L.E.

I have a grade 10 class and need ideas about what to do to help the community. So far we've thought of creating a "toy drive" or going to visit kids at a hospital.

*Note: The class budget is $0 so all the money (if any) shall come out of the kids' pockets.

Answer
In warmer weather, you could clean up trash.
What about re-cycling; does your community participate?
You could encourage composting, especially vermiculture.
How about collecting winter coats, hats, mitts, & scarves?
Either getting people to knit them, or work with dry cleaners.
How about a food drive for Thanksgiving or Christmas?
If you collect toys for hospitals, you need a way to sterilize.

Where can I get a bunch of stuffed animals cheap?

The Mystir

Me and my grandma are making care packages for kids in hospitals, and we and to put in them 3 things:
crayons
a coloring book
and a stuffed animal.
Where can I get those three things for cheap?
I live close to Alton Illinois, right across the river from St. Louis.
So we could save money, and we need to make about over 150 baskets, where can I get those for really cheap?
We wanna do it for Christmas.
Thanks!

Answer
Either dollar stores, thrift stores (make sure they are clean, often they are new) or you could approach a retailer, explain what you are doing (bring some samples and outline of where they are going) and ask for a discount, some donations. You could also contact the makers of stuffed toys and explain what you are doing and ask for a volume discount and if they have 'irregulars' they would donate. ]
Good for you!

What kinds of things do you get your young kids for Easter?

I have an 11 month old son and I'm just curious about what other parents get their kids for Easter. I was thinking a bucket and shovel and some cheap toys for outside.
He'll not even be one yet. No candy for him!
Dang we already have chicks! They are 4 weeks old though. I should have waited for Easter! That would have been fun! Haha. :)

Answer
My daughter is 16 months. I made her a basket full of some fun stuff. I just bought an oversized basket and I put pink and purple Easter grass in the bottom. I did it in a Mickey Mouse/Tigger and Pooh theme since those are her favorite characters and tv shows. I filled it with:

A new toothbrush/toothpaste
Bubbles
Bubble bath
Tadoodles first crayons by Crayola (designed for kids at the age of 1 or so)
Some of the bathtub tadoodles that you can play with in the tub
A ball that is Easter themed that I found at the grocery store..lol
A Coloring book (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, her favorite)
A Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Dvd
A stuffed bunny
Mickey's Easter egg hunt book
Some Super Sleuth and Mickey Mouse Books
A Frisbee (she can't really play with it, but it had Mickey Mouse on it so I bought it)
A couple pieces of candy
Animal Crackers
A new sippy cup
Some Panties (she is starting to get interested in using the potty and they had Minnie Mouse on them..lol)

Really you can fill it with anything that your son interested in. I just concentrated on the things that I new my daughter loves, so I know she will enjoy it. I didn't spend a lot of money either..probably around 40$, the most I spent money on was the Crayola stuff, each being around 5-8$. Most of the rest came from the dollar store/grocery store. We bought her a water table also, which is the sand and water activity table combined.

What should I put in my kids easter baskets?

Joy Beth

I don't want to give them a ton of candy, and those little easter themed toys are such junk, what do you suggest?

Answer
Every year I get my kids a few small treats, and trinkets, but then give them something they can play with outside. This year I got them roller skates, Easter comes early this year but spring will be here soon.

How do I get my toddler to listen to me?

LESLIE G

People say toddler are young to know what no mines.
He has the habit to hit and I dont know how to stop it.

Answer
First off his behavior will escalate before it gets better once you start implementing consistent discipline so don't let that discourage you.

I have a 3 year old and I have to get tough with him every 6 months or so, they go through different phases which are frustrating but completely normal they just have to be nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand. I also have a 1 1/2 I have had to start getting tough with :)! I do not believe in spanking a child, I don't think hitting is ever the answer it just tells the child that sometimes it's okay to hit like when your really mad.

There are 3 things that you might want to try that have really worked my child and for many others. I started using these methods with him just before his 2nd birthday because he started hitting and it was getting out of control.

1. Use what is called an emotional time out. Whatever the behavior and where ever you are you just set the child down without saying a word and ignore them. I know as a mom this will be very hard -it took me a while to get the hang of it. Our children typically act up to get attention and when you put them in timeout and talk to them about why they did wrong etc... They are getting your undivided attention so by ignoring them they get the opposite result and quickly learn that their behavior is not working.

2. Find out what your child’s currency is whether it is a special show they watch every day, a toy, etc... And take it away - it can not be earned back until the next day.

3. PRAISE your child for ever good thing they do. It seems a bit silly to tell them they are doing a good job for everything but it really works. (Insert name here) I like the way you are playing so nicely with your friends. When my son, at 22 months, was going through his hitting phase at the play area I would call him over every 5 mins or so and tell him what a great job he was doing being nice to the other kids not hitting or kicking and after a while I didn't have to do it anymore and he would come to me telling me what a good job he was doing.

No matter what you do it requires consistency as parents we have all threatened something and then not followed through as we should have this only makes the next behavior worse and harder to control.

After about a week my sons hitting was under control using the emotional timeouts and PRAISE!

Best of luck - stay strong it will be your best gift you could ever give your child!

How do you clean your babies plastic toys? Is it safe to wipe toys with clorox disinfecting wipes?

best toddler riding toys

best toddler riding toys image

Proud Momm

or using deluted bleach? I feel like just soap and water doesn't get them clean enough because it doesn't disinfect. What ways do you clean your babies toys?

Answer
I have been a licensed child care provider in my home for 20 years. I have also overseen the toy cleaning procedures for our church's nursery, toddler, and preschool rooms. For normal home use with toys that are played with mostly by just your own child, washing with soap and rinsing well is all it takes to keep toys clean. If other children visit your home and play with your child's toys then you may want to disinfect, but if they aren't sick it really isn't necessary. For my daycare, I regularly wash most plastic toys in the top shelf of my dishwasher. Teething toys, rattles, and anything that has been in a baby's mouth goes through the dishwasher if possible. Other things are washed in warm soapy water, rinsed well and placed in a bleach water solution using 1 Tablespoon of bleach per 1 gallon of water. Let the toys soak for about 5 minutes than let air dry overnight. Bleach evaporates and there is no danger of babies ingesting it when the bleach water is thoroughly and completely dry from the toy. You can use disinfecting wipes on large surface toys such as climbing toys, chairs, and ride-on toys. Or, you can use a spray bottle that has 1 quart of water with 1 tsp. bleach in it. Either way, just let the surface dry completely before letting the baby play with the item again. I suggest you wash everything you can in your dishwasher and for other items, washing in soap and water works fine. It won't hurt to disinfect your baby's toys, but it isn't necessary with normal usage.

What is your favorite family friendly ride at Disneyworld and how many of you could ride together on it?

Wendi D

Just wondering what your favorite ride that the whole family can go on at Disney is. We are going with 4 children ages 2 1/2-11. How many people can fit on the ride together. I hate the idea of having 1 child ride something alone. We will be using child swap for the rides our toddler can not go on with us.

Answer
Both of our boys really enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean ride when they were younger. No age or size restrictions on the ride and the boats seat 10 to 12 per with up to 4 per row of seats. Little spooky maybe for the little ones maybe because of the dark, but took youngest son on when 2 and after he got used to lighting we had to ride it 6 times that day lol!

In the Animal Kingdom there is the safari tour that uses big open buses to take you out to the savanna to see majestic animals. Just make sure you get a fast pass for it or line gets terribly long later.

The new Toy Story is a blast for kids of all ages (including parents that never grow up) Four to car seated in pairs facing front and rear. You get to shoot 3d targets with a pull cord opperated cannon. Will want to pair little ones with a parent though to help keep 3d glasses on :) This ride is in Hollywood Studios.

EPCOT has Soarin. This ride seats a large number per row but beware of people who might be afraid of heights since your feet are free hanging to simulate a flying sensation and you are quite high off the floor if you actually look down during the presentation.

There are also many show to take in and would personally recomend the Nemo live show. Make sure you get there early to get a stage side seat. The actors will interact with crown from time to time so close seats make for a great experience if your children love Nemo.

How to get outdoor dogs to become indoors?

Beans

I have 2 8 month old puppies. Until about 2 months ago, they were indoors but then they started chewing on everything and we had a big flea problem. I have flea bombed thehouse twice and treated them every 3 weeks, yet I find them still chewin at their behinds and the occasional flea jumps on me on the couch. I want them to be inside dogs but it seems like when they are inside, I have to gate off the hall that leads to the bedrooms because they will chew on the kids' toys. this isnt fair to my kids to not be able to access their rooms. They also get all wound up and start biting each other. They never bite the kids but my son has been warned by them with nips for pulling hair. My beagle NEVER lets me know when she needs to go out. The husky will bark but the beagle just sits at the door and if I dont see her, she will find somewhere else to go. I can see the look in her eyes when she is trying to get away with it in the house rather than outdoors. I know puppies are puppies but help?!
I only HAVE -2- dogs. One is a beagle and One is a Husky. Not 4, Im not THAT crazy. No the dogs dont BITE, the nip lightly to let him know that he is hurting them by pulling. He never cries, just laughs. We chose to get dogs and Im not getting rid of them just like that. Please dont judge our household. All Im requesting is info on how to tame them alittle more so they are not bouncing all over or chewing up toys. YES I get them their own. The beagle doesnt play with any the the Husky eats them. They never last more than a week. I buy toys that are supposed to be chewtastic, but she tends to tear them up anyways unless they are ropes and she doesnt play with those. She likes plastic! <Most of my kids' toys of course>. I dont have the ability to take them to Puppy school. My husband is militarya nd gone and Im home to take care of 3 children. They are not bad pups, just excited easily. The husky tends to bark and whine all night when crated and the Beagle pulls on walks. Thats it.

Answer
Have you gotten the puppies their OWN toy's? Puppies needs toys, usually this will help them to leave things alone that are not their own. It sounds as if they are both letting you know that they need to go, "one barking" "the other standing by the door" so the puppies are actually doing good. Either you will just have to keep in mind to keep an eye on them, "be able to do so as well" and let them out when they are telling you "in their own ways" or you will have to gate off a specific room for them "laundry or bathroom" or you will have to make them learn to live outside. Puppies are going to play, bite, growl, and bark at one another. Are they trying to bite the kids, or nipping at them playfully?
Maybe puppy school is in order then.

Hi there! COSI admission includes all of the exhibits except for Adventure and does not include movies on the Extreme Screen. We have ten permanent exhibits, live shows on the Gadgets stage live shows like Rat Basketball and the Electrostatic Generator that are all included in your admission. COSI is great for all ages with lots of science learning going on all over the building. Sometimes we will have traveling exhibitions which require an extra fee but the next one we have won't be until Fall 2012. Hope you enjoy your trip!

I need to find out the most popular Christmas gifts in the following countries: Japan, China, Mexico and Russia. Any help will be appreciated. I need the most popular gifts of 2010. Websites will be most helpful. If the countries I have listed don't celebrate Christmas, please say what they do celebrate. Thanks!

Answer
I'm not sure I can answer the whole of your question, but I did find some interesting information that may help you. I did a google search for a better understanding of the holidays in the various counties. There is a site in the U.S. which shows the 'Dream Toys' - this originates in the U.K., and where people reside in a large city, you can expect that what is popular in the U.K. (for kids) would be popular in other countries in Europe. The site also has the most popular Christmas presents for the U.S., which would also likely translate to Mexico, again in the big cities. All sites I referenced are listed in the sources below.

Japan: The major religions in Japan are Buddhism and Shinto, so Christmas is more a commercial event. The main celebration revolves around Christmas eve and not Christmas day. In Japan it is common to give Christmas presents.

China: Only about one percent of people are Christians, so most people only know a few things about Christmas. Because of this, Christmas is only often celebrated in major cities such as Shanghai and Beijing. In these big cities there are Christmas Trees, lights and other decorations on the streets and in department stores. Santa Claus is called 'Shen Dan Lao Ren' and has grottos in shops like is Europe and America.

Mexico: Mexicans share many traditions with the Spanish. Their main Christmas celebration is called La Posada, which is a religious procession that reenacts the search for shelter by Joseph and Mary before the birth of Jesus. Mexican children receive gifts. On Christmas day they are blindfolded and taken to try and break a decorated clay piñata that dangles and swings at the end of a rope. Once the piñata has been broken, the children clamber to recover the candy that was inside the piñata. Those children who have been good also on January 6th receive a gift from the Three Wise Men. Mexicans attend a midnight mass service which is called la Misa Del Gallo or "the rooster's mass," and at the mass they sing lullabies to Jesus.

Russia: Russian Orthodox Christmas takes place on January 7th (following the Old Calendar this is the 25th of December) and the celebration lasts for six days. In the Orthodox tradition nothing is eaten or drunk on Christmas Eve until the first star appears in the sky. The star is symbolic of the great star that led the Magi to the newly born Christ. Once the first star has appeared in the sky, the festivities begin. Grandfather Frost is the Russian Santa Claus. He brings gifts to the children at New Year's, which is the most popular Russian holiday celebration. His grand-daughter, the "Snowmaiden," accompanies him to help distribute the gifts. They bring bags of candy for the children and Grandfather Frost listens to the girls and boys sing songs and recite poems. After this, he gives small Christmas gifts to the children.

I hope this helps!

im very excited for this upcoming black friday already especially those $200 hp laptop and hdtv at bestbuy and target. but im kinda holding back on spending big for these week's sale because christmas sale might have better deals since stores are to clear out items every end of the year. but in your experience in the previous years, which sale has the better deals? especially for electronics, kids toys, and clothes? thanks!

Answer
I think the sales are better after Christmas. Items of choice should be in stock and less demand. I have found great sales on toys and other items I bought (ridiculously under priced) and I wish I had waited. I think the Thanksgiving sales are just a way to get you in the store and after Christmas is a need to get rid of merchandise.

We are taking our Daughter to the beach for the 1ST TIME! We are SUPER excited, yet super nervous! She will be 17 months old and she is just everywhere! She never sits still, and she can pitch some tantrums! LOL...She has never been this far away from home (12 hrs) and we are just really nervous! Can you please give me some tips on how to make the trip and the drive easier? Thanks!

Answer
Car DVD player and several of her favorite movies or cartoon DVD's

Take plenty of healthy snacks and drinks for her.

Take beach toys- a pail and shovel, some sand toy molds to make shapes with. Pack a few surprise toys for her during the trip in the car. Check dollar stores for simple little things like a small stuffed animal or something she can play with in the car that won't make a mess. Pull them out every so often and let her have one to keep her entertained and happy on the trip.

Schedule breaks at regular intervals for the potty and just to stretch legs, get a snack etc.. You'd be amazed how pulling off the road for 10 minutes will revive you and keep kids happier in the car!

Lots of sunscreen and one of those little canopy tents to sit in for her or a big umbrella you can all fit under on the beach to protect from the sun.

Another thing with beaches- and I'm assuming it is an ocean beach- be careful about the water. Strong under tows can come in fast and be undetected even from a short wade into the water on the shore. If a little one gets caught by one they can be pulled out far into the water and drown. Be sure someone is holding her hand tight if down by the water and don't let her out of easy grasp for a second.

Please help timeouts are nothing to them and spankings arent nothing to them either!

Answer
I actually was talking with a friend about this kind of thing not too long ago...she was never a really bad kid, but she did some things that would piss off and frustrate her parents. One particular incident we were talking about was when she was forbidden from going to a dance (I think we were juniors at this time), and I asked her if she had learned her lesson from it. She said "no, but if they had taken my car away I sure would have started paying attention."
So moral of the story is: you just need to find what matters to them. My friend didn't really give a crap about going to the dance, but she loved having the freedom to drive around as she pleased and not have Mom and Dad drop her off everywhere, so that would have gotten more attention. Likewise, maybe your son doesn't care if you spank him but he'll start listening when you take his Wii away. Maybe your daughter is unaffected by timeout but would pay attention if you stopped her from going to a few birthday parties. Tell them you'll do something and then do it if they don't stop. Once they know you're serious they'll start listening to your strict voice.
If timeouts and spankings don't work, here are some ideas:
Take away their possessions one by one and make them earn them back. I'm sure they have plenty of toys and clothes - hell, if they keep it up long enough you can take away their bed.
Cut their allowance.
Cut their privileges - dessert, TV time, video game time, parties they want to go to, etc.
Give unpleasant chores - nasty, hard, tedious, etc. One thing that worked really well for one of my sons was making him clean out the kitty litter with his bare hands.
Honestly, a lot of times it can turn into a test of wills - the key is that you need to win decisively. Let's stage an example:
You: "OK, it's bedtime, let's go."
Son: "No, I wanna stay up."
You: "No, you need to go to bed now. I want you in your PJs in 5 minutes or you're going to bed (30 minutes earlier) tomorrow night."
(5 minutes pass, your son is still in his dayclothes.) "Ok, bedtime is (e.g.) 8 tomorrow night. Let's go or I'll take away your Wii for a week."
If he doesn't go then, go ahead, take the Wii. Continue to take things away (including privileges if you want) until he gives in - he's eventually going to realize that if he continues he's going to end up with no toys, a bare mattress, no dessert, no TV, and a 6 pm bedtime. But the key is you cannot waver. He needs to see that you're steadfast. Even if he throws a tantrum just pick him up and put him in his room - he's under 10, I'm sure you can carry him. Turn off the light, close the door, and let him pitch a fit - there's no toys in there at that point, all he can do is look at the blank walls.
If he does go then, then congratulations! But make sure you stick with the earlier bedtime the next night or else he won't respect you.
When you take possessions, make sure you put them somewhere where either they can't find or access them.

Is it normal for kids to analyze a situation at 10 months?

Kareem

My son dropped a toy under the table and it rolled kind of far, he reached down and couldnt touch it. He then stepped back and walked to the other side of the table where he could easily reach the toy and grabbed it. It seemed as if he thought about the best way to get it. Side not: He started walking at 8 months and shows unusual interest in electronic devices.

Answer
probably is a gifted child
test is iq
if he started walking at that age he probably as a higher iq then normal

I spank him, i talk to him and even take away his favorite toy but it still don't work, how do i deal with it?

Answer
Children of this age normally try to acquire some autonomy and decide things for themselves. And you really do have to let him have his way as much as you can without letting him endanger himself or make life very incovenient for you. Or else, he is going to have psychological problems later on.

"Toddlers are constantly striving for more independence. This creates not only special safety concerns, but also discipline challenges. The child has to be taught, in a consistent manner, the limits of appropriate vs. inappropriate behavior."
....
"It is important for parents not to follow into a pattern of negative behavior with yelling, spanking, and threatening of their own."

Here is advice from a pediatrician about how to parent such children:

PARENTING TIPS

The toddler years are the time to begin instilling values, reasoning, and incentives in the child to conform to accepted rules of behavior.

It is important for parents to be consistent both in modeling behavior and in addressing appropriate vs. inappropriate behavior in the child.

Positive behavior should be both recognized and rewarded.

Time-out may be initiated for negative behavior or exceeding established limits.

The toddler´s favorite word may appear to be "NO!!!" It is important for parents not to follow into a pattern of negative behavior with yelling, spanking, and threatening of their own.

Teach children names of body parts.

Stress unique, individual qualities of the child.

Teach concepts of please, thank you, and sharing with others.

If not already reading to the child on a regular basis, this is a good time to start -- it will enhance the development of verbal skills.

Is It Safe To Leave My Toddlers Play Desk In Her Room At Night?

My daughter is nearly 2 years of age and i have recently moved her into her own room with a safety gate.
She has a desk in her room for which today she was climbing on and i have become a little worried of the idea she might use it to move to the door and climb over the safety gate.
My partner says i am over reacting; but seems this is highly possible, i am not sure that i am? Any advise please? Many thanks in advance.

Answer
teach her not to climb

Remember you can child proof your house but not the world. She needs to be taught what is safe & what isn't. So if you removed the desk from her room and other things she can't climb on then what is going to do the moment she sees thing she can climb on? CLIMB

My son was a climber. We made sure his dresser in his room was secure to the wall but that is it. When he would want to try to climb things we would firmly tell him no, tell him it wasn't safe & so on. If he did climb on something he wasn't suppose to like grandma's bar stools & he fell a bit we'd say "No climbing. You will get a boo boo." This would get the message across.

Make sure her room is safe with out let covers & making sure furniture like dressers, toy boxes & so on won't fall over on her. But that is it.

Show her how to sit in a chair for her desk. Show how it is used to color & draw. If you see her tying to climb on it again just tell her no. Showing her how to use the desk will also explain why isn't for climbing.

We also made a rule where you only climbed outside. Like it is ok to climb on the swing set or play land thing. It is ok to climb onto a see saw or jungle gym. But it is not ok to climb on things inside. Does that sense?

Teach her she isn't to climb over the gate. No touching the gate either. I'm curious at why you have a safety gate on her door?? Do you just not want her to come out of her room at naptime or bedtime? You can teach her taught. Right now all the gate is to her is road block. All she knows is she can't go past it. But does she know why? You can easily teach a child to say in their room when you want them to & yes even at 2 you can do that.

I wrote an article about "Room time" which includes that you can read it here -

What are some decent affordable keyboards for a beginner?

Mike

I want to learn to play the keyboard. Since it would be my first one it doesn't need to be top-of-the-line obviously. I want something affordable, yet still of decent quality. You know, not some cheap toy you buy for your kid who's taking piano lessons. Any suggestions?

Answer
Roland, Korg, Yamaha and Akai are my favourite brands. I'd dare say you could pick up a decent one for a lot less than $700 if you look around. Keep in mind also that just because something might look a bit like a kids toy, doesn't necessarily mean it will sound like one. Quirky designs are all the rage these days.

There's so many different possibilities and combinations of possibilities, it's difficult to know where to begin. You could buy a standalone keyboard, a desktop module that would save a lot of money but would require a MIDI control keyboard to operate. Or, if you're a bit computer-savvy you could delve into the world of soft synths. Again, this would require a MIDI controller (and a computer) but it opens up a whole new world.

For a standalone, the Korg X5D is a great little keyboard. They're no longer in production but you can always find used ones on eBay for less than $200.

The Roland XV-5050 is a fantastic module (again, no longer in production) that I would never part with for the world. $300 on eBay and a cheap MIDI controller would get you going and it is an absolute monster.

If you have any more specific ideas about the kind of things you might like, put them in your additional details or send me an email and I'll get some more ideas for you. Price range, capabilies, format, that kind of thing. The range of available keyboards is simply huge.

What dog is better for kids, a west-highland white terrier or a yorkshire terriers?

Megan

I really like both terriers so I want to know which one is better for my kids? I have a 13 year old, a 11 year old, and a 16 year old.

Answer
Well, that depends on you and your family.

Yorkies are very fragile, so you must have a relatively peaceful household. (At their ages, your kids should be old enough to be gentle with a toy breed dog, right?) Yorkies are energetic and can be considered hyper or frantic by some, although they don't really need outdoors exercise. They're very alert and loyal and make very good watch dogs, although most people aren't intimidated by yapping. Yorkies tend to be quite bossy, so you must not make the mistake of babying them or they will learn to manipulate you! If you're going to purchase a puppy, you must purchase from a high quality breeder. Due to their popularity, backyard breeders are mass-producing Yorkies that are overflowing with health and behavioral issues (like neurosis, separation anxiety, timidity). Yorkies make great little lap dogs, they love being with their family.

Westies are very sturdy for their size. Your kids can actually take the Westie outside to play like a "normal" dog. However, it isn't unusual for overexcited Westies to be nippy, so the kids shouldn't go crazy, you know? They're very intelligent, but their independent nature can also mean that training can be pretty difficult. They also require regular stimulation to keep them from being destructive out of boredom. And due to their independence, they aren't usually lap dogs; they can be, but don't be surprised if your Westie prefers the floor on the other side of the room. Westies are energetic and were designed to dig, so expect a lot of holes in your yard. Westies also unusually have high prey drives, which may result in some dead squirrels in your yard.. Anyway, Westies are much, much truer to the "terrier" character than the Yorkie. They're independent, prey-driven, digging, smart, energetic..

How do you feel about letting small children use your expensive gadgets?

Grammar Nu

I don't like hardly anyone, especially kids, using my electronics (my 3DS, for example) -- they're not allowed to, in fact.

Why? It's because their hands are sticky/dirty and they are often not gentle.

I take good care of my things and simply cannot trust others to be careful.

It seems that it's seen as offensive if I ask others to be gentle, as if I'm assuming that they will not be.

Am I in the wrong here?

I ask because of a little debate that I had with my mom and step-dad earlier about letting a 2-year-old play on an iPad -- with supervision, of course.

Answer
I have kids and I didn't have a problem letting my children play with my expensive "gadgets". I knew that they'd be gentle and careful. I am more reluctant with other people's kids.

You are completely within your rights to refuse other people's children or your own children to play with your electronics. These are YOUR items, not public property. Even if you are overprotective of your items, it does not change a thing. If a child does accidentally break the item, most parents will offer to replace it BUT...but they will expect you to turn down their offer and get offended and/or angry if you don't-especially if it's a family member.

Doing a film about a Chinese student arriving the the UK for the first time to study. Am asking as many people what they think I should put in, and what they remember most about the experience of living in a new country!

Answer
The buildings, the chattering of foreign voices, different fashions. The stores and difference in their opening and closing times. The food, markets.Traffic system, and it seems that everything you look at or touch, has much more clarity and texture than back home. It's like being a kid in a toy store. You want to experience everything straight away.Good luck with the film
