to be registered, and you do not need a permit to purchase one. You do need a permit to purchase a handgun.
There have been so many deaths due to guns, some accidental, some not. Even if it’s the one “who’s using the gun” it doesn’t matter. A lot of the excuses used are that it depends on the person who has the gun in his or her hand, but we wouldn’t have to worry if there were more laws against gun control. There will still be shootings, but why not take more charge and stop more deaths while we can?
Endangering children
-In 2010 Indiana had the 18th-highest rate of deaths from the use of guns among children and teens at age 19 and under. Having more laws from being able to purchase a hand gun freely helps prevent situations like this from happening.
-Over the years there have been a lot of incidents endangering children due to the use of guns. A lot of the accidents have occurred, from kids mistaking guns for toys. More than 500 children die annually from accidental gun shots. “Americans own 200 million firearms, and 35 percent of homes contain at least one gun. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studied and found out that more than 1.7 million children live in homes with loaded and unlocked guns.” Those who own guns need to be more accountable for keeping them out of children and others hands.
-

High Rate of Gun related Crime
-“More than 30,000 U.S men, women, and children die each year from gunshot wounds, the highest homicide rate from guns in the world. Of those 30,000 deaths only about 1,500 are due to accidental shootings.”
-

More background checks
-Having more background checks will help us have more with security. We will still be able to use them, but will be more strict to who we sell them too.
is anyone nice enough to add more in my paragraphs && help correct?? :)

Answer
16 thousand of those deaths are due to suicide. No one killed another person in those. That leaves about 14 thousand deaths a year due to gun violence. Of those 14K deaths, 9 thousand were gang or drug related and most was black on black violence. Blacks are 13% of the population but are 48% of the inmates in jail for murder. Hispanics, 14% of the population, not counting illegals, make up another 22% of the population in jail for murder. So, 71% of violent murders are committed by 27% of the population. If you remove those ethnic groups from the mix, we have one of the lowest gun violence rates of any country, and the lowest of any country that guarantees that citizens can own firearms, both pistols and rifles.
Fact, over 800,000 known, and an estimated 1 million additional violent crimes were stopped by armed citizens. Doctors kill almost 80,000 a year from medical mistakes. Fact; Legal prescription drugs kill almost 200,000 people a year. Fact: you are 15 times more likely to be killed by a doctor than a gun and 40 times more likely to die from taking a prescription drug than by a gun. Watch the below video.
Are you against prescription drugs? Are you against doctors? do you think they should be banned? Car accidents kill more children year than guns, should they be banned?

How much will these Star Wars action figures be worth in the future?

Smarty Pan

I have been collecting Star Wars Vintage Collection (2010-2011) Star Wars action figures because the cards and figures are awesome. Some of these are already very popular and sell for way over retail prices. How much do you think these figures might be worth in 5 years if kept well and not opened.

Answer
The thing with collectibles is you simply never know. It depends on many factors, here are just a few:

- Units in series (units produced)
- Quality of product
- Demand (this fluctuates over time, in 40 years another 3 movies might come out, making these worth way way more at that time)
- Collectibility (do they come with accessories? toys with accessories are worth far more down the road, kids tend to lose them making complete units rare)

Also, 5 years isn't a timeframe to consider for value, if they're going to have value, you're looking minimum 10 years, but usually closer to 20+ (especially with Star Wars toys, which historically go up and down in price based on the current culture around the movies).

What are some good learning toys to buy a toddler for Christmas?

My son is 18 months old and I am not sure what to get him other than what I already have. I wanted to get him something specifically aimed at learning, not just fun time.

Answer
It may sound weird, but at this age - EVERYTHING is a learning toy. Your child will be able to learn from anything. Kids are sponges at this age and absorb everything from how something feels, to the noise it makes, to the way it moves, etc.

My son always loved things with wheels. He would flip cars over just to play with the wheels - especially ones that you could pull back, and then they'd go forward on their own. You could see the excitement in his face when he figured out how to do this on his own. =)

I've read articles that said constantly giving your baby toys that are teaching, and learning things can actually be detrimental. They say it limits a child's imagination. If a toy is telling your child that something is a bear.. then it's a bear. Nothing more. It's not a magical bear with super powers.. or a bear that loves to eat vanilla pudding.. it's just a bear.

My son does have some learning toys, but I've found he doesn't like them that much. (He likes cause and effect toys like keyboards/pianos.. those pop a shape things, etc where you have to do something to make something happen)

Here's a list of the top 5 educational toddler toys :

Does anybody have any tips for babysitting for an infant?

meg [arthu

I've got a part time job for when I go to Canada babysitting a 4 month old boy. I've had babysitting experience before but for no kids under the age of 18 months. Obviously, this is quite different because he's a lot younger and I can't just leave him to play with his toys like I can do with older kids. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Can you give me some tips?

Answer
You are certainly right- you can't leave a 4 month old alone! Never leave babies unattended. They'll fall over when you think they won't/can't, etc.! You can talk to them, play with age-appropriate toys with them, sing/lullabys, bath time is enjoyable for them, even reading to them at that young age is recommeneded and my daughter seemed to enjoy it! You can go for walks in the stroller if the weather is nice enough, or just bundle baby up well if it's a bit cold. Also babies like activity centers, jumpers, exersaucers at this age. Baby will be rolling around that age and soon enough, starting to sit up and crawl which is a fun, fun time.

What are some fun activities to do with 5 and 8 year old boys?

0149230141

I'm nannying two boys, 5 and 8, for the summer and am already running out of things to do with them to get them away from playing computer games and watching tv. I'm used to babysitting younger kids, but older ones are definitely proving a challenge for me!

Answer
-If there is a yard to play in, break out the sprinkler or small kiddie pool, Get some cups, boats etc. to put in the pool. Have a "Car wash" and soap up the ride toys with some sponges and a bucket full of soapy water.
-If there is a driveway, get some chalk and let them draw.
-What kind of computer games do they like or tv shows? Get their imagination going and let them pretend to be the characters from the show. For example, If they like Mario Brothers they can pretend to be Mario and Luigi
-Build a Fort
-Play Spy
-Play Red Light Green light, Hide and go seek
-Go on a scavenger hunt for things, like stop signs, blue cars, a dog etc
-Rainy day? fill the sink and let them play with water, cups etc
-Make some home made play dough
-Make a crown, mask etc.
-Get some shaving creme and put it on a cutting board, have them create a picture
-Play some board games
-Get a ball and play some soccer, basketball etc
-Is there a sandbox? make some sandcastles

The ideas are endless!! Enjoy and have fun!

My kids, 9 an 7 and I are going it alone, without dad, for the first time on an airplane. The flight is about six hours. I want to make sure they are busy during the flight. Any fun games I can print out or puzzles I can take along to keep them from annoying everyone around us??

Answer
That's so wonderful of you to think ahead like this because many mothers don't! I've experienced some of the most nightmarish flights because of those mothers too!

Will they have homework to complete? If so, then they could do that. Coloring books? Toys R Us usually has an abundance of travel games. Just make sure they don't have annoying noises.

What are the current fashion trends and popular toys for younger girls in South Korea, ages 8- 12?

Q. We are traveling in August to South Korea to pick up our adopted son. We want to take gifts for the foster family. They have an 8 year old girl and an 11 year old boy. Are there any particular items from America that they would really love? Maybe a brand or a certain item that is hard to get there?

Answer
usually things that are made in the usa are considered popular in korea because they are pretty westernized here. however, for younger kids you can pretty much pick up anything from toys 'r' us. seriously.

What to do if a toddler girl uses her baby born potty not for doll?

ilea_klepk

She uses it for toys, in sand, in bathroom for water. Sometimes she prepares doll meal in it or plays when it's empty.

Answer
I don't see what's wrong with that. It's a doll potty, not one she actually uses to pee in. It's not really the way the toy is intended, but what's the harm in creativity?

It tends to be very hot in the summers in AZ, does anyone have any good places to take a 2 year old so we can get out of the house. Any place would be great, thanks.

Answer
Makutu's Island, maybe - 2 is a little young but there is a toddler area that can be fun if you go when it is not crowded. There are a couple of indoor play villages (miniature towns), Kids Town Play Center in Tempe has smaller buildings good for crawlers and toddler sizes and Imagination Avenue in North Phoenix has larger buildings that 6-year olds can walk into, toddler cars, a fenced area with toddler toys for really little ones, and a bouncer. Toy Town is in Ahwatukee but only open till like 2pm, never been personally.

You might check out Jeepers in Mesa. There are rides (indoor) like a merry go round, mini airplanes, mini spinning cups, a play house and toddler climbing area, and a sand box. If your little one is closer to 3, you might try miniature golf, there is a new indoor place on 32nd & Greenway called Mini Golf Paradise. Splash Playground at Tempe Beach Park is outdoor but a good summer activity for little ones. The Wave Pool at Kiwani's Recreation Center could also be fun if you are willing to go in the water as well.

The Mesa Museum for Youth is great for young kids, a museum with things meant to be touched and a special area just for those under 5. See their website for possible classes your child can participate in as well. Nearby is the Mesa Southwest Museum if your little one is into dinosaurs.

The library is always a fun free indoor family activity, good chance to spend some time together. Most Phoenix libraries have children's areas where it is okay to make some noise and there are toys as well as books, the Cholla library near Metrocenter is great for this and free events and storytimes or puppet shows as well (see website).

If your child can sit still for 20-30 minutes, the Great Arizona Puppet Theater does shows on the weekends for children usually based on fairy tales. For a fee, you could enroll in some classes at the community centers or private locations like dance or art or gymnastics. Most of the malls have free play areas for little kids now too. The one at Fiesta Mall and Arrowhead Mall are both good.

There are a few websites that list activities, play groups, and seasonal events you can check as well.

What exactly would you do if you had to babysit 2 kids and eventually you found a razor beneath their toys?

buttshaker

This girl that used to annoy me in middle school, well I ran in to her at a carnival.. I am not sure how we came in to contact again, but somehow I ended up getting her phone call.. She wanted to know if I could go to her house and babysit two children while she was at work. I have been asked to babysit before. I was a Counselor in Training at a summer camp with a bunch of little 5 year olds and had to take them up mountains and swimming and stuff. I did not however baby sit two little babies one 2 and one 3. I was fine with them.. The kid actually stopped crying for me, and apparently he never stopped crying for anyone.. The things I found odd:

I came in to the house and it looked like a bomb hit it with things in odd places every where

Toys were all over the floor

The house smelled like boogers

The house also smelled like cigarettes

The hallway in the house smelled like an uncleaned chicken coupe

The person's neighbor or something came while I was babysitting, and actually started to pick up the toys while I was with the toddlers.. There was a rasor/razor underneath all of the toys that were right under the kids

Bathroom was uncleaned... filthy, bathtub never washed, no cleaner or nothing

Floor had stains all over it and was filthy there was no working vaccume clean

Bathroom and kitchen floor were very sticky and gross

After I offered to help my friend clean (after she asked me to clean)... I found more.. Old dirty clothing and what not. She said it wasn't always like that and I could believe her.. may be if I saw it actually.
I visited her for a complete month. She spilled an alcoholic drink all of the floor after I used hot soapy water with a beah bucket and rag to clean it up.. Every night she would fill up the bathtub that was never washed ever and lay in it, drunk. She drank every night.. MM I didn't. I drove her around everywhere for whatever new welfare papers she had to get taken care of..
I unfriended her on my facebook account because I thought it was getting a little too wierd... I was very uncomfortable and felt like a homeless wretched brat.. it was aweful. It was horrible. I couldn't see myself being her acquantance. I did however clean her house in side out.. finding dog turds wrapped up in clothing and what not. Nothing too wierd... Just wierd that the floors were so sticky ew.. and the shower was never clean. I remember cleaning the toilet with something because it had such a ring around it. I think I just got up in the early morning with just a long night shirt on being so disgusted that i just cleaned it in my shirt and underwear, how gross..

So with all of that what would you do? Just stop contacts right?

Answer
It actually sounds like an anonymous call to Child Welfare Services (or whatever the agency is called in your state) would be in order. It sounds like the children are suffering from neglect, and might be endangered.

How much allowance should an 8 year old, a 10 year old, and a 12 year old get?

Sara

I have three kids, two boys ages 8 and 10, and a 12 year old daughter. They do chores, help out, they're good kids. They're always asking for money or asking me to buy them candy or toys or nail polish or whatever else, me and my husband agree it might be a good idea for them to have an allowance. We haven't decided how much they should get yet. They each do 3 or 4 chores a day (washing dishes, laundry, taking care of pets, sweeping, etc.) and help me out with any other tasks I have for them to do. The oldest cooks dinner once or twice a week. They're good with keeping their rooms clean and stuff like that. They never complain when I ask them to do things and are pretty good with getting them done right away.
I trust the older two to not waste all of their money on candy and useless junk that they don't need, though the youngest will definitely need some guidance.

How much do you suggest I give them? If you are a parent, how much do your kids get? If you are a child, how much do your parents give you?

Thanks.

**Also, this is not my account, I don't have a yahoo answers account so my niece let me use hers.

Why are vintage board games worth money?

best vintage kids toys
on Toys Toys Toys | Blah Blah Blah
best vintage kids toys image

touchingen

I have quite a few vintage board games that I'm selling on a thrift sale. I searched on ebay and noticed they were getting expensive - why is this?

Answer
There are two main factors that drive pricing in the collectibles market. The primary one is availability. Games, particular older games, were considered "child's play" and so when your kid grew up, the games were thrown out, yard saled, etc. Supply diminishes. Games take a lot of abuse from young kids, and so games with any kind of potentially breakable components, most likely had broken components. A broken toy tends to end up in the bin, and supply decreases even more. So, now you've got a market where certain items are in very limited supply.

The second driving factor in all collectibles, and particularly the board game market, is memory. A game that you played as a child, summers at the beach house, etc. So, for the majority of nostalgia collectors, games which were readily available growing up are the target for collection.

Mainstream board games finally started to grow beyond the standards (Monopoly, Life, Risk, etc) in the mid-70's. All those kids who grew up in an era where there was a much wider variety of board games available are now hitting their late 30's, early 40's. They have money to spend, and often kids of their own that they want to share those positive gaming memories with. Decreased supply + increased demand = increased value.

How difficult is it to brew your own beer?

Mike S

I've heard of individuals learning how to brew some tasty beer and I was wondering about some of the secrets.

Answer
The basic homebrewing equipment is not all that expensive – you can probably get everything you need to start for $100 - $150 – and we'll be glad to direct you to it online in our related products section. Of course, you could also choose to ruin our fun and buy it from some local brewing supplies store. In order to start brewing, you will need the following items:
Brewpot
Primary fermenter
Airlock and stopper
Plastic hose
Bottling bucket
Bottles
Bottle brush
Bottle capper (if glass bottles are used)
Stick-on thermometer
Household items
Now we will explain what these items are and give you a basic idea of what you do with them, although the more detailed brewing instructions come in steps 2, 3, and 4.

Brewpot

A brewpot is a huge pot made of stainless steel or enamel-coated metal which is of at least 16-quart capacity. You might have a huge pot at home already, but it's no good if it's made of aluminum or if it's a chipped enamelized pot. These will make the beer taste funny. You use the brewpot to boil up the beer ingredients or "wort," as described in 3. Cook up some beer).

Primary fermenter

The primary fermenter is where the wort goes after you've boiled it, and it's where the beer begins to ferment and become that fabulous stuff that makes you so funny and charming. The primary fermenter must have a minimum capacity of 7 gallons, and a lid which seals airtight and accommodates the airlock and rubber stopper. There's no faking these puppies – you've got to buy one that's made for the purpose. Make sure the one you buy is made of food-grade plastic, as this kind of plastic doesn't allow the bad stuff in or let the good stuff out.

Airlock and stopper

The airlock is a handy gadget which allows carbon dioxide to escape from your primary fermenter during fermentation, thus keeping it from exploding, but doesn't allow any of the bad air from outside to enter your beer's hygienic little world. It fits into a rubber stopper which has a hole drilled into it, and the stopper goes in the top of your primary fermenter. The stoppers are sized by number, so make sure you figure out what size of hole you have and what kind of stopper fits it.

Plastic hose

This small, wind-powered burrowing machine is . . . no, just kidding, we're talking about an ordinary five-foot length of food-grade plastic hose. You need it to transfer beer from place to place, and you need to keep it clean and free of kinks or leaks.

Bottling bucket

This is a large, food-grade plastic bucket with a spigot at the bottom. It must be at least as big as your primary fermenter, because you need to pour all the liquid from your primary fermenter into your bottling bucket prior to bottling your beer.

Bottles

After primary fermentation, you place the beer in bottles for secondary fermentation and storage. You need enough bottles to hold all the beer you're going to make (a 5-gallon batch of beer is about 640 ounces, so if you're using 16-ounce bottles you'll need 40). The best kind of bottles are solid glass ones with smooth tops (not the twist-off kind) that will accept a cap from a bottle capper. You can use plastic ones with screw-on lids, but they look crappy and they're not as good for fermentation. It's your call, but we recommend you go with the glass ones.

Whether you use glass or plastic bottles, make sure they are dark-colored. Light damages beer, so you want your bottles to be as dark as possible.

Bottle brush

This is a thin, curvy brush which you can insert into a bottle in order to clean it out really well. We haven't even gotten into how clean everything has to be, but we will, and the bottle brush is a specialized bit of cleaning gear you will need.

Bottle capper

If you take our advice and buy glass bottles, you will need some sort of bottle capper to secure the caps on them. You'll also need caps, of course, and you can buy them from any brewing supplies store. The best sort of bottle capper is one which can be affixed to a surface and worked with one hand while you hold the bottle with the other. There are also cheaper ones which require two hands on the capper, but these can be a pain. Go where your budget guides you.

Stick-on thermometer

This is a thermometer which you can apply to the side of your primary fermenter. They look like thin strips of plastic and they are backed with an adhesive. You can purchase them online, from a brewing supplies store, or from a pet store or aquarium store (they are also used for aquaria).

Household items

In addition to the above specialized equipment, you will need the following household items:

Small bowl
Saucepan
Rubber spatula
Oven mitts/pot handlers
Big mixing spoon (stainless steel or plastic)
Once you've got all these things, you're properly armed.

For you, the beginning brewer, this step is accomplished all at once, because you are simply going to buy a "beer kit" which tells you what kind of beer it will make and includes all the necessary ingredients. (More experienced brewers find a recipe they like and purchase the ingredients separately. Not you, novice.) A beer kit consists of a big can of hopped malt concentrate and a packet of yeast. You will also need to purchase additional "fermentables" (this is the stuff that makes alcohol. All together now - "More fermentables means more alcohol"). Common additional fermentables are include brewers sugar, dry malt extract, liquid malt extract, rice syrup, demerera sugar, Belgian candi sugar or any combination of the above. You will need at least two pounds, and not more than three on your first go-round (you want to get just drunk enough to be charming, remember).

Beer kits eliminate a lot of your capacity for error and let you get used to the procedure before you start messing around with loose ingredients. These beer kits are available online or at brewing supplies stores and most people in the world brew with beer kits. Some brewers like the convenience and certainty of them so much that they continue to use them throughout their homebrewing careers.

There are, however, many variations on the brewing theme. We don't provide you with any recipes in this article because it is aimed at the beginning brewer. If and when you wish to move beyond beer kits, we recommend that you purchase a book about homebrewing which contains a good recipe section, subscribe to a brewing magazine which will provide you with new recipes each month, or look on the Internet yourself for online recipes. (We took the liberty of including some links to homebrewing books with this SYW.) Once you've selected a recipe, you can then purchase the required ingredients and proceed.

Clean and sanitize your equipment

Cleanliness is incredibly important. You must clean and sanitize all of your equipment right before you start brewing, and keep everything clean throughout the process. Bacteria and fungi are everywhere and if enough of them get into your beer they will completely ruin it. The good part is that if you do clean everything you will make an excellent first batch of beer. At the first stage of brewing, you will need to clean and sanitize the following items:

At the first stage of brewing, you will need to clean and sanitize the following items:

Brewpot
Primary fermenter
Brew spoon
Airlock and stopper
Saucepan
Small bowl
Rubber spatula
Big mixing spoon
Later stages will also require you to clean and sanitize other items, and when we say that you should refer to the following cleaning and sanitizing instructions.

Cleaning refers to the removal of any visible crud, sediment, film, dust, etc. from all of your equipment. This can be accomplished with dish soap and a cloth or brush. Or if you're lucky enough to have one, you can just use a dishwasher.

Sanitizing is a separate procedure from cleaning, and it requires the use of heat, chlorine or iodine mixed with water to kill off any remaining bacteria. If your dishwasher has a "heat dry" cycle, you're in luck. Turn it on and let the steam in the dry cycle do the work for you.

If you are not blessed with a dishwasher (no doubt, one of man's greatest inventions) you will need to sanitize the old fashion way.

First, you need to mix up some sanitizing solution, using either unscented chlorine bleach (2 ounces per 5 gallons of water) or pure iodine (not the stuff your mom put on your wounds, but stuff you have to buy at a brewing or restaurant supply store) and cold water.

Mix this up in a big basin, a sink or a bathtub, so long as whatever equipment you put it in has been thoroughly cleaned.

The primary fermenter and the bottling bucket don't need to be soaked; you can mix up sanitizing solution right in them. You can even soak your other items in these two pieces.

All small items should be completely immersed in the sanitizing solution in the sink or in one of the large pieces of equipment. Once everything is full of or immersed in sanitizing solution, you can kick back and wait (30 minutes if you are using bleach, 5 minutes with the iodine solution) while the solution does its work. If you are using bleach you need to rinse everything thoroughly after it is sanitized. Set everything somewhere clean and let it dry. Don't allow small children, pets or gypsies to rummage through the equipment, don't sneeze on it. We want everything to be nice and clean for the brewing. OK. Let's make some liquid nirvana!

Instructions for making great beer from a beer kit

Bring 2 quarts of water to 160-180°F, basically steaming but not boiling. Then remove from heat.

Add your beer kit and additional fermentables according to the directions. Suggested fermentables, as we mentioned before, include brewers sugar, dry malt extract, liquid malt extract, rice syrup, demerera sugar, Belgian candi sugar or any combination of the above. Each will impart its own unique flavor profile. Ask your local shop owner for advice on how to get what you want.

Stir aggressively to ensure that everything gets dissolved. Put a lid on the pot and let it sit for 10-15 minutes on the lowest heat setting. This will ensure that you achieve sanitation.

Add the contents of your pot to 4 gallons of cold water already in your primary fermenter. Mix well, at least a minute or two. This helps add oxygen to your wort prior to adding your yeast. Trust us, your yeast will thank you for it later (if you know what we mean). When the side of your fermenter feels cool to the touch, it is safe to add your yeast. Some kits recommend re-hydrating your yeast in water first. This is not really neccessary.

Ferment as close to recommended temperature range as possible

Primary fermentation

You have now made wort (it's not exactly beer yet). Your wort will begin to ferment within the first day, and it will continue to do so for 3 to 5 days. You can tell that your wort is fermenting when you see little air bubbles rising up through the water in the airlock. This is basically just the gas produced during the fermentation process being forced out of the fermenter. After five days, you should begin to check on your beer every day, to see if it is still fermenting. If the water in the airlock is still bubbling, the beer is still fermenting and you must leave it alone. You can ruin your beer and cause your bottles to explode if you bottle your beer before primary fermentation has finished. When the bubbling stops or slows until there is a pause of two minutes between bubbles, primary fermentation is completed and your beer is ready to be bottled.

Bottling and Secondary Fermentation

Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottles, so you don't get to drink your beer just yet. You can go ahead and try some, but it won't be carbonated so you might not like it very much.

First, of course, you must clean (be sure to use your bottling brush and get all the crud out of your bottles) and sanitize (see section 3) the following items: Bottling bucket, Bottles, Bottle caps, Plastic hose, Saucepan, and Mixing spoon.

Make sure you have enough bottles to contain your new brew. Five gallons of beer is equivalent to approximately 640 ounces, so you need to plan accordingly, e.g., if you have 16-ounce bottles you'll need about 40. You should also make sure you have more than enough caps, in case you screw up and have to re-cap some of the bottles.

You will also need to have some pure dextrose on hand, to make a priming solution. This is what allows the remaining yeast in your beer to carbonate the beer. Take the saucepan and put two or three cups of water in it, and dissolve 3/4 cup of dextrose in the water. Bring the solution to a boil over medium heat, then cover it and set it aside to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

After the priming solution has cooled, place your cleaned and sanitized bottling bucket on the floor. Place the primary fermenter on a chair, table or counter directly above the bottling bucket. Try not to shake up the beer inside the fermenter too much when you move it, because you want all the sediment to stay on the bottom. Attach the plastic hose to the spigot on the primary fermenter and put the other end of the hose in the bottom of the bottling bucket. Pour the priming solution into the bottling bucket, and then open the spigot on the fermenter, allowing the beer to flow into the bucket and mix with the solution. Don't try to get the last of the beer out of the fermenter, because it contains sediment you don't want.

Close the spigot on the fermenter, take off the hose, and clean it well. Then get the fermenter out of the way and put the bottling bucket up where it was and hook up the hose to its spigot. Line up all your bottles on the floor underneath it and stick the hose into one of the bottles. Then you're ready to open up the spigot on the bottling bucket and let the beer fly. Stick the hose in all the way to the bottom, and when the beer gets really near the top, yank the hose out and stick it in the next bottle. The level in the bottle drops when you take the tube out, and you want to leave about one inch of airspace at the top of the bottle (as close to one inch as possible; much more or less than that is not good). Therefore, you should be yanking the hose out when the beer is more or less right at the top of the bottle. If you have any financial aid money left over from last semester, invest in a bottle filler. It will make bottling less messy and be the best $2.99 you ever spent.

Once all the beer has drained out of the bucket, get ready to put the caps on your bottles. You need to do this right away, because every second that your beer remains exposed to the elements is a bad second. We've warned you about the bacteria and fungi. If you are using plastic bottles with screw tops, you can just sit down on the floor with your beer and twist them on. If you're using glass bottles with metal caps, you're going to need to use a bottle capper, and it will be way easier if you move them to a table or wherever you're going to sit and work. Follow the directions of the capper you've purchased, and take your time. If you suspect that one of the caps didn't go on correctly, rip the cap off and put on a new one. Check all your bottles for leakage and re-cap any that leak.

Once you've got all your bottles capped, you need to find a cool, dark place to put them while secondary fermentation takes place. They should not go in your fridge. Refrigerators are too cold for the yeast to do its work. You might as well put your beer wherever it was you put your fermenter, like in a closet, in the basement, in the attic or wherever, so long as the location is at a steady temperature of around 60 - 70 degrees. Now comes the really hard part. You have to leave your beer there for a minimum of two weeks before you can drink any of it. We know you've already waited for like, a whole week or maybe more, but you must be patient.

You must also continue to be clean. We know you're tuckered out from all that bottling, but you have to clean out all of your equipment before you shove it into the closet. You'll be doing yourself a huge favor, as the equipment will be much easier to clean and sanitize next time you want to make beer, and, therefore, it will be easier to make your next batch

I remember my dad always got this HUGE catalog in the mail every winter, it had all kinds of toys for kids. My dad has passed away and I can't think of what it was called. But I loved it. Please help! I'd like to be on the mailing list again for my kids!

Answer
It may have been the Argos catalog, I get those every year because they have everything in them and they are free!

Am I wrong for kicking my son out of the house for being homosexual ?

Everette

I didn't raise him to be this way , he did not play with this girl toys as a kid I believe this is something that has just sprang up !
First of all I am his father and yes I believe he chose this behavior to try and hurt our family !

Answer
Sorry to be so blunt, but you did your son a big favor by kicking him out of the house. I can only imagine how he suffered growing up and having to keep his true nature concealed from the people who are supposed to love him the most - his family.

What makes you think he CHOSE this behavior? Have you even tried to understand the science on homosexuality? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/12/why-are-there-gay-men_n_1590501.html?utm_hp_ref=sex

You are seriously narcissistic if you think he "chose" this behavior to hurt the rest of the family. It's not about YOU!

And how would it "hurt" the family? Is your family so dysfunctional and weak that they would be "hurt" by the cruel opinions of pinheads? You seriously need to re-think what is important in your life.

The loss is yours.

Kyle

Hi, I'm a guy.
As a kid ive been through a lot of bad stuff. I've been through seen my moms life in danger, and my dad being abuse. I've done my best to keep myself up and not let my self esteem down. I don't really want to talk to people about my problems and the things ive been through. I'm just not used to the feeling of having to sit with someone and know that they are interested on helping me or knowing what's wrong with me. When i was about 8 years old, my oldest cousin told me to play with him. We were alone at my aunts house. Everything seemed like a game to me, it was fun to play with toys and video games. But than there was a moment where he had asked me to play a different game with him. He said that all i needed to do was to pull my pants down, and do the same thing that he did. Whom ever did everything exactly the way it was, he would get a prize and would be called king.
I didn't know what we were doing at all. To me it was normal and it was ok. I thought of it as Simon says, except you didn't use your words, just your hands and body. When we were done, he said i was the winner, so he went to the store and bought me a toy crown and an ice-cream cone. I was very excited. As i grew up, i started liking boys, i would fantasize about them and i always liked the way a masculine figure looks. I never thought it was something that people dint see as being normal or the usual boy and girl. I didn't learn that until i turned 16. Now I'm 18, on October of 2011 I told my parents what happened with my cousin, and the game he made me play. I've had a lot of girlfriends through out my life. I have kissed guys and i do like it as well. But i honestly don't want to be with a guy. I don't like the idea of me with a guy, i want to have kids and a wife. Its my most desirable thing. I'm in a battle with myself, and i cant handle it anymore. The feeling is too strong and its killing me. Pleas, I know that some of you might say that there's nothing wrong with being gay, but its something i don't wish to be. I'm not against it or hate it either. I honestly think that everyone should have their own preference. Mine is to overcome this trauma or whatever it is.
If you have something that can help me id appreciate it a lot. I also want to thank the people who took their valuable time to read all of this and share some advice. (>^_^)>

Answer
Hello, I am sorry that you are going through all of these emotions. But the way that you described your situation doesn't sound like gay to me, it sounds more like bisexual. And I know that you don't want to hear "there is nothing wrong with being gay", so I will tell you that maybe you need to talk with counselors in the LGBT community who have handled these situations before. You are not alone with these feelings. I am not trained in this area, but I can tell you that if you do not learn to address this problem and just let it fester on your mind, it can have damaging effects. Here is a number to some counselors who can help you. Remember, it doesn't hurt to call.

Answer
Here are some recommendations.

These are all exciting and violent but also complex and plot driven. I've put them in order of how much I like them, so you don't have to read them all. If you have any questions about them, send me a message. The numbers skip where I excluded an anime that you've already seen.

1. Steins Gate - This is about time travel and the butterfly effect. It lets you see how much of a difference in the world a single action can make. It has a lot of action and some romance.

2. Madoka Magica - Magical girls that turn evil to work against the second law of thermodynamics. It contains magic, time-travel, violence, and mystery. It is much more than it first seems and definitely worth watching.

3. Darker than Black - A futuristic world where people have powers and no emotions. It focuses on contractors and a mysterious wall that separates the urban setting from the outside world.

4. Paranoia Agent - Obsession taking over people and causing them to go insane. The art is a little lacking but this has one of the best plots of any anime I have seen.

5. Fate/zero - The main character is pretty cold, tactical, smart, and will do anything to win. It's action packed and quite complex.

6. Code Geass - A guy who uses his power to control people to protect his handicapped sister and launch a rebellion. It's mecha but much more psychologically complex than most mecha anime.

7. Death Note - Being able to murder simply by writing a name in a book. It is a psychological thriller for anyone. It has some very likable characters, L being my favorite anime character.

9. Monster - A neurosurgeon saves the life of a child who becomes a serial killer

10. Angel Beats - People who have died learning to give up their past regrets. I love the main character because of his apathetic yet rebellious attitude.

11. Requiem for the Phantom - It is a very dark, sad, action, thriller anime with a hint of romance. It follows a Japanese tourist who is abducted and is turned into an assassin.

12. Mirai Nikki - A survival game in which the competitors can have future diaries. It contains a crazy girl and a protagonist who undergoes a huge transformation.

13. Cowboy Bebop - Classic through and through. It is very funny and filled with action to boot. The different planets are really nifty settings. Everyone should give it a chance.

14. Zero No Tsukaima - This an anime about a teenage boy that travels to another world filled with magic. He is somehow mysteriously summoned by a young girl as her familiar pet, and has to fight as her slave.

15. Guilty Crown - this is a pretty action packed anime. It's new so the animation is top notch. It's about an apathetic kid who becomes powerful and saves the world from destruction using the power of DNA introns.

16. Kuroshitsuji - About a contract between a British heir to a toy company and a demon. It has lots of action and mystery elements.

17. Gurren Laggan - this involves people who escape from an underground world to fight strange earth dwelling creatures. It's mecha but much different that traditional action based anime. Pretty cool overall!

18. Higashi no Eden - This series features a male protagonist whose goal is to fix his country. It's action packed!

20. Clannad - It's really emotional and powerful. There's two season. Clannad After Story which is rated quite highly.

21. Durarara- It's about a teen who moves to Japan and get's involved in Tokyo's shady underground.

23. Pandora Hearts - A really dark anime. It deals with something from another world. Alice gives Oz a power that she has in a demon contract.

24. Trinity Blood - This anime deals with violent politics and empires and nobles and such in violent and super natural wars.

25. Hellsing - This is definitely the best of the vampire animes!

26. Ouran High School Host Club- a poor girl goes to a school for rich kids. She suddenly got into a club full of handsome guys and broke their very expensive vase, and she now has to be a host in order to pay her debt.

27. Elfen Lied - Lots of death and dark storylines, characters that arent who they appear to be to other characters in the series, great music.

28. Nabari No Ou - this is a ninja anime but it is focussed on an apathetic kid with hidden powers. It also highlights his relationship with another guy who is at first his enemy. A nice little story!

Hope you like them! :)

Why does Chinese government blame Mattel for its lead contaminated toys?

best kids construction toys image
Q. Mattel designs its toys, but Mattel does not tell Chinese manufacturers to use lead in the toys. Chinese government's argument that its toys contain lead because Mattel designs the toys is irrelevent. What do you think?

Answer
Foreign owned enterprises often make the investment to have the factories set up. The factories then buy and sell and work according to the directives of the foreign investors. It is a misconception to think that these manufacturers run an independent business and foreign investors are duped by their shady manufacturing procedures. The foreign companies count on these things to keep the prices low. Often the only things that are not directly controlled and approved are the scary things that the foreign operators don't want want to be responsible for knowing. They know, they just don't sign off on it. This way they can make China the bad guy in event the truth comes to light.

Mattel, to be fair, is MUCH better than most. It did keep a close eye on local manufacturing and ran one of the more respectable outsourcings. In fact, Mattel recently issued a public announcement and apology to the Chinese manufacturer and admitted that it issued a recall far more extensive than was necessary. It was a PR move that had the wonderful benefit of protecting children. But they knew it was more than necessary. It is hard to be called a bad guy for being over cautious when it comes to children but Mattel, shall we say, over did it.

Now if we can only get a moral recall of all of the products that built on the back of girls from the countryside who are lured away from their family and live in sweatshops that would make a US prison look like a summer camp. Their first checks are held so that they cannot afford to leave. They are penalized out of their checks for minor infractions, live in filthy dorm quarters, work 60 hour weeks and make about $20 a week . Not a joke. I am here and I see these kids. A 20 year old Chinese kid from the countryside has about the street smarts of a 13 year old American girl. Few consider the fact that for every mg of lead paint that reached the US, a 19-21 year old Chinese child was exposed to gallons of the paint on a daily basis with no hope of receiving health care.

Of course they are not all this way. Some offer the kids nice clean housing and the best hope of getting out of the countryside. Some owners treat the kids like family and in that way they are actually better than US factories. There are few black/whites in this world.

I am not an young American expat/ socialist or populist. I am not a Walmart basher and I am not here to "shed light" on the Chinese government or social injustice. I am just an attorney who came here to learn the language and work construction. I didn't really care or believe this stuff was true. I thought all this crap was propoganda until I met the kids and saw the factories behind brick walls with guards and bars. These little work prisons pepper the inland trucking routes in southern China. That way truckers can pick up the goods in between regulated factories and bring in the products where they are assembled under the guise of supervision and regulation. THIS is where places like Mattel get infiltrated with shoddy products. It is so transparent that is difficult to say that they are hiding it.

I am sure that is more than you wanted.

What was the best invention for kids that made one crazy inventor and investor a millionare?

Q. Remember those animal rubber bands? The guy probably is at home in retirement on his pool, exercising, young, and living the dream life selling those animal rubber bands. I'm doing a project for Economics about the best product made for children because kids are particulary suckers somewhere at age 3-5 years old.

That woman who made a book for kids who are in stress I know its kinda funny but she made millions of dollars probably at home same as that animal rubber band guy. LOL

Answer
It has to be LEGO. A small Danish toy company with only seven or eight employees bought a plastic injection moulding machine and invented a 'self binding brick'. In less than twenty years, by the 1960s, the company was worth millions. No other invention: doll, clay, game, construction set or gadget, comes close to it.

Kids love it: they buy a few bricks and play for weeks on end. They start at 4 or 5 years old, and are still playing and collecting at 12.

There are compatible bricks, (such as Canadian Mega Bloks) but parents prefer the original brand, so it still sells like hot cakes. LEGO fans always seem to need the latest set.

Will getting a dog help my children overcome their fear of dogs?

Love my ba

I have two kids who are 2 and 4. They are deathly afraid of dogs, I mean absolutely terrified. If they see a dog DOWN THE ROAD that is even on a chain and it is barking they still freak out and run inside. The main problem is my 4 year old. He is so scared of dogs that it's almost ridiculous. My daughter who is 2 is also scared of dogs but I believe it's only because of her big brother being afraid of dogs. When he is not around to show fear, she is interested in dogs and even pets them, but doesn't want to be put down or I guess in a position where the dog could get her. The main problem is when they come at my kids, playful or not if they come running at my kids that's when they really get scared. Or bark loudly at my kids. If they are far away and playing or doing something funny like chasing a toy my son will laugh and laugh but if they get near that's when he gets scared. He has no reason to have this fear but has had it since before the age of 1. I am wondering if I get a dog, maybe one that is a little older past the puppy stage like 2 or 3 that is calm and not all jumpy, but still plays, and is very sweet and loving, if it will help my children over come their fear? At least to some degree? Has anyone has experience with this? Also if you could recommend and good bread for this? I am shelter currently has at a Puggle, and a beagle lab mix that I have been looking at pictures who are both 2-4 years old and cute! Thanks for any help

Answer
No no no no. Your kids should feel safe in their own home. That means no dog until they are ready for it. Further, kids age 2 and 4 are NOT a good home for the dog either. The younger child especially is at the age where kids can be absolutely abusive to a dog (or any animal) without understanding the consequences. That's why THOUSANDS of toddlers are bitten every year....

Here is a website with some good ideas for you to try:
http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/features/helping-your-child-overcome-a-fear-of-dogs?page=2

EDIT:
In 2011, there were 43,989 dog bites reported for kids age 4 and under. And I'm betting at least that same number went unreported.... http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/nfirates2001.html

BTW, "cute" should be the LAST consideration. Wait until your youngest is 5 before getting something like a Lab or Golden Retriever, or a cross of those. That will give you lots of time to work on your children's phobias.

Do you know what you are getting your kids for Christmas this year (2011)?

Kawaii

If so, what? Please also include ages of your kids and gender. I'm planning out a Christmas gift idea list for my 3 year old boy and my 6 year old girl, and would like to see what every one else's kids are into. Thanks!

How can I keep my dogs AWAY from the trampoline?

blah

My kids got a trampoline for xmas (not cheap at all) and so far, one of my labs made himself his own doggie door and had been caught sleeping in it, The other lab is a puppy still...about 7 months and cant jump that high (thankfully) but she is chewing the padding that goes over the springs. Thats all she can reach...for now. We have tried chew toys..but the older one tears em up within 10 min! and I dont have that kind of $ to keep buying them! The ropes...takes about a day for him to chew up and its gone and quite the mess when he's done.

I was thinking about an invisable fence...but sounds expensive. Has anyone done it and can tell me roughly what it'll cost? We believe its happening at night. They are mostly outside dogs.

Answer
We put up a hot wire for small animals. Our dog was escaping from the yard by digging out from under our fence. We ran the hot wire all the way around the fence and he won't go near it. If your children are old enough to understand the wire is hot, that would be a good inexpensive way to handle your problem. We also ran a double strand across half of the yard to keep both dogs out of the fish ponds and flower beds. Our kids are 8 and 11 and know to step over them. They would have to be touching the wire for a few seconds for it to pop them anyway, but they have not touched it yet. We also touched the dogs paw to the wire to let them know it was hot. It doesn't hurt them, just a little shock.

or using deluted bleach? I feel like just soap and water doesn't get them clean enough because it doesn't disinfect. What ways do you clean your babies toys?

Answer
I have been a licensed child care provider in my home for 20 years. I have also overseen the toy cleaning procedures for our church's nursery, toddler, and preschool rooms. For normal home use with toys that are played with mostly by just your own child, washing with soap and rinsing well is all it takes to keep toys clean. If other children visit your home and play with your child's toys then you may want to disinfect, but if they aren't sick it really isn't necessary. For my daycare, I regularly wash most plastic toys in the top shelf of my dishwasher. Teething toys, rattles, and anything that has been in a baby's mouth goes through the dishwasher if possible. Other things are washed in warm soapy water, rinsed well and placed in a bleach water solution using 1 Tablespoon of bleach per 1 gallon of water. Let the toys soak for about 5 minutes than let air dry overnight. Bleach evaporates and there is no danger of babies ingesting it when the bleach water is thoroughly and completely dry from the toy. You can use disinfecting wipes on large surface toys such as climbing toys, chairs, and ride-on toys. Or, you can use a spray bottle that has 1 quart of water with 1 tsp. bleach in it. Either way, just let the surface dry completely before letting the baby play with the item again. I suggest you wash everything you can in your dishwasher and for other items, washing in soap and water works fine. It won't hurt to disinfect your baby's toys, but it isn't necessary with normal usage.

What is your favorite family friendly ride at Disneyworld and how many of you could ride together on it?

Wendi D

Just wondering what your favorite ride that the whole family can go on at Disney is. We are going with 4 children ages 2 1/2-11. How many people can fit on the ride together. I hate the idea of having 1 child ride something alone. We will be using child swap for the rides our toddler can not go on with us.

Both of our boys really enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean ride when they were younger. No age or size restrictions on the ride and the boats seat 10 to 12 per with up to 4 per row of seats. Little spooky maybe for the little ones maybe because of the dark, but took youngest son on when 2 and after he got used to lighting we had to ride it 6 times that day lol!

In the Animal Kingdom there is the safari tour that uses big open buses to take you out to the savanna to see majestic animals. Just make sure you get a fast pass for it or line gets terribly long later.

The new Toy Story is a blast for kids of all ages (including parents that never grow up) Four to car seated in pairs facing front and rear. You get to shoot 3d targets with a pull cord opperated cannon. Will want to pair little ones with a parent though to help keep 3d glasses on :) This ride is in Hollywood Studios.

EPCOT has Soarin. This ride seats a large number per row but beware of people who might be afraid of heights since your feet are free hanging to simulate a flying sensation and you are quite high off the floor if you actually look down during the presentation.

There are also many show to take in and would personally recomend the Nemo live show. Make sure you get there early to get a stage side seat. The actors will interact with crown from time to time so close seats make for a great experience if your children love Nemo.

I am very apprehensive about giving my kids toys for christmas this year because of all the recalls. Is anyone as worry as I am, and what are you giving them instead?

Answer
Hi I have a 4 year old and it has taken forever for myself and my wife to get his xmas presents. Yes the recalls were a factor. and small pieces.. to be honest though you have to let go of a lot of fears and go with what you feel is safe. The usual fisher price Little tykes.. etc. Basically any toy can be dangerous and can be part of a recall.. Basically ... you have to think you cannot protect your child from every single danger you basically have to minimise the dangers... Go with age appropriae toys... and then at least you get away from the too small swallow problem..
have a good xmas and ... bring your kids some joy nt worries.
BTW .... the young lady saying she is giving toys that have not been tested on animals .. basically how safe are they.. also .. it is well known hat all the chemicals in everything used by people has been tested on animals. Becasue a comany states they have not tested thier products on animals ony means they havnt doen tthe testing... in the past all the ingredients they use have been tested on aimals. They use already tested chemicals known to be safe.... and then they dont have to test thier final products to forfill sate and federal laws.. Think about it .. if they produced totally untested products.... and a reaction how eer small they would be sued for millions.. these comanies are not stupid but they believe the public are.. and in general unfortunately the public fall for this every day........ You only have to look at comanies like the Body shop... yep ..they were taken to task about this very same thing...
