I have three kids ages 5, 9, and 12. They have tons of toys and games. I know it's only June but am already thinking of some great presents that they would really love.

Answer
Books. I have three kids about the same ages as yours. They also have plenty of toys and games. What's great about a book is that it's compact, portable, inexpensive, doesn't require batteries and provides hours of entertainment on long car/plane trips :-)

How do you keep a spotless house with 3 kids?

Girliegirl

Kids are age 7, 5, and 3
Shlynn at the moment that's exactly what I am doing but I still have the clutter I'm trying to organize yet cooking dinner every night and keeping the house clean (not spotless) is exhausting. I notice I swept about five times a day as well as mop that often too. And a load of laundry every day or every other day sigh

Answer
We have 5 kids and our home is pretty spotless, and yes it's lived in,not treated like a jungle gym. There is a difference. We don't restrict the kids from going into any part, but we do restrict what occurs in the rooms, in the house for that matter.

The kids are small so we eat breakfast and lunch in the kitchen and dinner in the dinning room. They aren't allowed to have toys all over. Aside from the nursery, We keep the baby's toys in ottomans in the great room and family room only. Running is for outside. They can run around on the lower level, some! Five and up, they clean their own rooms.

I run a Roomba vacuum over night in the great room where we tend to gather. We don't go to bed unless the kitchen is cleaned and we don't leave in the morning unless its picked up. We don't come downstairs in the morning with unmade beds. Five and up are responsible for cleaning their rooms.

Set some rules and a cleaning schedule.

Can I ask a judge in Indiana to release jurisdiction to North Carolina?

the best kids toys 2012
on Best Kids Toys Find the Top Toys for Your Kids
the best kids toys 2012 image

Momma3huma

Current order:
Joint Custody when distance is a factor. Rotation of six months here in NC and six months in Indiana. We were suppose to go back to Court earlier this year. My ex said we will work it out we don't need to go to court. During my current six months that is suppose to end January 15th 2014 for his rotation both of my children had to go to school since my oldest is now kindergarten age. My ex agreed to let me enroll the kids in school for this year. He wants them for next year as in he wants them for school. I did not agree with him and did not verbally say I agree or say it in writing either. He had to give them to me its in the court order for my six months. I want to change the Indiana jurisdiction to North Carolina since the children are enrolled here in school. My reason for asking is because it would make the kids miss a whole lot of school just to go back and forth to Indiana for court.

More Background info on my ex:
He does not have a stable home moves a few times a year, refuses to give me child support (no current order for it, so I filed for it in NC), during his six months of custody I send things to our kids (clothes, toys, food) so does my mother and our extended family. I asked him to help provide our daughter a coat because in January when he got them back I sent her with a very nice coat. When they came back in July, asked him to bring their coats, and their clothes that we sent and toys. We received them with just the clothes on their backs, and their coats. My daughter's coat was in horrendous condition and I couldn't even give it to goodwill. He said he would buy her a new coat. I waited an entire month (because he only sees them on skype once a month when its convenient for him, I never ever tell him no when he wants to see them but it is not my place to remind him he has kids) and he tells me he didn't have the money. He lives with his dad and might pay a few bills sure. I understand you have to help if you live with someone. He isn't forced to pay child support currently. He can not have so many bills that he cant take twenty dollars and buy his youngin a coat. He has never had to ask me for anything for the kids, it was provided. He hasn't sent them one thing while they were here at any point in time. For four months (2012) during my first six months he didn't even call them one time. If I bring up child support I get screamed at. So when he decided to take a month to tell me he didnt have twenty dollars to buy his daughter a coat, I filed for child support.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Answer
You would have to file a motion in Indiana to get it moved, and he's going to oppose that and since you are 50/50 there is no reason other than your convenience to move it. The kids don't miss school to go to court, they hardly ever have to go.

6 month rotation won't work for school age kids, so you'll need to go to court and modify the schedule and you should ask for child support at the same time. Get this done before 1st grade. You can probably expect he'll get summers and most holidays since you are asking for the whole school year.

You need to accept that he is a deadbeat. Don't expect the kids to come back with anything. Just set your expectations at zero and then you won't be disappointed. As the kids get older they'll want more expensive things like ipods and phones...don't allow them to take them to dad's house unless you are planning to replace them anyway.

what can kids bring to kindergarden when they sleep?

Anastasiya

my cousin is going to kindergarden next year ( 2012) and we were wondering, can she bring a pillow pet, blancket, with her when she sleeps? what can we do to help her get ready for school? she is 3 almost 4 in a month and 2 days. thank you! if u have any other advice, please tell me! Thank you!

Answer
Check with your school's policy.

I would bring a blanket (nothing new, old blankets from home can be comforting), a stuffed animal for comfort (again from home), and a small healthy snack. Also, a good sturdy container for drinks. Some good choices would be:

-Apple
-Banana
-Carrots and dip
-Apple juice
-Orange
-Grapes
-Blueberries
-Orange juice
-Milk or chocolate milk

Also, as a friendly reminder, if you must by new products, try buying organic or eco-friendly. Many hidden toxins are present in toys that you don't know about it. Here's a good site with cute blankets and the best stuffed animals :)

We must have been getting all the previous gifts right because this year he cant think of anything he wants! Bar one toy and a couple books
His birthday is two weeks after xmas so I do want to get him something special and skylanders isnt my ideal special gift

So please leave some suggestions or maybe tell me what you are buying or bought in the past a special nine year old kid for xmas

- Hes a bright kid, loves reading, movies, games usual stuff
Is a bit restricted playing outside as living in central London and already has a bike
Hes got a wicked sense of humour
Loves his stage school at weekends, singing, dancing and acting

Please help give me ideas!
=)
Ahh I should have said sorry JU and thanks too but no pets allowed in our tenancy agreement he is the perfect age for that though, sadly we cant

Answer
A trip to the theatre to see a show. If you have not already seen it I would recommend The Lion King. A special day out perhaps when the weather is better.

If not then just be glad that your child is not motivated by greed and what he can get. Just buy him what he has asked for and tell him you love him. Tell him that you are happy to get him a gift later in the year when he has decided what he wants.

Perhaps and Ipod with some children's stories already downloaded on it and some music by his favourite band or just a gift card so that he can choose his own from itunes with you.

My son often found it hard to decide what gift he would like for Christmas and one year when he was very young he only wanted a Postman Pat Toy so I got him it. He was delighted nothing else really mattered to him.

What toys would an eight year old boy want?

cookie que

I know nothing about this kid except that he is asking for a game boy or an mp3 player. This is going to be the only present he gets because he is not that fortunate. The present should be less then 45 dollars. Please don't suggest a book, because if it was going to be your only Christmas present, some people wouldn't want a book. Especially if you want a game boy or an mp3 player.

Answer
If he wants a gameboy then with $45 you could pick up a GBA for around 30 and some games for $10-15 if he is talking about a DS then that is a bit more now. Also MP3 players can be gotten for as little as $25 nowadays with $45 you can get him exactly what he wants. Hope this helps you and I wish you and him a very merry Xmas.

ps Here is a link to a player that I used for 4-5 years still very solid

Is Lucas Arts going to make any more Star Wars movies?

best toys for kids in 2012 image

I think all of the star wars movies are great, but what happens after Luke save the galaxy?? Some people would like to know. I have read stories of him and Leia getting getting married and having kids but i don't like to read books i want to watch it in a action film.

Answer
Unfortunately no amount of "waiting, or kicking back, or being patient" will change the facts. The fact is that there will NOT be anymore live action Star Wars movies ... anyone who says differently is so full of it that it is pouring out of their ears. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the book series come out in an animated form, doubt it will be to theaters more likely direct to DVD things, but there will not be anymore live action movies.

We all know that Lucas has the ability to change his mind with the direction of the wind but in this case I think we can believe him. In the years since the release of ep III Lucas has been asked two questions over and over and over and over again ... first, will he ever make anymore Star Wars movies and will he allow someone else to pick up where he left off. For the past four years the answer to those two questions has never changed ... NO ... and ... NO ... that's about as close to written in stone as you can get from Lucas. It only came to light last year but shortly after the release of ep III Lucas made a "minor" change to his Will. Everybody still gets all the same "stuff" BUT it has a condition to it now ... if any one of them ever allows anyone to make more movies or remake the ones already done everybody looses everything. We are talking millions and millions of dollars here ... do you really think they will risk it ... neither do I.

I do have to say that this is the first time I've ever seen anybody "witching" about Luke and Mara getting married ... personally I thought they were the perfect couple.

The future of Star Wars is animation ... the current series is running full steam ahead and will be around for a long time ... the live action TV series set in between ep III and ep IV is on track to debut in the fall of 2010 ... Lucas is still looking at the target date of 2012 to bring all 6 movies back to theaters in a true 3-D format. There's a ton of stuff that will be going on in the Star Wars world but none of that stuff will be new movies ... ticks me off too but George owns it all lock stock and barrel and what he says goes.

May The Force Be With You ...

EDIT: To "Boba Fett": Not really ... lol ... keeps my point total up. Now the "reboot" Star Wars questions ... hell hath no fury like an old school fan having his memories messed with ...

EDIT 2: Unless Lucas changes his mind ... then I'll be just another idiot who took him at his word and got hosed again ... I think might have to grab my toy lightsabres and go have a "talk" with the man if he does that ... lol ... but only after he's done making the new movies of course.

.

Do I need to cement into the ground a new wooden swingset?

NNAY

My husband is building our kids a wooden swingset and he told me that he isn't going to dig into the ground and cement it in as it will be heavy enough. I'm not sure if he's trying to be lazy but feel it would need to be buried and cemented in. The one we're building is at this url: http://www.swing-n-slide.com/timberbilt/pinebluffa.htm except ours will be 16 feet long instead of 12 feet long enabling a few more toys on it for the kids.
Should this be cemented into the ground? Or can it just be anchored in and be secure enough?

Answer
With all due respect to the other 9 answers I have a suggestion.

At the very least the "anchors" to the sing set posts shoule be perpendicular to the posts buried, NOT just concrete added at the same angle to bury the posts in

What kind of toys do you prefer for your toddler, wooden toys or plastic toys?

harold

I'm curious to the type of toy material that parents prefer to buy for their toddlers?

Answer
Hi Harold,

I tend to have a strong liking for wood toys that are of excellent quality, but find that wooden toys are generally limited to blocks, puzzles and some very expensive hand made train sets. Some of the best wooden blocks on the market are Melissa & Doug's Standard Unit Blocks:

http://www.kids-toys-parents-love.com/standard_unit_blocks.html

They have other great wooden puzzle sets, and ImagiPlay makes an earth friendly dinosaur puzzle with non toxic paint: http://www.kids-toys-parents-love.com/Dinosaur_puzzles.html

Most of the toys we get for our kids are plastic, primarily because of selection and availability. They definitely are easier to disinfect and last just as long as the wood toys.

Most of the concerns over quality come from the massive 2007 recall from plastic toys manufactured in China containing lead and cadmium metals!! Besides keeping manufacturing jobs closer to home, companies like Little Tikes, Step 2 and Kid K'Nex keep a tight control over quality and materials. For toddlers, Little Tikes and Step 2 offer a wide variety of American made toys manufactured in Ohio, while Kid K'Nex is a great company for older kids who love creative building.

http://www.kids-toys-parents-love.com/Little_Tikes_Toys.html
http://www.kids-toys-parents-love.com/Step_2_Toys.html
http://www.kids-toys-parents-love.com/Kid_KNex.html

So in answering your questions, I prefer wooden toys, but availability and selection keeps our toy collection at 90% plastic and 10% wood.

Hopes this helps, and have fun playing with wood or plastic toys with your toddler!!

Where are good ideas for Christmas present for kids?

Jasmine

I have 4 neices/nephews from 3 to 10. Where's a good place to get ideas for gifts for Christmas? And is it better to buy online or fight the lines of Black Friday?

Answer
There are many lists put out by different toy stores, kids magazines, etc.

There is the Toys R Us Fabulous 15:
http://www.santaschristmascorner.com/toys-r-us-fabulous-15-toys-r-us-2012-holiday-hot-toy-list/

Also, K-Mart has it's own Fab 15 list:
http://www.santaschristmascorner.com/k-mart-top-15-christmas-toys-for-2012-part-1/

There are others, but I don't know the URLs off the top of my head.

As far as online vs black friday, I personally shop online. One, I don't like to get up early. Two, I don't like being trampled by people trying to get the 3 TVs for the special price. And Three, you will usually find bargains just as good or nearly as good online if you keep your eyes open.

scorpio female saggitarius male break up?

Brianna

I question how do i cope with a break up, im a scorpio female (nov.12) hes a sagg. (Dec 4)
Story: i met my ex in marching band (both reletively the same section) and we spent a bunch of time together so oddly enough i developed a crush which rarely happens. I mean he was flirting quite a bit, it was disgusting but more nice and gentle (i cant explain it exactly but it wasnt like oh *inappropriate joke* like kids now a days but like a little nudge or a long hug or he'd play with my hand) and he'd always show up when i'd wander off by myself just to be nice and keep me company well. Somewhere at the end of the season (which just ended) i decided well hey i wonder if i ask for his nunber and talked to him more then maybe something will flourish (?). Well it did and we started datin on my brothers birthday and it lasted for a month and 1/2, during this month people would crowd us saying you too are so cute etc. And they were so excited just seeing us hold hands and they'd constantly ask how long, and they would point and smile when we held hands or kissed each others cheeks. He was soo sweet to me and such a gentleman and he was so helpful like you dont understand he didnt cuss, he keeps his grades up with 95+, he pushed me to do better in whatever i did etc....long story short everything was so good but i noticed that also in that month he started talking to me less but i figured it was because he was gaming (he got a new game for his birthday and often played it with our other friend) so i let him play in peace while i tried to distract myself for a little bit. Well that week ended cause we had school ( we were on fall break when this happened). So we met up at school again we talked but not as much because we never really found common ground (we're basically polr opposites with some common intrest) so obviously we didnt talk alot. It was either him listening to me ramble about funny things or just a peaceful silence.-random jump in the story again- well we finished marching band and we had a christmas party well we cuddled and what not. And i honestly thought nothing was wrong until monday morning came (12-9-13) and i went over to where he practiced in the bandroom just for a minute just to show him this new toy i got cause it was a trex and it was cute. But anyway i showed him and he stopped practicing and said ' ive been thinking' i questioned it and he said about us. Then proceeded to say that he lost feeling and he waited to see if he would gain feeling back but he didnt. Then said that the farther that we got into it he realized that we didnt have alot in common ( like i said before we even started dating) and i said yea and looked away sorta then i said ok, i put my little dino and walked out. Then i cried in my first period.about 7 random people that i rarely talked to came up and gave me a long hug along with one of my best friends. Everyone was suprised because i rarely get upset.... i dont know how to cope with all of this because he wants to be friends but i just want to be left alone. Because right now i want to be mad but i cant be i have no legit reason, so for the past 2 days ive cried non stop whenever i got alone and felt like such a failure because i have terrible communication skills (gotten so used to being solitary that i had to open up in order to try and find common ground and not push him away) ,i failed to realize that i was wasting my time etc. In all honesty i feel as though im not good enough and i felt it before but hee genuinely made me happy and added such a spar in my eyes that now its obvious to everyone that my eyes are as dull before. Like i have no purpose once again but to continue to get better in band because i really want earn a spot in our top band next year. ...i shouldnt feel so down but i felt so happy and like someone thought i was worth their time. Like how do i cope with it? Without getting mad and without dwelling on it. Because he honestly thinks im perfectly fine but my eyes as of right now are bloodshot and burning from all the excessive tears and wiping them away hoping i'll stop sooner or later.
Im sorry for the excessive text and random story jumps, i just really want to understand how to cope with it.
Umm im a scorpio sun,libra rising,aries moon,
Hes a saggitaius sun and virgo moon idk his rising sign
And lastly i if anyone was wondering no i didnt restrain his i let him be with his friends etc. I let him have his freedom even when i got slightly jealous i stayed quiet about it to avoid conflict

-Build a Fort
-Play Spy
-Play Red Light Green light, Hide and go seek

So tell me what you want for Christmas!
Doesn't matter what it is!

Whoever's list is my favorite will get the ten points and a special surprise!

Answer
I want for everyone to be happy & enjoy their holidays. It's great that you want to give to others. I participated in the Angel Tree program myself & bought my child a book, couple of board games, outfit, & backpack. I also try to donate to the Salvation Army every time I approach a red bucket. It feels awesome knowing that it benefits to someone in need. :)

Of course, there's nothing wrong with wishing for materialistic things as well (unless it becomes an obsession). I already know nearly everything I'm receiving (three books, four DVDs, a DVD set, some Bath & Body Works stuff, 2010 calendar, etc.), but there is still $30 left in the budget my parents set for me. I think I'm going to ask for The Beatles Trivial Pursuit, which is $25 on Amazon. I'll just tell them to get me whatever with the leftover $5.

Happy holidays! =) Please forgive my long answer, haha.

What are some toys that kids ages 6-12 can play with together? There is also a 1 1/2 year old. Preferably something that can be played with outside and at least 4 or 5 kids can play with at a time or take turns playing. Something the 1 1/2 year old would enjoy too if you can possibly think of anything to fit with that age. We are already buying a slipping slide and sand toys. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Something that isn't very expensive either. Thanks.

I worked at what's called "After School Care", where we deal with primary school kids (aged 4 to 12) before and after school, and during the school holidays. The majority of the kids that we work with are pretty relaxed- between all of the toys and activities we arrange for them, visiting can be the highlight of their day.
Being in Australia, the new school year started in late January/early February, so the kids have all had time to settle down. However there is one particular child (she's in prep, so about aged four or five) that is still suffering from quite a lot of anxiety. She is clearly taking a lot longer than the other newcomers to settle in. For a while she found it difficult to separate herself from her Mum in the mornings (which resulted in tears), and in the afternoons she'd often end up crying about how much she missed her (which is understandable, what with her being so young and suddenly being away from the comfort of home 5 days a week). Thankfully we've managed to calm her down to the point where she isn't so worried about leaving her parents anymore.
Unfortunately, she seems to have taken a particular liking to one other staff member and myself (me in particular). When it comes time to walk her down to the classroom before school starts, she often becomes very clingy and breaks down into tears, and we usually end up having to pry her off our legs and over to her teacher. As for when she sees us wandering around the school, she'll often run over, bear hug you, and not want to let go.
She's an absolutely gorgeous little girl, and I always feel terrible for having to leave her feeling so anxious. I should also probably mention that she's rather frightened of the 12 year old boys, who are considerably larger (and a hell of a lot rougher) than she is.
We try to make her experience as relaxed as possible by engaging her in activities such as drawing or colouring in (which she adores), but what are some other things that can be done to try and calm her down, and make her a little happier about going off without us?

Dancing? music?

When did you infant start showing an interest in toys?

2 Little A

I bought so many toys that say birth plus. My son will be 7 weeks on Wednesday and he has shown ZERO interest in these birth plus toys, I put them up to him and shake the toys and push the lights on them and he just stares at the ceiling or at the lamps, never at the toys. When did your infant finally enjoy his toys?
I dont mind that he would rather look at ceilings and not his toys I just thought he needed all these toys since it says Birth on them and the packs they came in say that these toys have all these developmental benefits.

Answer
She had a Baby Einstein mat with a star suspended from the top which blinked multiple colors and played various classical songs and she loved that at one month. She would pay attention to it and even kick her legs in rhythm with some of the music. However, she did find the ceiling fan more interesting. The rest of her toys weren't interesting until she learned to work her hands on her own. And, to tell you the truth, most of the time, babies will find real world objects (like Mom's cellphone or keys) more interesting than the toys designed for them. My daughter's thing has been cat toys. We have little balls with bells in them for the cats, and a mouse the squeaks when you shake it. She would always find those more interesting than comparable infant/toddler toys for some reason. If I had known that in the beginning, I would have invested in cheap kitty toys. As it is, we go real simple with toys (mostly received as gifts). She is obsessed with books and balls and largely ignores toys except enjoying dumping them all over the floor, picking them up and putting them back...rinse and repeat.

What is the name of the toy that you see at restaurants and waiting rooms?

MaryKate

It is a colorful toy that you push beads along the colored loop-de-loop lines. Mainly for toddlers. Sorry if I cant explain it right.

Busy Beads, I think!

What else will the fading generations mess up and then blame Obama?

Growth vs.

Who sent our jobs to China etc.?
Who sold the bad loans to people?
Who allowed lead paint toys to get to our kids?
Who hires the illegals?
Who gave us High Fructose Corn Syrup for a tax cut?
Who buys feed from China causing kid killing eggs?
Who does not be safe before they drill?
Who wants to raise the retirement age on the youth?
Who hires people in at 7hr in 2010 when in 1998 it was 9hr.?

Answer
1.) Liberals
2.) Liberals
3.) Liberals
4.) Liberals love illegals
5.) Liberals love tax cuts for farmers
6.) Liberals love China, and Communism
7.) "does not be safe?" Did you have a Liberal grammar teacher?
8.) Liberals need people to work until they die to pay for Obamacare, car companies, toy arrow manufacturers, and socialism.
9.) The French... and Liberals.

As far as I can tell, liberals are blaming Bush for all of their failings. Obama tried to "fix" the job market with bailouts upon bailouts, but it was a failure, and now he blames Bush. Obama is going to blame Bush when Obamacare ends up costing even more than expected and doesn't work. That's just how things work. Either that.. or Obama will blame racism. He likes to bring up the "fact" that every time anyone opposes him it's racism.

Is a plasma ball a safe gadget for a ten year old boy to have?

I must admit that electricity scares the heck out of me, and I want to make sure that I'm not being overprotective. Are there any dangers to be aware of when giving one these lamps to a child (besides the obvious safe operation needed for any electrical device)?

Answer
Notwithstanding the fearmongering comments above, a plasma ball is perfectly safe. It will not generate waves or fields or anything else that would endanger a kid's life.

That said, a plasma ball is not particularly educational. If it inspires him to learn more, great, but if education is your objective, a kit of science or electronic projects would be a better choice.

Who do you believe will do better in creating higher paying jobs, Democrats or Republicans?

Alan

Both Democrats and Republicans agree on one thing for sure...we need more jobs! The problem is that they differ in how to create those higher paying jobs. Democrats believe in a Keynesian approach by increasing infrastructure spending by asking the upper class to share a higher percentage of the burden during a recession, and the Republicans seem to believe reducing taxes and regulations will stimulate entrepreneurship to create higher paying jobs. Both appear to have historical examples. I want to know which is the better example, and why?

Answer
Well this, "is so, so clear... Democrats "just love to spend" money on not just infrastructure, but like FDR, (back in a day) "create programs" that (were/are revelant) to "the needs" of the people during their time. Infrastructure, (is one great avenue) in job creation, but, the world "is ever changing", and at such a rapid pace from a technological standpoint, that America (as President Obama) has said, needs "to keep in step" with that profound fact, and beef up the "educational skills" in the way of technology and starting with our kids, like "the handle" we had on (making and creating) great cars... we need "to outbeat" the Asians, when it comes to "creativity with technology." We "need to produce" more Steve Jobs, that is all there is to it!!!!! (smile...)

**The Asians, "have us beat", (3 to 1) with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like Howard Hughes, said regarding aviation, "technology" (along with ecology/substainability) "is the wave" of the future, and that "is where" we need to go and be as Americans, here in the United States..."OUTDOING EVERYONE" ELSE. Also, it would not hurt, to utilize this "technology" for other uses, not just here in America, but world-wide like:

1. Aids/Medical Equipment
2. Environmental/Green Substainability
3. Food Sources
4. Automotive
5. Gadgets, of economic, effective and efficient use (like the Swedes and Germany)
and last but "most certainly" not least...
6. "EDUCATION, EDUCATION" AND "MORE EDUCATION", this also is why, "the creativity and ingenuity" is getting lost, on our part as America. Europeans somewhat, "laughs at us", from that end as well... (dah, never mind)

That is just a few thoughts and examples...(smile)

Aaron

For example how some girls like guys who could play guitar,or can cook, or guys who are good with kids.Girls, what skills or hobbies do yous personally like to see a guy do/know?

Answer
A guy who's good with kids is always a big bonus, there's something very attractive and endearing about a man who can show a kind, paternal and nurturing side towards children (including and especially children who aren't genetically his own)
As another poster said, it is instinctive for most women to look (at some point) for "father material" in a man so if he is a good provider and can interact well with children then he instantly scores some major points.

I like to see guys who are a bit adventurous in their hobbies, I'm an outdoor girl at heart and I'd love to see a guy that can enjoy hiking, camping, dirt biking, cave spelunking, diving, someone who could keep up and enjoy a bit of roughing it and risk taking. If I could find a guy that would go storm chasing with me on a major road trip across the USA, who'd stand on the ice and watch the northern lights or who'd stand next to the lava streams on Hawaii while we dared to get as close as possible then I'd consider him more than perfect.

If he's a guitar player than great, can he teach me? I have a guitar but I'm not too good yet, I could teach him keyboard/piano in exchange.
I admire guys that have the patience to teach as well as listen and learn, open-mindedness is a must.

Someone who understands the concept of personal space, he does his thing and I do mind, we don't always have to do them together and hours, days, weeks or even months apart does not necessarily mean that our relationship is going to the dogs.

I'm also a major geek/nerd at heart, I love gadgets and electronics. I could happily spend hours torturing some poor Sim on my computer or blowing the head off some enemy in a first person shoot-'em-up, I do not consider him a loser if he likes Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC etc. and do in fact enjoy a guy who's passionate in his interests.

Honestly I don't really care what type of interests he has as long as they're not illegal or seriously taboo and he's genuine about them.

I am doing a project in health called baby cost analysis. We are trying to find out how much it costs to take care of a child for the first year of life. I need a few ideas of what to put in. (like what foods, how many diapers you use, how much you spend on clothes that year, what furniture you buy, etc.) If you could help me out I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

Answer
Well i'd have to think about that actually! i have 4 kids, so ill just give you a run down of the starter supplies i got and then how much food, diapers and clothes i bought in ONE months time for just ONE child.

starter stuff-

12 oneses- pack of 4 cost $8
12 pack of socks- $4
12 jumpers 3 pack of jumpers-$8-$12
12 footless sleepers, 3 pack of footless sleepers- $8
4 blankets- $10 a piece
12 recieving blankets i used as burp clothes, 4 pack-$8-$10
baby nail clippers-$2
snot getter (that blue thing you suck snot out of noses with)-$1
Crib-$400
dresser-$250
change table-$250
towels-$10 for nice ones, $3 for regular towels (which i prefer)
baby hangers- 6 pack-$4
baby tub (if wanted)-$12-15
Stroller-$150-$350
portable travel crib-$150-$250
Carseat-$60-200, plus a forward facing seat at age 2 $100-$300, and finally a booster chair for older child, around $40-$80

The occasional purchases-
baby tylenol-$10
baby motrin-$10
mylicon-$10
baby lotion-$5
and other medications- orajel, teething tabs, teething rings, little noses, little tummies (and all medications w/the brand name Little _fill in the blank_)- ranging in price from $2-$10
toys during age appropriate times- anywhere from $5 to $40
Clothing purchased every other month or every 4 months during growth spurts-$150-$300

monthly purchases-
Diapers- 4-6 packs of diapers per month- $10-$15 a piece
Baby shampoo-$5 a bottle
Baby wash-$5 a bottle
Baby food- usually 50-60 cents per jar, when buying around 12-14 jars twice a month
baby cereal-$2-4 per box
baby juices-$5 for a 4 pack
baby snacks-$2-4 per box

Perscription medications when sick-
yearly around $50-$150

and omg there's just so much more when you consider trips needing extra things like smaller travel strollers, diaper bags, special snacks that are travel size or packaged better for travel, shoes when they start walking and it's cold (mine dont wear shoes in the summer unless we are at the park), replacement toys that get lost, replacement socks that get eaten in the dryer, LOL, birthday gifts, holidays, etc.
I don't even want to think about how much i've spent on my 4 children over the last 13 yrs! i just might pass out!

oh btw- i didn't include formula which might be around $150-$200 per month, because i breast fed mine...so should i have included my own nursing clothes? oh well.

How expensive is it to have a dog?

dumblover1

I am trying to convince my mother that I am a responsible enough to take care of a dog. Does any one know like are they a hassle, and are they that expensive?

Answer
Yes, dogs are a hassle and Yes they are quite expensive.

Cost of ownership for one year:
$50-150 for annual healthy vet check and vaccines
$300-960 for food ($25-80 per month (depending on size and energy requirements of dog) for a good quality dog food)
$5-30 for liscensing depending on your local liscensing fees and whether your dog is intact or not
$100-400 for heartworm and flea preventative (depending on size)

You're looking at $450-$1600 per year absolute bare minimum to take care of one healthy adult dog. The huge variance is because the cost of living in some areas is higher than others and food, heartworm, and flea preventative is going to vary drastically from tiny toy breeds to giant breeds. That doesn't include toys, emergency vet visits, chronic health problems, acute health problems, or treats. A dog with allergies for example could require an additional $10-100/month in medication depending on the severity of the allergies and the size of the dog. Emergency vet care (puppy accidentally swallowed your sock, ate a pill someone dropped on the floor, escaped from the back yard because someone left the gate open, etc) rarely costs less than $250 and often costs $800-2000.

It also doesn't include the original purchase price of the dog, which can vary from free (and free dogs frequently end up costing the most in vet bills) to thousands of dollars. Or spay/neuter, which can sometimes be included in the purchase price (such as a dog from rescue) or can cost an additional $80-200. Or puppy office exams and vaccines (which can be from $30-100 at 8, 12, and 16 weeks). Or the cost of training, which can vary widely in cost from fairly inexpensive or even free classes at your local shelter or animal welfare agency to $80-100 for a 6-8 week group class to thousands of dollars.

For most people, the hassle and financial expenses associated with owning a dog are a small price to pay for the pleasure that their dog brings them. But, if you are a child living at home, then you have to consider that when you go off to college or move out and start your own life you will most likely have to leave your dog at home because of college rules or struggling just to feed and care for yourself and your mom will be the one who then has to deal with the hassle and expense of owning "your" dog, at least for a few years. If your mom doesn't feel the same way about dogs as you do, then it is the dog that ultimately suffers as it will most likely become neglected or resented. Some parents when saddled with a dog they got "for the kids" will even go so far as to dump the poor dog at the pound as soon as the kids move out of the house.

We have 3 kids (8,8,5) and a 13 year old.

Answer
You could have a cocker spaniel or springer spaniel, they are both really energetic, fun and easy to train. My dad's friend has a Cocker spaniel and it is so adorable and very well behaved! I don't know if they shed or not, but very little if they do. These dogs will be amazing family pets, I can assure you!

I know these are a bit bigger, but I have a Labrador and he is the best dog ever. He puts up with me cuddling and kissing him, haha! He also wants to play with me all the time and loves chewing his rubber toys. And he is very cute! I would rate these dogs as no.1 on a family pets list. :)

You could have a labradoodle as they are also very friendly and cute! They also don't shed because they have the poodle gene. Or a cockerdoodle, my neighbour has one and he is so cute and well behaved! :)

All of these dogs are very family friendly and will give you lots of love, fun and they will cheer you up when you are feeling a bit blue. :)
They are also very energetic as my Labrador loves playing in the garden chasing after footballs!

Good luck! :)
