What's a good kid's toy laptop -- for a 7-8 yr. old?

bibliophil

I bought the Bratz one and it's way too easy -- annoying, also. We have an old Barbie one, so that's out. I have looked on Amazon at a couple v-tech ones, but many reviewers said that the screens were hard to see. Got any ideas or experience with these toys?

Answer
MY GRANDDAUGHTER HAS THE VTECH TOUCH TABLET LABTOP AND SHE LOVES IT. IT IS THE BLACK AND WHITE VERSION AND IS NOT HARD AT ALL TO SEE. THE COLOR ONES ARE DUE TO COME OUT SOME TIME THIS MONTH AT TOYS R US. IT HAS A WORD PROCESSOR IN IT THAT SAVES UP TO 3 FILES AND YOU CAN HOOK IT TO YOUR PRINTER TO PRINT THE FILES. IT IS REALLY GREAT. I AM GETTING THIS FOR MY OTHER TWO GRANDDAUGHTERS FOR CHRISTMAS. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU FIND THE PERFECT COMPUTER FOR YOUR DAUGHTER.IT IS 100.00 FOR B/W OR 130.00 FOR COLOR

I am 23 married with 2 kids. 8 yr old & 3yr old, both girls. My husband wants to try for a boy. 50/50 chance.?

Jazzy

am I to young to have 3 children? I wanna try but I know that I might not get a boy. I understand that sex doesn't matter. I would be happy with a girl. but the point is he says that he don't want them that far apart in age..also he is 30, he says he's getting old... ANY ADVICE

Answer
i had 3 kids by the time i was 25 so i dont think its that big of a deal as far as your age , its more about how stable is your marriage , if ur marriage is stable, if u can afford another child then go for it.. I can see where he's starting to feel like he's getting to old, because the older u get the more u slow down and even if u got pg tomorrow he'd be 31 more then likely by the time the child was born, and almost 50 when the child probably would leave the house.. so i can see him not wanting to wait to much longer.. but if ur not wanting a child right now then u should have a say as well but ur oldest child is 8 and a 9 year age spread between the oldest and youngest isnt very close and from my own expirence of having a little brother that is 9 years younger then me.. we've never been very close to much of an age difference, but fortunately u have the 3 year old but 4 to 5 years age spread is still going to have a similar result because for example, lets say u have a baby when ur youngest is 5, by the time ur baby is 5 and into Barney, Dora, whatever (preschool type stuff) your youngest now would be 10 and into 10 year old things and wont want to be bothered with "baby" toys or games.. and then once she's a teenager she definately wont want to be bothered by an 8 year old.. so they wouldnt be very close till probably their adult years.. i say if u want to have a baby.. if u love ur husband, and you can afford it.. go for it...

what can a 8 yr old boy do for a winter birthday?

frogger

my son will be 8 in dec and we never seem to have a good party planned out. we cant spend a lot of money considering i just had aother boy.....any ideas?

Answer
I have kids with late November and December birthdays, so I feel your pain! Try these ideas.... bowling, movies, arcade, batting cages or chuck e cheese. Bake your own cake, hand out capri sun for drinks and if you hand out gift bags, fill it with a small toy, candy (will go on sale after Halloween) or popcorn. You can also throw a gross happy "barfday" party at home. You can get disgusting recipes online, make a green punch and use gummy worms in the cake. Make boogers on a stick by heating up cheeze whiz, adding green food color and dipping pretzel sticks in it...let it cool in the fridge and right before the party set it on the table. You can have popcorn mixed with gummy worms, chocolate pudding (use your imagination), etc.....the kids love it and the parent marvel at how disgustingly creative you are. For prizes you can hand out fake vomit, squishy eyeballs or any age appropriate gag gift! Good luck!!

Does anyone have an 8-yr-old? I need ideas!?

Angelia

I provide home day care for babies and preschoolers. I agreed at the last minute to watch two children tommorow that are 5 and 8. I don't have much for the 8-yr-old to do. The only thing that I can think of is the Playstation! I don't even have movies that are appropriate for his age! My son is one! I need some ideas...The kids will be here for ten and a half hours!

Answer
The eight year old can color and build puzzles. He can play with cars. As far as movies, just turn the TV to PBS kids if it's before about 10 or 11 AM. Noggin has some stuff on in the daytime that he might like, if you get that channel. And there's always cartoon network.
Have him help you make a cake or a batch of cookies while the younger ones take a nap. See if he has any homework that his mother would like to see get done, and provide him with an area to work on it. Give him some old magazines, construction paper, posterboard, paints and found objects to make a collage with. Have him make a Christmas card for his mother. Give him an old shoebox and some cardboard and paints and googly eyes, and let him build a pet rock and a house for it.
You can also encourage his mother to have him bring a few toys, books and/or puzzles of his own to keep him amused.

Hey I am going to be babysitting 4 kids at the end of march for 4 days!!!!! Ahhh! So anyways there ages are 3, 10, 8, and a baby. What are some ways to keep them all entertained? The 3 yr old especially.

Answer
A. Set up a mini-bowling, the baby can just watch. B. Definitely be outdoors a lot. Kids love competitions, like running races, who can jump the most jumping-jacks in one minute, that kinda thing. You can use stickers and jolly ranchers as prizes. Try to get them to the park if possible, everyone loves that. C. When indoors, pick a movie that all are interested in. For example, most kids like Up or The Lion King. Do it up, with popcorn and fake movie tickets; that gives them an arts and craft to do. D. Arts and crafts are great! You can make drums by stapling paper plates together with pasta in them, you can make spring decorations such as flowers out of pipe cleaners or decorated paper easter eggs, and you can finger paint too. E. Finally, board games are good too. Most kids like Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, and the card game Go Fish. As for the baby, rattles and the aero-saucer (that round seat thing with the toys on the plastic ring surrounding it) are good. Hope this helps; good luck!

Are my kids too young to clean up after themselves?

#1 Mom

I'm a stay at home mom with 2 kids and one on the way. The housework is becoming way too overwhelming. I don't know if its because the pregnancy ( 8 mos) is exhausting me or what, but its getting so much harder to take care of all the housework on top of all the other things I have to take care of daily. I have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old and it seems like while I'm cleaning up, they are makig more messes. It's like the cleaning up never gets completely done. Are they too young for me to teach them to clean up after themselves.

Answer
Start now. Later makes it much worse!!! Your 1 year old is too young but your 3 year old should be able to put his/her toys and things away when done with them.
