Should my 10 and 3 year old sons share a bedroom?

S

We live in a 3 bedroom house. 2 bedrooms downstairs and an attic bedroom upstairs. Right now my sons each have their own room downstairs and my husband and I have the attic bedroom upstairs. The downstairs is small and I feel like my 10 year old needs more privacy for when he has friends over. I also don't have a dining room in my house and that is a real disappointment for entertaining. I would like to turn one of the bedrooms into a dining room and move my husband and I to the other bedroom downstairs. Then, move my sons to the big attic bedroom upstairs. They would not be having bunk beds. My 10 year old could still keep his full-size bed and my 3 year old his twin size bed. They would have plenty of storage, their own closets, a big TV with cable, a desk for homework and lots of bookcases. I know it might suck for my 10 year old to share a room with his little bro, but I think it might be nice for him when he has friends over to be away from the adults and have some space. The 3 year old could stay downstairs with us when the 10 year old has friends over. What do you guys think? Any room-sharing experiences would be helpful. My dad and his brother (9 years apart) shared a bedroom and my my mom and her sister (7 years apart) shared a bedroom. They didn't see anything wrong with it.

Answer
It's best fo them to share a room with a bunk bed. Every kids love to have a bunk. The stores have bunk beds that has full size bed on bottom and twin on top. You can alway buy you 3 year old a full size bed to get full over full bed so the 10 year old can sleep on top. You should turn the downstair. bedroom into a dining room. The kids take the other dowstair bedroom and you and your husband take the attic bedroom. Since they're both boys, they can alway share a room until the older one will be in high school. The younger can have the room while the older one is in school. By the time the ten year old come home from school, he can take the room until bedtime. while the younger can watch the living room TV while the older one has friends come over.

Please do not put big cabled TV in the boys room, TV in their room will affect their attention span, it just not good for kids to have in their room. Just replace TV with books and some cool educational toys. Alway put the Moon in my room in their room. It might encourage them to share a room!!!!

How can I get my 3 year old to play more independently?

Bcmommysay

She goes to daycare but when she is home she wants to sit under her father and I. I dont have a real problem with it but her father thinks that maybe she should be playing more independently. She has a room full of toys and books but refuses to play with any of them. What should I do?

Answer
We have this issue with my kids.

Basically, after a long day at daycare, they want to hang out with us. It can drive us nuts, because they'll want to be just right there constantly. Unfortunately, their insistance of always being right on top of us made us basically just want to constantly tell them to go away.

What works best for us is to devote some time specifically for them at the end of the day, where we hang out, play, tickle, talk about our day, whatever. After about 30 minutes, we tell them to go play in their room while we fix dinner. We all have dinner together, and go our own ways, to some degree. My youngest son, in particular, just likes to be in the room with me, but he doesn't need me to entertain him.

If we try to just tell them to go play everytime they came and bothered us, they become more desperate for playtime. When we set aside special time for them, they're more likely to play on their own afterwards.

Only one time with the plastic, then you should have very minimal damage to your LUNGs, your brain would not have been effected, now your long term weed usage is a different matter.

"Driving after smoking even a small amount of marijuana almost doubles the risk of a fatal highway accident, according to an extensive study of 10,748 drivers involved in fatal crashes between 2001 and 2003â. - http://alcoholism.about.com/od/pot/a/pot_driving.htm

Marijuana smoke was listed as a cancer-causing agent by California on June 19, 2009

Even after adjusting the figures to take account of the other known risk factors, marijuana use remained a clear risk factor for testicular cancer. toddlers favorite toy?

Sexy Ma

whats your toddler's favorite toy and how old are they?
my 17 month old son loves his cars espically his thomas trains

Answer
My almost 3 year old son's favorite toy is his dump truck. He loves to put things in it, push it around, then dump everything out. My 16 month old stepson and 13 month old daughter also really love any big toy cars or trucks that they can push around, especially a little toy car we have that has a 'popper' in it. They also love their toy shopping cart and baby stroller. Anything they can push around! My favorite toys for them are anything that can still be used without all the parts, or something that doesn't have 'parts'. Classic wooden blocks, their wooden train set, people and animal figurines... anything they can play with creatively and doesn't play by itself, if you know what I mean?

Are there any really good toddler toys out there that you would recommend?

USMC Wifey

Answer
Honestly? No.
I found the BEST toys for my 22 month old to be:
Crayons
Non-toxic finger paints
wooden alphabet blocks. He learns the alphabet plus can build with them.
Wooden cars, animals and people. (inexpensive plastic substitute would be fine). He can spend hours of imaginative play with these.
And finally any cheap, safe, ride on toy will be loved by toddlers.

You don't need to spend money on toys. Even with all of my son's toys he loves:
Cardboard boxes. The cylinders from toilet paper rolls. Kitchenware, especially anything that he can use to make a loud noise with (spoon and saucepan) and he loves to play with sheets, towels, cloths etc.

Hope I helped.

Traveling with a toddler?

hellothere

My son is 2 1/2 years old. He still sleeps in a crib, but is small for a portable crib. We would like to take him to the beach this summer. But what should I do about the sleeping? I know he could sleep in my bed, but I would like him to sleep in his own. Are there any good traveling beds for toddlers? Any suggestion?

Answer
You can get toddler air beds with attached sleeping bag. They are usually about £30ish, and come with different designs that I'm sure your son would love (cars, toy story ect..)
I advise you get an electronic pump though, as blowing them up by mouth can be a bloody nightmare!

toddler friendly holidays/vacations?

just want a list of a few places and what attractions they have, i don't want a 10 page travel guide please :l
live in the UK, preferably wanting to go abroad

Answer
well if you want to stay in the UK, try glynn barton cottages in cornwall by newquay. there cottages designed for toddlers, which have a cot, high chair, bed guards, monitors, toddler beds, child friendly crockery etc. the site also has things to do such as a indoor swimming pool, indoor soft play barn, play room full of toys, tennis court, childrens play area and climbing frames, animals to feed and eggs to collect etc
and theres loads of things around like a beach in a 30 min drive, riding stables 8 miles away, and within 15 miles theres dairlyland farm world, crealy adventure park and within 20 miles theres a newquay blue reef aqaurium, newquay zoo and water world
http://www.glynnbarton.co.uk/fun_the_toddlers.htm

lapland - only a 3 hour flight and loads to do, such as see santa, snowmobile rides (children can ride in the things that trail behind tho i dont know what there called) reindeer rides, husky rides, tobogganing etc and im sure if you wrap your toddler up warm he/she will love it and love the snow
loads of websites for holidays in lapland although i recommend http://bookings.firstchoice.co.uk/lapland/

paris - i think its only a 2 hour flight and loads of stuff to do too, a main one is disneyland, theres another theme park like parc asterix (all designed for kids), sight seeing such as going up the eiffel tower although i hope your toddler isn't afraid of heights! go for a cruise on the river seine, kids science museum called cité des sciences et de l'industrie or maybe a zoo called parc zoologique de paris

or again just stay in the uk and go to butlins which has swiming pools, free fun fair, golf, go karts, shows and entertainment on all the time etc

hope i help and have a nice holidayy x

Do I have a chance at getting into UC Berkeley?

L2107

I'm a junior right now. I have a UW: 4.00 GPA and W: 4.72 GPA. I've taken 4 AP classes so far (APUSH, Comp Sci, Art History, Chemistry). I just took my first SAT in March and got my score which was 2070 (620 CR 800 M 650 W) which I am not too impressed with but am kinda on the edge of whether to take it again or not in October. I've taken the Korean SAT and got a 770 and im going to take the Chemistry SAT and Math II SAT this year. (both sat's i am fairly certain i will get over 750). I want to major in computer science or programming and for my extracurriculars I've been playing the drums and guitar at my church since 7th grade, i've recently started programming my own windows phone applications this year and will continue to do so, i've taken a job recently as a beta tester for a mobile phone app company, i've volunteered at my church's VBS and other activities since 7th grade also, i've made many visual effects videos which are posted on youtube.
So with this is it a good enough of a chance to get into UC Berkeley? I feel that because my SAT Score is lower than the average at Berkeley I won't stand a chance.
i am a california resident

Answer
GPA is strong, you've taken some AP's which is good, your SAT score is a little above average for UC Berkeley students which is good. Your extracurricular activities relate to your intended field of study which is very beneficial. The main weakness is your SAT II scores. I hope you're aware that with the crazy curve on most language tests, a 770 on Korean is only equal to 26th percentile and is thus rather unimpressive (http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/SAT-Subject_Tests_Percentile_Ranks_2011.pdf ). Other than that, it seems like a strong application, but you'll still want to try and differentiate yourself as much on college applications as possible, because there are plenty of kids who would just love to go into a major dealing with computer anything and who tinker around with various gadgets and what not. Based on where you are right now, I'd say about 60-70% chance of getting in.

What, in your opinion, is the most stupid way the government spends our money?

Mary

Answer
The federal government spent billions of dollars in 2011 on some unusual projects.
Here are some that seem utterly outrageous to me...

1. $764,825 for a study on how college students use cell phones and social media

The National Science Foundation awarded the University of Notre Dame this grant to study the mobile and social media habits of college freshmen. I can tell you exactly how college freshmen use mobile phones and social media: for 3 a.m. texts and phone calls to that guy in American History. I could have saved the government a lot of money.

2. $136,555 for teachers to retrace Chaucerâs Canterbury Tales in England
Ads by Google

This grant, awarded to teachers from Kent State and Eastern Illinois Universities, allowed Middle English lit fanatics to take the trip outlined in Canterbury Tales. I'm betting £10 that the tour guides just make up half of the landmarks.

3. $55,660 on butter packaging

Kriemhild Dairy Farms received this chunk of change to package their grass-fed cow butter. The funding isnât the only thing thatâs too big: The butter itself is 85 percent fat.

4. $606,000 for a study about online dating

Columbia University researchers received over a half-million dollars to study online dating. Maybe the Ivy League nerds who conducted this study should put down the lab coats and go to a bar â or at least the library.

5. $484,000 for a pizza restaurant

Arlington, Texas has one more beer and pizza joint, thanks to this grant to a private developer. The groovy Mellow Mushroom, a national chain, is known for its hippie theme.

6. $48,700 towards the Second Annual Hawaii Chocolate Festival

These funds were awarded to promote Hawaiiâs chocolate industry. The Aloha State is already full of sandy beaches, clear blue water, and sun. Why do they get all the good stuff... (Thatâs the mayor of Hershey, Pennsylvania on Line 1.)

7. $147,138 to build a magic museum

Maybe the wizards at the American Museum of Magic in Marshall, Mich., can make the federal deficit disappear. The grant was awarded to promote the âhistory of magic entertainment.â

8. $96,000 on iPads for kindergarteners

One school district in Maine was awarded this grant to buy every kindergarten student the latest Apple gadget. These kids canât add yet, but thanks to Uncle Sam theyâll never need to.

9. $175,587 for a study on the link between cocaine and the mating habits of quail

The funding for this super-important scientific study is down from its 2010 level of $181,406. But I think the amount is ridiculous for research that proves what the film âBlowâ already did: that cocaine is linked to high-risk sexual activity.

Question on buying gifts for kids at a Children's Hospital? Help?

Allison

Hi. I want to buy toys for kids at a children's hospital by me. I've never done anything like this, so I don't really know what to do. I don't know how many kids there are, I don't know how many boys vs girls, etc. Should I call the hospital and ask for these details so I have the right gifts? And I just show up with them? I'm a little confused.

Please offer any advice you can, especially if you've done something like this or work at a hospital!
To the person who wrote that my idea won't work, I'm pretty sure pictures, books, and other things that don't involve the kids physically doing anything with it is perfectly fine. Thanks for the input though, Mr. Optimism!

Answer
You need to call the Human Resources department of the hospital, and be prepared to be told that your idea isn't going to work.

Hospitals are filled with kids who are very ill, for many different reasons, are from multiple cultures, and whose parents do not want strangers bringing dropping off gifts. It's a health, safety, and security risk.

All the best.

This should be obvious, but I put it in this section because people looking in "health care" may work in health care and know the answers to my questions.

Answer
Find the website for the hospital. There should be a "how you can help" page on there. If there is, look for their wishlist or some other area that outlines things that make great donations.

If it's a large Children's hospital, you can pretty much guarantee that they have all kids of all ages with all kinds of needs. Art Supplies are always a good choice. Everything from toddler crayons up to nice brushes and Acrylic paints for older kids. Video games (E rated) are always good. Legos, fun pens, fun paper, scrapbooks, action figures/dolls, art kits, clay, play-doh, books, all are usually happily accepted.

One thing to remember is that usually the items MUST be new to lower the risk of infection.

If they don't have a website, then call the main line. When the operator asks how to direct your call, say, "I'm interested in donating some toys for the children. Can you direct me to someone who can help me pick appropriate things?"

Tips and Ideas for organizing toddler toys?

Jessica R

My two year old has hundreds of toys, that is not an exageration, i have sent alot of toys to his grandparents houses but there are still way too many, now we are expecting another baby and they will have to share a room, i have no idea what to do with all of these toys, i have taken out the baby toys and put them away. Help I am horrible at organizing!

Answer
Start by trashing any broken toys. Set aside a box for a yard sale or giving to Goodwill of toys that are no longer played with (never a big hit), that are missing pieces, duplicates or just to make room. Next buy some large rubber maid containers (preferably see through). Examples: my son has one for cars, ne for trains/tracks, balls, blocks etc... Small ones work for things like flash cards, animal figurines and other small objects. Same applies to stuffed animals. They can easily over run a house! :D Place a few on the bed and the others in a net on the wall or on a chain with clasp from the ceiling. If they have meaning and are no longer played with place in a keepsake box and put in the attic or basement.

Answer
Most kids bring toys with them. I am going to assume she did. IF she brought something with her. Play with those things which she brought! If not. I suggest you invest in or find some free, or gently used toys like Barbies, Maybe some nerf guns.. Never knew a kid who didn't like that. And then again.. There is ALWAYS THE TELEVISION!

what will you be getting your toddler this year for xmas? I have a 20 month old son and i will be getting him a lot of little people items and trucks. I was going to get him the bounce and spin zebra but i saw it on display and it was smaller than i thought and not much to do on it other than spin and bounce

Answer
Momof4, whats the brand for the "ball tracks?"

My sons likes cars, trucks, musical instruments like keyboard and xylophone. I got them some sound books (Elmo puzzle sound, Backyardigans, etc), Leapfrog fridge phonics.
Last year we got him My First Race Car by Parent's Magazine Toys from Target. It was fun for my then 2 year old, but not for me. It was too loud. Later, I went back to the store, the new packaging offers free 1 year subscription to Parent's Magazine.
We received a Brown Plush Pony Rocker with Sound & Motion, it comes with a felt cowboy hat.

How about those Mega Bloks, they have Rescue HQ and FP Geotrax.

toys for a 3 1/2 year old?

kirstin

My son loves to build things - do you know of any wonderful "toys" that let a child build and use their imagination? I have the usual - Legos, wooden blocks, big carboard blocks . . . I'm just looking for a new activity for him. Thank you!

Answer
Kid knex is the best construction toy my kids have ever had I bought one cheap set and my kids played with it constantly for a week I then added to it, they have played with that more than anything else since they were around three, they are six and seven now and they are still going strong. I have since introduced the version knex which is for older kids and is just as popular but the kid knex is not on it's way out yet. It is also one of the most popular thing that their friends play with they also have lego, playmobil, mechano, bricks and a room full of stuff.

Do Burger King and Mcdonalds offer free kids toys w/o purchase of food?

Shaymin

Is it possible to obtain the toys for free without purchasing the food...? If not, how much would the toys be?
I want them just because. :p Uhhh... I thought I would get something free to give to my friend's little sister. e_e

Answer
Sorry hun, nothing on this planet is ever free. You can buy the toys separate from the happy meal, and I think they are around $2.50 or so but don't quote me. I also know that if the toy is a big ticket item like the Beany Baby fad a few years ago then they may not let you buy one by itself but only with the happy meal. That happened at my local MacD's, but they would let you buy the toddler toys separate if you wanted a toy by itself.

Do you feel just a little guilty when you throw your kids' toys away or give them to the goodwill?

fluff_ball

You know how they always whine when you get rid of stuff? Do you ever feel bad?

Answer
I feel really bad....but you need to get rid of toys so they dont pile up. My kids had so many toys especially little happy meal ones. I went through their room when they werent home and got rid of a bunch. The good thing about kids is that they really dont remember all the little toys so it is eaiser to get rid of them. Do they even play with half of them...? LOL mine dont. Dont feel bad its better to have a few amount of toys for them and keep the ones that they will play with all the time. Trust me they will forgive you later.

I have this bulletin board in my play school. I want to but a few quotes about play school, which inspires kids and parents, etc. Please help asap.

Answer
â¢When dealing with children, praise more, criticize less.

â¢Never say no to a gift from a child.

â¢Your children get only one childhood; think of this when you âdonât have timeâ to play, hug, kiss, and express your love for them. Make time for Iâm sorry, Iâm listening, I love you.

â¢You is smart, you is kind, you is important. [Kathryn Stockett in The Help]

â¢Children need models rather than critics. [Joseph Joubert (1754-1824)]

â¢You teach people how to treat you. It starts when your children are born. If you tolerate poor behavior, your kids will expect to get away with deplorable actions.

â¢There are two things you can and should give your child: roots and wings.

â¢Eliminate toy clutter. Children of all ages will play more creatively and independently with five toys than they will with 50.... Fewer toys allow a child to focus more effectively.... [John Rosemond in âLiving With Childrenâ 2011]

â¢Dealing with kids: It takes a thousand âattaboysâ to erase a single âyou're not good enough.â [Dr. Phil 2/12]

â¢A parentâs time is the coin of childhood. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Children are our future: raise them with love and discipline; teach them respect and kindness.

â¢Children are natural mimics who act like their parents despite every effort to teach them good manners.

â¢Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word-for-word what you shouldn't have said.

â¢A child who learns to manage a little courtesy, even under pressure, is a child who is operating well in the world, a child with a positive prognosis.

â¢Thereâs nothing that can help you understand your beliefs more than trying to explain them to an inquisitive child. [Frank A. Clark]

â¢Treat the Earth well: it was not given to you by your parents; it was lent to you by your children. [Kenyan proverb]

â¢Manners (otherwise known as âsocial skillsâ) are at the heart of the whole parental enterprise. Every infant is born adorable but selfish and the center of the universe. Itâs a parentâs job to teach children that there are other people, and that others have feelings that can be hurt.

â¢We are all children sometimes, in our heart of hearts. [Jude Morgan in Charlotte and Emily]

â¢Little child, little problems; big child, big problems. [Anna Quindlen in Every Last One]

â¢We don't get most of our fears as adults; we bring them from childhood. [David Wiltse in Close to the Bone]

â¢Itâs easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. [Frederick Douglas]

â¢Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, you should cherish every moment and realize that the wonderment growing inside you is the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle. [Erma Bombeck (1927-1996)] (baby, childbirth, life)

â¢In the same way that you cannot choose your parents, neither can you choose your children. [idea from âThe Talented Mr. Ripleyâ]

â¢Fill a childâs bucket of self-esteem so full that the rest of the world canât poke enough holes in it to drain it dry.

â¢The only role models who have an actual impact are the ones at home at your dinner table.

â¢God should double your patience when you marry and triple it when you have children. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Spare the rod and spoil the child is a warning, not a commandment.

â¢Even children have good ideas sometimes, probably because they have not yet learned prejudice and obfuscation, and do not screen their possibilities. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢If you truly love your children, give them more time than anything else. Your time is really all you have that is genuinely yours to give. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Remember: What you do, what you say, how you listen, what you allow to happen in your family and household is the attitude and behavior you are modeling for your children that they will absorb and apply to their own lives in the future. {Alema Pequoia}

â¢Pay attentionâreal attentionâto a small child. The adults who did that when you were a kid are probably your role models.

â¢Parental Commandments: Be consistent. Actions have consequences. Say what you mean and mean it. Parents work together as a team. Don't make promises you can't keep. Listen to your children. Establish a routine. Respect is a two-way street. Positive reinforcement works much better than negative reinforcement. Manners are universal. Define your role as parents.

Best toy for a 1 year old?

Q. From experience what do you think is the best toy for a 1 year old? My son's birthday is coming up and I want to get him something he will really enjoy. Thank you.

Answer
All kids of that age like music, and Fisher Price has a some nice toys that aren't too obnoxious. There's always the obvious choice of a toy truck, like a big classic tonka truck. Wagons are good. A toy that all of my kids liked/like is the Little Tikes Endless Adventures Sand and Water Table. It's a great outside toy.

My 1 year old child doesn't seem to kid like toys.?

Chris

He's been crawling for a while and can pull himself up against things and stand. He seems to not really have any interest in his toys and prefers crawling around all day looking at bits of fluff on the floor.

Answer
Sounds normal enough, do you sit on the floor & play with him? This is very important you can't expect him to play with the toys himself he will follow your lead. What toys does he have? Kids this age love things they can push button on & that jangle & make noises.

Toy ideas for a ferret that hates toys?

D

My new guy (3 months old) does not like toys. The only thing I have seen him play with is: running through tubes, my moving feet, and plastic bags. I have tried plush toys, swinging balls, jingley bells, etc. Even if I wiggle the toy around- he has no interest and goes for my hands or feet instead. He does not bite or chew or scratch anywhere. He also will not eat treats --yet :)
Basically all he does is runs laps around the room for 2 hours or crawls around on my shoulder.

Any ideas on toys/ interactive entertainment? I have never dealt with a ferret who has no interest in 99% of toys.

Answer
SNAP!!!!
I have 2 fur kids and they're not interested in toys much at all. Freddie LOVES tubes, my husband is a carpet fitter so we have access to the old carpet tubes and he realy likes them. He also likes the cat teasers you can get but that's about it really. Hattie couldn't care less about any toys, she is only interested in getting into mischief and finding the smallest hole to crawl into! Because of this I try and put things like old boxes, plastic and paper bags, anything smelly down on the floor for her to nosy at! They both do like towel rides though, just shake it at them and they dance and dook then jump on for a ride!!
Don't worry too much just keep trying things as long as they're not too expensive and anyways your ferret will love you the best cos you're his fave toy!! Good luck xx

Craft Ideas For Kids, Please?

emo.cherri

Please read the whole thing before responding!

I would like any links to sites or even ideas for fun crafts for two boys, aged 11 and 8. I would prefer it to be either something fun and simple that can be tossed relatively quickly, or something practical that allows them to use their creativity and the item can be kept for a while. I've already found a bunch of sites for "crafts for kids" but they are either too elementary for them or something like that; I mean really, how many pipe-cleaner bugs and painted pictures can you make?

This is optional, but the older one is really into science and chemistry, and the way things work and whatnot. The younger one loves to paint and likes things that are fun and interactive. I'd love things for both of them to work on!

Thank you for suggestions.

Answer
Here is what I answered a while back. I know there may be stuff you don't want, but they may generate some lateral ideas, hence .....

Firstly, though, for science toys - here's a site I love :
http://scitoys.com
But a few more in that category --
http://www.sciencetoymaker.org/
http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryactivities/tp/makesciencetoys.htm
http://www.thelivingweb.net/science_toys.html
http://www.arvindguptatoys.com/toys.html

If the 'toy'/activity is "easy", you can always convert it into a competition, giving the younger kid some sort of headstart or handicap points. This will spice up Any activity ;-)

Also, let the kids Choose for themselves, at least occasionally. Let them choose & then you can all decide together whether it should be done, it's relevance, etc. etc.
Also, they should try to unravel the scientific principle behind each 'toy'.
Here's another site that the boys can browse through if they want to make something in particular :
www.howstuffworks.com

Other activities :
- papier mache toys/articles/dinosaurs.. www.artattack.co.uk This site some great stuff - just click on particular icons for detailed instructions.
- origami models including dragons, etc. www.origami-resource-center.com/
- mini scrapbooks [of what they've done during the summer ;-))] www.papercraftcentral.com
- cartoon-drawing
- puppet-making & staging a play with those puppets. you could try various kinds of puppets like marionettes, shadow, sock, string, etc.
- creating characters & weaving a story with them. each kid can also choose one character from any book he's read & together, create a new story.
- make science toys â kaleidocycles , permanent rainbow, homemade icecream maker, etc. http://scitoys.com
- recycled crafts
- clay-modeling
- go for nature walks
- make collage from various stuff like paper, fabric & things picked up during their nature walks like twigs, flowers, bugs, ....
- make own stickers
to make a sticker you will need - gelatin and a picture to make a sticker.
mix 2 or 3 spoons of gelatin with water. apply the mixed gelatin to the back of the picture. let it dry for some time. your sticker is ready!
lick the place where u applied the gelatin and stick whereever you want. mix any essense with the gelatin and apply the mixed gelatin behind the picture so that you get a sweet smell.
- leaf-printing -- select a few nicely shaped leaves from your collection. coat them with some thick water color & use as stamp-prints.
if you use acrylic paint, then you can do this on fabric & use the fabric for their bed linen.
- similarly, slice different types of vegetables [okra, cucumber, onion - horizontal or vertical, celery, capsicum, ....], dip the cut surface in paint & use to print. again, if you want to do it on fabric, use fabric colors.
- modelling with play-doh, clay, etc.
- make letters from the clay & write their names with them. adhere them to a piece of wood or plastic - they will have made their name-plates to hang on their door.
- look for some empty plastic bottles - diff shapes & sizes. you can also keep the moulds that come in biscuit packets, etc. make little boats, ships, rafts out of these by sticking a wooden skewer mast with paper/fabric sails. sail them in water tubs.
- fill nicely shaped bottles & jars with different stuff such as marbles, shells, trinkets, buttons, beads, pebbles, etc. in layers. You can also add some stationery articles if you like. Tie a satin ribbon or glue the ribbon in attractive design around the bottle or adorn with anything you like.
- convert pingpong or Styrofoam balls into animals, or other tree decorations by adorning with sequins, etc.
- cut paper strips [tapering towards one end] & roll into beads. you can use glossy magazine paper, crepe paper, kite paper, origami paper, etc. Roll over a skewer stick to get the hollow bead. Use these to make fake jewelry or to string along for hanging tree ornaments, etc.
- make paper buntings - fold paper & cut into triangles on one side, or cut rectangular strips & link each strip like a chain. again, you can use light-weight paper..
- spray painting - use brush or comb
- sponge painting
- string painting - dip yarn/strings in different water color solutions. place haphazardly on card paper, with one end sticking out. place another card over it. hold them tightly. then, just pull the strings out. when you lift the card, you'll have Two greeting cards with random patterns!
- make tree ornaments or little bugs, beetles, etc. with walnut shells.
- make door signs, photo/picture frames, etc.

www.artattack.co.uk

what toys can make my kids smarter? age - 3 to 8?

sheel47157

Answer
My kids have a V-Smile console. They love it. It supports a wider variety of games than leapfrog. But all the games are learning games. They have disney and nickelodeon games so kids will be more apt to play when they see its a dora the explorer game or winney the pooh game... Also for kids closer to 7-8 years age they have spongebob and other games with titles like that. Leapfrog videos I suggest but for games I suggest a V-Smile.

Kids and toys?

I have one daughter age of 7 and one step-son he is 10 and they both are always fighting over toys. how can I teach them to share?

Answer
1.Tell them about the poor kids who wish they had these toys!
2.Let them play with the toys at different times!
3.Take their toys away until they learn to share!
4.Show them how it feels when someone refuses to share with them
Example:Go buy something like a toy that both of them wants and say it yours and when they ask to play with it you say so you want me to share?( Then they are suppose to say yes)(they may not but if they do)!You say no im not sharing my toy! Then if they ask why then say becasue you guys dont know how to share! Then ask them how they felt when you said that you are not sharing your toy! Then say well thats how each of yall feel when yall dont share you make a person sad because ou wont share! If this doesnt work sorry with my kids it did!

Tips for baby-sitting 5 kids of all ages?

Julia

In a few days I'm going to be baby-sitting five kids. I'm sitting for: two 4 year old girls, one 5 year old boy, one 2 month old girl and one 9 month old boy. I want to know if anyone has any tips for: toys to bring for the 4 and 5 year olds, ways to keep the older kids busy while i tend to the little ones, fun art projects for the older kids. Thank you so much! :)
PS: the kids are my cousins but the 5 year old (and his 2 month old sister) live in Washington DC (i live in Minnesota) and the 4 year olds see him very much so if anyone has any ideas to have them all playing together and getting to know each other.
THANKS SO MUCH :D IT'S GOING TO BE A BIG JOB SO ANYTHING HELPS :D :) :D :) :D :)

Answer
I use to keep a group of kids all diff. ages during my late teens.

What I usually did was ask the older kids if they could help me. Most kids under 5 love this. So you can ask the 4yr old girls & 5yr old boy to be your special helpers. They'll feel important.

The 2mt old most likely will sleep a lot so make sure you have a baby monitor or something to hear her.
The 9mt old may be crawling so you need to keep an eye on him/her too.

I wouldn't suggest art projects. The 9mt old could find one of the small items and choke on it.

Playing outside while you watch will help get out most of their energy. Keep a baby monitor on so you can hear sleeping babies.

Coloring with crayons will keep them busy too just keep a basket for the crayons so they don't roll off the table since the 9mt old could get one and chew on it.

When the babies sleep you can read books to the kids then maybe after the story they could draw their favorite parts.

30mins videos work well too when you are busy with the babies.

Toys for Kids Area...ages 3 Months to 12 Years?

brfloridab

work in a kids area of a fitness club that is non-profit. We rely mainly on donations to keep the kids entertained and we're short on toys again. They either disappear or they have broken peices so they need to be discarded. We aren't allowed to ask the general public for donations, so my co-workers and I have been taking turns bringing in stuff. This year, my Christmas donation is going to be oversized Legos as we need something that is safe for kids ages 3 months to age 12. It's difficult to find gender neutral toys or things that girls can play with as Barbies around allowed as the small kids can put the hair into their mouths on the dolls. We mostly have Happy Meal toys right now as those are cheap and have been donated.

What are some good toys for both genders? We have Transformers and little robots and cars for the boys, but we need some stuff for the girls. I was thinking about plastic play food, but that's only good for kids to like age 5. What can we get for the older kids so they don't get too bored? It seems past age 8 they're all "technology kids" and video games and hand held electronics aren't allowed to be brought in to the Kids Klub since we've had things break and get stolen. Any ideas are most appreciated. Thank You!!

Answer
You really do great work.

I think some blocks toys, building toys and pretending toys and figure toys would be okay.

Good luck to you. :)

Boys having girls toys.?

BABY BOY!

Do you think its ok to give your toddler son a pram, doll or doll house ect...along with others of course? i know many mothers who have...but my nephews grandmother seems to think its wrong and that he'll turn out gay ir sumthin!!! in my opinion if he turnt out gay it wouldnt have anything to do with the fact of giving him that when he was younger!!!

Answer
It's fine. I have three boys and my youngest who is 3 started playing with this baby doll and carrying it around the house ever since he found out I was pregnant with a baby girl. We also have one of my old doll houses in their playroom and he uses it as a "secret hide out" for his action figures. My husband finds it a little weird, but it's not the end of the world nor is it going to make someone gay. If that were true, there wouldn't be that many straight guys today. You'd be surprised at the number of men who played with dolls, dress up clothing, barbies, cribs etc. They grow out of it just likes girls eventually grow out of the stage themselves.
Best wishes =]

Toddler Art Projects?

Emily

I have 2 18m old little boys...they just eat crayons and have absolutely no use for them...they love to paint, but they get bored after a while....what are some fun art things i can do with them at this age?

Thanks!

Answer
Start an alphabet collage with your toddler. Go through old magazines and have them cut out letters from the titles of articles. These will generally be much larger and will be easier for your toddler to cut out. Glue the same letter on a sheet of paper, and then go back through the magazine looking for pictures of items starting with that letter. For instance, A - apple, alligator, adding machine, etc. You'll end up with 26 pages, one for each letter, as well as a front cover and back cover. Your toddler will begin to learn their letters and the sounds the letters make.

Paint rocks

Making Tracks: Lay down newspaper on the table or get your art table ready for a paint project. Find one or more old or little-used toy cars or trucks with ridges on the wheels. On a piece of scrap paper, put down a few small dollops of paint in different colors. Then give your toddler a big piece of construction paper for the âroad.â Have him âdriveâ the car through one color of paint, then âdriveâ the car across his page, making colored tracks. Repeat with a different color or another vehicle with different track marks.

Vegetable and fruit printing. Cut a variety of fruit and vegetables in half. Put a little paint in a few plates and show your toddler how to print them on paper.

Mosaic-Rip up a variety of colored paper and have them glue the pieces together to make a picture.

Barbie ride on toys for kids?

robin

For a little girl 4yo who loves Barbie and loves to ride car I think a Barbie ride-on toy will make a perfect gift. It can be pedal car or a battery-operated one. Any suggestion?

Answer
I would recommend a Power Wheels vehicle, if you have the money to spend on one, however, something to keep in mind is that the ideal age for Power Wheels vehicles is 3-5 years old, so your daughter might outgrow it before she gets much use out of it.

Power Wheels Fisher Price Barbie Mustang retails for approximately $250

Power Wheels Fisher Price Barbie Jammin Jeep retails for approximately $240

Power Wheels Fisher-Price Barbie Kawasaki KFX with Monster Traction retails for approximately $175

Best/favourite toys from newborn - 6 months?

Bogan Mum

Im expecting my second in november. A girl. For some reason i can not find any of my sons toys! They must be somewhere but i cant find them. So i might just buy a few. So im just wondering what toys did you baby love and what ones do you think are the best?

Also with those activity mat things. Where you have the colourful mat and then the bars with hanging toys toys, are there any special things to look for that would make one better than another? My son never had one so i dont know what to look for in one and i know if i ask in the store they will talk me into the most expensive one, lol

Answer
I went through a lot of activity mats before I got a good one. I took back 3 of them because they held no interest and/or the music was so bad I couldn't stand it. Here is the one I kept http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2744546
It cost more than most but is worth the extra money because its so versatile. You can use it as a travel bed or nap mat and it will keep your infant contained until they are crawling. The important thing with the mat is to get a good musical light up toy on it. This one has a lady bug that is just mesmerizing to babies. We would attach it to the car, crib, stroller, and he never got sick of it.

Other than that my kid's favorite toys at 6 months were ones that had lights and music and were easy to activate and small rattles and other noisemakers. He also loved cloth books that crinkled and toys with mirrors.

6 month anniversary?

charlotter

What do i buy my 25 year old boyfriend for our 6 month anniversary. Relationship is quite serious and my budget is open to suggestions. I have no idea what is appropriate but i dont want to give him anything too big as we'll be on holiday when it passes.

Answer
I never head of 6-month anniversary present issues. But, if this relationship is really as serious as you say, instead of presents, why don't and he sit down together, talk about something the two of you can do together as a couple of more than 6 months?

One of my favorite times when my husband and I were dating was when we both prepared one of those old-fashioned picnics, complete with picnic basket, small hibachi, and we each made our own favorite dish to bring along, plus one toy or game we remember doing as a kid during a picnic (my husband brought a kite - me, the geek, I brought an old Trivial Pursuit game). It's a wonderful way to find out something about the other person that perhaps we weren't aware of. And it's something that you'll never be too old to do.

If you'll be on holiday, have the local restaurant/delicatessan (sp)/bed-and-breakfast help you prepare a basket.

Enjoy and congratulations!

does anyone know about a steamroller kids riding toy that was on the Waltons TV show in the General Store.?

fuzzy

I was looking for who made it and a possible value

Answer
I did some researching on your great question and have come to the conclusion that it is a Marx rehash/custom toy made for the Walton's TV show. Similar how they did the radio on Gilligan's Island. They took an existing toy and rehashed/tweaked it too look like a different toy. I am still curious.

what ride on toys can be ridden on street.?

Bill S

My boys have always had the ride on toys that go 5 MPH.. Last year we purchased a Razor Electric 4 wheeler that goes 8MPH or so... Never had a complaint about riding it in the culdesac, but now Im looking at buying a gas 4 wheeler, but it too can be limited to the 8 MPH range,, does anyone know the legal issues of the kids ride on toys?

Answer
Hi there. I am an adult scooter enthusiast. I've built/re-built many. Currently, I have a 6+HP stand up scooter, an Electric stand-up, and a weird little thing called a runt bike with a 4hp engine.

You really have to check your state's dmv code. You can usually do this online. A ssearchwithin the site of "moped" often brings-up the type of information you need.

That said-- usually, if it has a seat, it can't be ridden on the street. This is because most municipalities do not want ATVs, snowmobiles, and dirt bikes causing havoc, and the llittletoys fall into that classification.

That said, most of the time, a below 49cc engine with a top speed below 30mph is legal for stand-up toys.

The gas engine models attract more attention, because of the noise. I've never had a problem in my state. I have been "pulled-over" a few times, but it was all good in the end. Once, i was told to get a headlight. Another time, the officer suggested I do something about the noise. My fastest model cruises far above the legal limit, so I'm just careful about how/where I ride it.

Again, check with your state's dmv.
